It’s back!!! Now with extra added Alan Carr!!!

Starts tonight. I didn’t find the first series until well after it finished and binge watched it, enjoyed following the thread on here as I did so but I was way behind the time to contribute anything.

Looking forward to enjoying this series hopefully with some viper chatter as we go along. Come on in, all opinions welcome!

Charlotte's was horrific, I was back in the 80s and not in a cool, retro way. And like a pp said, the dust!?!

LadyEloise · 17/02/2021 10:32

I didn't like the striped material around the 4 poster, it looked out of place with the taffeta flounces.

RandomGrammarPun · 17/02/2021 10:51

Yeah, Charlotte's was the worst.

And all that stropping with the tradespeople again. I liked the idea of leaving a strip of wood around the floor but the outcome wasn't worth the man hours. There was nothing to the rest of what she did.

Siobhan's was lovely and I don't think it was maximalist, but it certainly wasn't minimalist either.

Tanned boy was very lucky to get away with not being on the sofa. His room was just Next Catalogue circa 2017. Nothing to it at all.

LadyEloise · 17/02/2021 11:32

I thought Jon's was the worst.

Imagine going to a wedding in a nice hotel and expecting a bit of calming luxury ( the dc are being minded by your parents for the weekend - a whole weekend off for you both, bliss ) and on entering your bedroom you are greeted with that !!!

It was like an explosion in a Paperchase shop.

HaveringWavering · 17/02/2021 11:36

I think Micaela is out of her depth and should have gone. Jim made a mistake but he had so much more to give.
Charlotte’s bed was horrific, she was lucky to stay.

I don’t understand why the trades didn’t just get a hold of a floor sanding machine!

HaveringWavering · 17/02/2021 11:38

Charlotte’s bed reminded me of Lady Di’s wedding dress.

Sennedd · 17/02/2021 11:49

Has Charlotte never learned to say please or thank you? I don’t like the way she speaks to the tradespeople at all.

Sennedd · 17/02/2021 11:59

I retract that comment. Having just read Charlotte’s blog, I think she has been the victim of some unkind editing. Sorry.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 17/02/2021 14:43

The stroppy girl's room looked like Princess Di's wedding dress. Dreadful

It was all the things that should've stayed in the 80's. The colour scheme was so dull too.

The upholsterer need to go before john. One trick pony who can't see the whole room.

If John had left the bloody ceiling alone and had the animal wallpaper above the panelling instead, and took that hideous fabric panel above the windows down, it would have looked ok.

Orange boy's bedside tables were ridiculous. He should've waited until the bed was in before sticking to walls. Imagine trying to get your phone or glass of water off one in the night.

Cocolapew · 17/02/2021 14:59

The swags on the bed on Charlotte's mood board look much better than hers. The paint on the mirrors Shock

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/02/2021 15:16

Am I the only one who actually quite liked Charlottes room!? Grin I think if I was a bride at a hotel of that grandeur, I'd want something like that, rather than a room with a picket fence headboard.. or god forbid the green and black chevron room!

I think it would have been better to not include the striped fabric alongside the swags.. but after looking at her blog, I even like her custom made pelmet!

I also think she was possibly the only one who actually seemed to think about the style of the hotel and even did research into the history, which I think showed, but it is a massive shame that her budget was the same as the others who had much smaller rooms to deal with. Clearly that played a part in how much she could / couldn't do with it.

I think she has been dealt a bad hand with the editing, but I do like her designs, I especially liked the ceiling roses and light.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/02/2021 15:18

Also, I would LOVE an after show for this where they film the reactions to the rooms from the actual hotel owners Grin

I thought it was interesting at the end of Charlottes blog that the hotel owners have decided to take inspiration from her styling for around other areas of the hotel and including it in photo shoots, so obviously they felt it was in keeping and what they wanted.

My husband pointed out last night that we were not seeing any reactions from clients in this series and I suddenly thought, did they not show the clients in Season 1? I am sure I remember scenes where Michelle would hate something but the client would like it, or the clients were shown communicating their brief? Or was that only in the Sophie Robinson and Tom Dykholm Great Interior Design Challenge predecessor show?

I think there might have been one or two episodes that they did show the clients but only briefly - I think it was shops / restaurants, I think the clients went through the brief with the designers but I don't think they actually really showed their reactions afterwards, which was a bit frustrating. I could be wrong, although I remember doing some Instagram stalking after to see which businesses had kept the designs after Grin

LadyEloise · 17/02/2021 16:32

I far preferred the Sophie and Tom programme.

dillite · 17/02/2021 16:39

They definitely showed the client reactions and client briefs in previous seasons. Sometimes you could see them absolutely hating the rooms. We even had one of the posters on here whose house was shown on the show. I think, if I remember correctly, the end result was super orange.

HaveringWavering · 17/02/2021 16:43

There has only been one previous season of this though @dillite. Are you sure you’re not thinking of the Sophie Robinson programme?

Cocolapew · 17/02/2021 16:51

The was the Sophie Robinson show its on Netflix now

Cocolapew · 17/02/2021 16:51

I mean the old ones it's not been remade, unfortunately.

absolutetelynotfabulous · 17/02/2021 17:19

@dillitte yes, that was the Great Interior Design Challenge? Tom Dyckhoff, Sophie Robinson and Daniel Wassisname with the braces. There was a poster whose house featured and there was lots of orange.

That programme was waaay superior to this one IMHO. Lots of architectural background and history for context.

longtompot · 17/02/2021 18:13

I seem to remember in the previous series of this they did have the clients having a look and liking and disliking different things to the judges. I especially remembered the restaurants in Bristol as having differing views.

I think Michaela should have gone, but I think if she is on the sofa again next week she'll be going. I think the crazy room designer was right to go. He should have known when to stop, and saying he hoped it would all go together says he didn't really do a mood board.
I liked the other guys room and don't think he should have gone for not papering up to the ceiling. I think it might have worked the other way round (dark ceiling down to picture rail and a lighter paint or paper on the walls) I've seen that work well in other designs.
Charlottes swags were awful. Made me thing of the winner of the previous shows hotel room with the antique old fabrics for swags. I could almost smell them through my screen.
I quite liked the other rooms too, even the picket fence one.

dillite · 17/02/2021 18:41

@haveringWavering, I mean the old version ofnthe show with Sophie and Tom. There have been 2 or 3 seasons? I remember watching them all.

HaveringWavering · 17/02/2021 18:46

Yes, but it was a different programme.

AndreaMarteau · 17/02/2021 18:50

I might have missed it, but does anyone know if they have differing budgets depending on the room size? Charlotte's room was huge and surely would have cost more to decorate than Peter's?

dillite · 17/02/2021 19:23

I didn't realise it was a different programme! I thought that they just replaced the judges and the presenter as everything else has remained the same 🙈🙈🙈 my bad!
