Anyone watch this tonight?

Just catching up now, it's the same show as "Your Home Made Perfect" but you guessed it.. a garden makeover this time!

It will be on iplayer to catch up on!

OP posts:

I wonder what the garden was originally like? Was it raised to put such a deep pool in?

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/02/2021 20:59

Did I miss why they said they didn't do the original cladding from the design? I assumed it was the save money, but they were under budget, I think it would have looked better with that rather than the stark black walls.

They did say no cladding to save a bit of money.
But maybe they just meant that it didn't add anything for them.

jay55 · 25/02/2021 21:02

They can add some climbing plants in time to cover the walls.

Agree after a few glasses of wine it'll be lethal.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 25/02/2021 21:15

I think I prefer it without the cladding - less Jurassic theme park.
Not keen on those black railings. They really make it look like a zoo. Thought his wife was stunning.

Really liked the small garden again and they were a very cute couple. Glad they got a banana plant although IKEA have been selling them for decades so not particularly exotic in my mind.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 25/02/2021 21:17

I'm interested in next week's miniature Yard because that's what I have!
Teeny tiny spaces never get made over in these programmes. I've got a teeny tiny kitchen too.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/02/2021 21:21

I think a few garden mirrors would look good on the dark walls to reflect the planting scheme and waterfall. It would introduce the illusion of more landscaping (including expensive tree ferns) at little extra cost Grin
I know garden mirrors can be a danger to birds but hopefully they wouldn't present such an issue in the sunken pit.

I really liked the crazy paving patios in the crater. I'd have liked to have seen that across the entire upper level (blue floor). I wonder if it's on the cards? I think they said a family member did that bit for them. I hope they're going to tackle it when finances/time allows.

The blue upper floor and the decking steps looked super ugly and unfinished. Hopefully the steps will look better once stained.

I'm chuckling at the comments re. drinking injuries. Those steps looked like they'd get pretty slippery!

BunnyRuddington · 25/02/2021 21:21

This looks a lot better than last week.

That's such a low, low bar though.

NigellasMicrowave · 25/02/2021 21:27

I think it was a mistake not to spend the money on the cladding but also not to get a professional to pave it. The lack of cladding meant it felt half finished, for me, and the paving looked a bit shonky compared to the original design. I felt it brought the overall design right down.

Hey ho. They seemed happy.

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/02/2021 21:28

Anyone else freaked out by the empty pool??

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/02/2021 21:29

It's a bit annoying that the designs can only be achieved by substantially upping the budget. I feel they should design to the actual budget including all materials.

I don't mind them cutting corners a little bit regarding labour but it's frustrating to see key features disappear from the finished product, particularly last week.

Really all labour ought to be included in the budget too.

Maireas · 25/02/2021 21:45

Steep steps, rocks, fire pit and water feature.
Run around, kids!!

7Days · 25/02/2021 21:53

Feck I missed it this week.
The comments are making me really want to see it!
Am I right they bought a house with a pool and fenced it off to recreate a gorilla enclosure??! For like 30k

Katjolo · 25/02/2021 21:54

Gorilla enclosure- 🤣

refusetobeasheep · 25/02/2021 21:55

it's a good job it's their forever home ... seriously, who would buy this property? although access with a zimmer frame not looking great

SnugglySnerd · 25/02/2021 22:18

How on earth did they think that garden was child friendly?!

longtompot · 25/02/2021 23:20

I thought it was a shame they didn't clad the walls, esp as they were under budget. I much preferred the second garden, seemed much nicer with the water feature. I did not like where the fire pit was placed. One glass of wine too many and whoops!

Flaunch · 26/02/2021 08:38

If they could crane in all those boulders they could have removed all that concrete and made a much more usable space. I actually preferred the first design although I don’t think the graphic was as good and didn’t sell it. They would have had more space up top... who the hell wants to sit in a massive pit in their garden when you’ve got views like that.

LadyEloise · 26/02/2021 09:31

Gorilla enclosure !!!
Grin
It was a good effort though to try and rectify such a problematic strange garden space.

Why didn't they finish off the path on the upper level ?
It was left with its patchy paint.

Very odd layout from the house to the garden. Does it make the house really dark ?
Do you come out a passage and up steps ?

TitusPullo · 26/02/2021 20:16

Just caught up with this week’s, felt the women’s design was really disappointing and a bit half arsed. Glad they didn’t pick it. I think the man redeemed himself this week, yes it was a bit Jurassic Park/ zoo enclosure but it also looked intentional and less like a disused pool. I felt a bit sorry for the designer though that the couple cut corners and took key elements of the design out to save money. Especially paving around the pool, it looked cheap up there. Cladding it with stone would have made it even less pool like too. Looking forward to seeing the tiny garden and the accessible garden next week.

TitusPullo · 26/02/2021 20:18

@LadyEloise - the house/passage/steps set up was so odd! Who looks at that and thinks forever home? I don’t want to be elderly climbing those steps.

LenaBlack · 27/02/2021 11:52

I would have either fixed the pool or filled it in. They ended up with something weird and in between..definitely NOT child friendly

LadyEloise · 27/02/2021 12:12

I think I would have excavated it so the house and garden were on one level.
But them you wouldn't have the views.
Very very odd layout.
They seemed like a very nice couple.
She reminded me of a young Lorraine Chase if she had blonde hair.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 27/02/2021 12:38

I agree.

Maireas · 27/02/2021 12:58

I think the problem was the expense. The woman designer said just filling it in would use up all their budget. It was a very awkward problem, but save a massive budget, eg last week's £66k, it was always going to be problematic.
