I remember Sophie and Mel's death on Hollyoaks in 2006 the earliest.

It's between Rainbow 🌈 and Charles and Diana's wedding

Chipsandchesses · 09/01/2021 23:19

Oh I remember Josie Smith ! My P4/5 teacher read that to us a lot . She had a wee friend called Eileen that cried all the time .

I remember a book about her going into hospital to get tonsils removed, and having to eat lots of blancmange ... which seemed a wonderfully vintage idea to me (reading it age 8/9 in 2000) .

I’d forgotten about that - thank you ! Lovely memories of sitting listening to my teacher !

Mary, Mungo and Midge.

I wanted to live in a high rise with a lift and a lift button.

Chipsandchesses · 09/01/2021 23:37

@worried890

I can’t believe someone else remembers it Smile glad it made you happy!!

GattinaGattona · 09/01/2021 23:41

The shoe people, the raggy dolls, rainbow, the raccoons, the Poddington peas, button moon, ceefax, teletext, the bbc test card with that beeeeeeeeep...

GattinaGattona · 09/01/2021 23:43

Actually I think chock-a-block was before all that

Diorissimo1985 · 10/01/2021 03:40

@worried890 @Chipsandchesses I read those books! Didn’t know it was made in to telly too, am pleased 😄 wonder if it’s on YouTube.
I loved Josie Smith - her mum was a seamstress I think? And her friend Eileen was a bit spoilt.

avamiah · 10/01/2021 03:44

@Ginfordinner ahh ok cool. I'm only 13 years younger than you but always had a tv in the home since I was born, but until mid 80's it was a b&w dial tune wooden box job with for as long as I could remember a wire coat hanger for an aerial Grin

I well remember watching Charles and Di's wedding on a neighbours large colour tv though. We had a street party and the telly was wheeled out and if I recall was plugged in via at least 3 extension cables Grin every time one of us kids bumped the tv or the aerial (a real aerial but still on top of the tv) causing the signal to buzz we'd get screamed at "don't play near the telly!!"

But we were all hopped up on vol au vents, cocktail sausages and pineapple hedgehog treats! Grin it may have been 1981 our mothers were still firmly in the 70's in terms of party catering! There was even a blancmange rabbit!

tobee · 10/01/2021 04:23

Yes Andy Pandy. And Noggin the Nog.

tobee · 10/01/2021 04:24

@Lurleene

I used to love a show called Barnaby. I can vividly remember being in my back garden playing with my next door neighbour when my Mum called me in to watch it. He said he would go and watch it on his telly too. I was amazed that Barbaby could be in more than on telly at once. BLEW MY MIND Smile

Omg! Yes Barnaby! I absolutely adored Barnaby

tobee · 10/01/2021 04:30

I also remember Teddy Edward. But he was a bit later. 1973 so I was 5. His rabbit friend was Jasmine who I named my teddy bear after. Except when he was a boy and called Ted Heath Confused

bushtailadventures · 10/01/2021 04:30

Rainbow, early '70's I suppose. I have fond memories of lunchtimes at my Grans house, eating tomato soup and watching it.

NiceGerbil · 10/01/2021 04:33

Noggin the nog or the magic roundabout.

Probably, I have a poor memory though!

tobee · 10/01/2021 05:17

Does anyone remember that Czech cartoon about the little Mole? From the early seventies? I think he used to cry a lot. It made me cry too! Lol

PinkyParrot · 10/01/2021 06:39

Watch with Mother. I think it was on at 10am, I think it was late 50s.
Andy Pandy and Teddy, The Woodentops, always disappointed on a Wednesday as it was Tales of the Riverbank.

Clawdy · 10/01/2021 08:34

Yes, Watch With Mother! Also had Rag, Tag, And Bobtail, and Picture Book, which was a posh lady reading a story!

caringcarer · 10/01/2021 12:00

Andy Pandy with Spotty Dog. I remember when my Aunty hot a colour TV set s year before we got one and I was allowed to go to her house to watch it sometimes. I remember going on and on at my parents to get us one.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 10/01/2021 13:35

Play Away. Blue Peter (John Noakes, Lesley Judd, Peter Purves era) Pipkins. The Sullivans

My all time favourite, though, was Ivor the Engine ❤

itssquidstella · 10/01/2021 13:36

Either the fall of the Berlin Wall on the news (I was four and had come downstairs because I couldn't sleep), Sesame Street or John Leslie (I think) doing a parachute jump on Blue Peter.

kursaalflyer · 10/01/2021 13:57

Late 50s my mum was wiggling the aerial and Noddy flashed on the screen for a few seconds. I was so disappointed because both Noddy and Big Ears had hats that were grey and black! Nothing like in my books! The first news coverage I remember was grainy Berlin Wall footage with soldiers and barbed wire across the street so that was 61 or 62 I think. Great thread!

kursaalflyer · 10/01/2021 13:58

Lol just seen your post @itssquidstella! There's a generation gap for you! Grin

BayandBlonde · 10/01/2021 14:01

Can't remember exactly but a programme I do remember is Button Moon around '81
