Is anyone watching Bringing Up Baby tonight or are we all a bit tired of being outraged?

I have only seen the first one so thought I might watch it, but is anyone else going to?

Well, there you have it! In summing up all babies are different and do what you think is best. Swearing at telly AGAIN for putting little lives through that . Want to see what parents feel about the editing on a live show with mentors and an audience so that CV can finally get it into her head she and her methods is not liked!!

rachaelsara · 16/10/2007 22:05

Be funny to see what the babies can do with knives in 16yrs time! Bet I can guess which ones will be caring members of society.

We sometinmes have four dd's in bed with us!

screamsprout · 16/10/2007 22:05

Roo-tine is the way forward. Ds is still b/fed (will be 3 next week) but stuff all that, it's too much like hard work, I'm going to lock this one up and party!!!!

sometimes!

screamsprout · 16/10/2007 22:06

Re teething - I bet the rootine families get through the most Medised.

I think that maybe the cv people are missing out on skills to settle their babies?
the woman looked terrified when they were crying and out of routine. Everyone else instinctively would know what to do with a crying baby, but if you are just told to let them cry, how can you lcope when things go pear shaped?

fondant4000 · 16/10/2007 22:07

That's the thing isn't it. This routine thing only applies to that alien creature - the baby.

Then when the 'maternity nurse' has left and the babies turn into expressive moving toddlers there is no ongoing philosophy to deal with the next stage. Unless you stick 'em in the garden till they're 16

Tamum · 16/10/2007 22:07

Go beansprout

DulwichDolly · 16/10/2007 22:08

i haven't learnt anything that i didn't know!
Thanks for nothing Silver River and Channel 4!

Another shit programme trying to create controversy amongts mum....

Between you and me I really disliked the smug couple who did boast about having a party.... and so fucking what,... idiots!!!

rachaelsara · 16/10/2007 22:08

And phenergan (sp?) for teeth, and put em at the bottom of the garden, that's why they've moved!

screamsprout · 16/10/2007 22:08

Might 'ave me tits done too.

my 3 week one is in rotuine, but sort of forced on us by mw's. As she was so little we were told to not let her go any longer than 4 hours, so i woke her.
Now she feeds 4 hourly in the day, and goes 5-6 hours at night. But have to add I havent had to force feed her, leave her to cry or put her outside

divamum2two · 16/10/2007 22:10

agree fondant till 10 weeks they are baby, what happens when they sick(winter coming)poorlym cold cough, do you still not check them and ~party
all rubbish

bunnyhunny · 16/10/2007 22:11

aitch - you are so right. they should follow up every 6 months or so, like that child of our time thing.

Poohbah · 16/10/2007 22:11

Routine means different things to different pepole. I would say that we did Contin. Concept but the baby falls into a natural routine.

Elizabetth · 16/10/2007 22:12

The measures they used for judging the success of the different methods were a bit strange, maybe reflecting what's important to meeja types rather than anything to do with child development.

After all shagging, partying and getting a good night's sleep after a glass of wine or two whilst your babies are locked in the room aren't normally what experts or parents for that matter look for to see if your children are thriving.

bunnyhunny · 16/10/2007 22:12

sorry that was screamsprout who suggested a follow up

divamum2two · 16/10/2007 22:13

cant believe cv families were boasting about party, getting their life back, and having loads sex

rachaelsara · 16/10/2007 22:14

If you taught the rooo teeen kids to use a knife, they could cater for the parties! Ideal.

Elizabetth · 16/10/2007 22:16

The knife-wielding ninja toddlers were the highlight of this series.

glucose · 16/10/2007 22:17

cv families reflect the many people i meet and wonder why did you want children in the first place?
None of us have to be perfect parents, but probably should expect our lives to change a wee bit

someone said your life doesn't go BACK to normal, rather it moves forward to a new normal (but they said it in a much snappier way).
so true

Spiderhammer · 16/10/2007 22:19

I'd like to revisit the children every two years and see how they are doing.

Reallytired · 16/10/2007 22:22

I thought the continuum todlers were great. What was a pity was the programme did not show other "interesting" aspects of continium concept parenting like allowing the child to self wean.

Ie. Weaning is baby led. The baby doesn't start solids until it can physically pick up the food and feed itself. Food is not pureed and the child starts with finger food.

Also many continuum concept children are breastfed until they decided they no longer want breastmilk. Some of the rl continium concept parents I know still cosleep with all the children in a family bed. They just put two large mattresses on the floor so that everyone in the family has enough room. If the parents want sex then there are plenty of other places than the martial bed. They just have to be a bit more adventurous. One RL friend has 8 children so the continium concept hasn't stopped her!

I have been in a room with RL continium concept parents and its NOT scary. Although a continuum todler might use a knife, they are 100% supervised.

I only followed part of the attachment parenting philosophy. I don't think there are many people who do everything recommended.
