Anyone else enjoying this - it's got a real Dectectorists feels ( thank you Mackenzie Crook) I wonder if a lot of the same people worked on it.

Yes. Watched the two part series last Christmas so lovely to see they've produced more. Think the first lot are on iPlayer

Rockpooler · 24/12/2020 18:31

Good to know. The composer must be the same person that did Detectorists. Great gentle life affirming programme if you've not seen.

I so love this. Gentle and soothing.

PeskyRooks · 24/12/2020 19:50

I loved today's one saucy Nancy I aspire to be like that old woman living in a boat. Yesterday's one (which was a repeat) was hilarious it was the one with the troublemakers the narrow headed ring leader was brilliant. All the acting is brilliant and the kids aren't annoying which makes a change.

PeskyRooks · 24/12/2020 19:51

Trubble makers!
Marrow headed
Stop changing my spelling!!

Meredusoleil · 24/12/2020 19:52

I really enjoyed it tonight. Used to watch the series when it was on TV years ago! Also watched Catweazel.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 24/12/2020 19:56

Such a joy to watch, especially this year. It always makes we wish I had grown up in the country.

redfernsydney · 24/12/2020 19:57

the unthanks do the music ....They did for the detectorists as well. brilliant

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/12/2020 20:16

It was beautiful. So innocent (the grim drinkers in The Ship who turned out to be lovely) and positive. MacKenzie Crooke must be such a lovely person. The music from the Unthanks was wonderful too.

Whiskyinajar · 24/12/2020 20:21

Absolutely magical just as it was last year.

BreadSaucery · 24/12/2020 20:34

Just perfect. The cinematography is wonderful.
Everything written to the last detail, even Nancy’s movements (imagine her on the prow of a ship, even when on land).
We were like, “ooh, can’t wait to see Brian Blessed in this!” and then when Longshanks appeared with his voice Grin

Camenon · 24/12/2020 20:46

I sat with DH and watched it in silence, very unusual for him, just like last Christmas. A bit of magical, much needed escapism.

Were those holes in the girls tights? I kept imagining the suntan pattern.

Mrsmadevans · 24/12/2020 20:54

I loved it too Xmas Smile

BreadSaucery · 24/12/2020 20:54

I laughed at that, along with the warning about wearing sun cream when they had the internal heating system of teenagers everywhere and just kept their hoodies on Grin

Wallabyone · 24/12/2020 21:13

We loved it-loved last year's too, so your were delighted that they made a new one. I find them (and The Detectorists) just so soothing and lovely to watch.

I kept saying the same thing. I think they were leggings. But she did have shorts on top so 🤷🏻‍♀️
Honeyroar · 24/12/2020 21:31

I started watching it but had to go out. It looked lovely- I must find it on iPlayer.

PhoebeSnow · 24/12/2020 21:44

Loved it; gentle and sweet. I enjoyed the last ones as well.

Very Catweazel wasn’t it? I hope they don’t remake that series though because it was prefect, from the casting to the music.
Rainydays200 · 24/12/2020 22:54

Loved last year’s episodes, but was totally creeped out by the woman who played Saucy Nancy. The same actress, doing the same voice played the creepy/scary mother of daughter who gave her baby up to a rich couple in a bbc drama earlier this year. Anyone know what I mean? Totally creeped me out unfortunately

aka Moaning Myrtle.

PopsicleHustler · 25/12/2020 06:39

Thought the previous episode was better than last nights. Also the girl character leggings are rather inappropriate. My Dh and I couldn't believe it.

Aka creepy woman in Happy Valley whose name I forget. She's a very good actress.

In the books I think the children were evacuees - urban children who were different to the locals, felt totally out of place and knew nothing about the countryside. It was a good idea to change this to Foster children for the 21st century and I think they are dressed this way to exagerrate their difference.
