(I didn’t see another thread)

Is anyone else watching?

The men in the balloon should definitely be significant soon!

GrishainDisguise · 17/12/2020 20:09

I hope it is not my favourite scene with Lee yet.

For those not familiar with the books there are three:

  • Northern Lights which follows the events of series 1 but only in Lyra's world, there is no Will in that book. The producers for the TV series flashed out his background a bit more and showed some of Will's story from book 2 alongside Lyra's story in book 1.
  • The Subtle Knife which series 2 is based on. In the book we meet Will for the first time and see him meet and befriend Lyra.
  • The Amber Spyglass which series 3 will be based on.

On Snapchat there is a thing where you can open a portal and go through to Cittagaze. I have no idea how you find it on Snapchat, I don't use it, dd just showed me.

Small warning that tonights episode is on at 7.10pm tonight, i'd hate for anyone to miss it due to the time change.

CountFosco · 20/12/2020 08:08

Thanks for that, will plan my day accordingly!

AaronPurr · 20/12/2020 18:57

10 minutes to go until the final. Smile

Belepheron · 20/12/2020 19:58

Oh my god give the actor playing Will a BAFTE. What an outstanding production. If they don't finish the series in the same quality I shall be so gutted.

AaronPurr · 20/12/2020 20:01

That was incredible. It's such a shame they haven't started series 3 yet, it's going to be a long wait.

Also Marisa Coulter should offer parenting lessons, keep your child locked in a trunk she's a natural. Wink

Igneococcus · 20/12/2020 20:02

I assume the BBC announcer guy had no idea what was going to come.

IPokeBadgers · 20/12/2020 20:05

I have enjoyed the TV adaptation but I just couldn't get on with the books... Might have to give them another go as there will be quite a while before series 3.

Will admit I cried at tonight's episode though.....

Does anyone else just not feel smart enough to understand all the different concepts that are at play... Or is it just me?

longtompot · 20/12/2020 20:18

@scissy

I'll be honest as a TV viewer only I also don't see the point of the two in the balloon. Unless he does something soon I honestly don't get what he adds to the story. I guess that's a difference between books and TV though as the books have more time to get your invested in all the characters.
They had much bigger parts in the books. I was dreading this episode, just for the scene with Lee and Hester Sad

Some of it I just can't remember. I keep trying to reread the books, but I only read a bit of Northern Lights and then put it down. Must make sure I do before the last series is shown.

Thimbleberries · 20/12/2020 20:19

Yes the BBC guy was a bit off the mark with the 'happy ending' comment. It wasn't really an ending at all, just a break waiting for Series 3!!

I still don't know what Mrs C is really about, whether she cares for Lyra or not, what the relationship with her daemon is, etc.

Not sure i like Will's dad that much, don't quite understand why he couldn't get home ever, when he knew about all the windows etc. And is he dead?

I can't tell all the male characters apart and it took me ages to work out that the voice at the end, and then the person, was Asriel

I don't feel smart enough either; I found that with the books too, couldn't really get my head around things in the third book for sure, so not sure how I'll find the next series

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/12/2020 20:21

Oh god I blubbed uncontrollably when Hester dissolved into the ether.

AaronPurr · 20/12/2020 20:24

Same here, but it didn't hit me as much as I expected, I was a blubbering mess when I first read the scene in the book. Dreading the ending of series 3 whenever that happens But won't say any more as I know a lot haven't read the books

JayAlfredPrufrock · 20/12/2020 20:27

Lee and Hester’s death broke my heart in the book.

Calyx72 · 20/12/2020 20:27

Blubbing mess over here too. SOB!
I loved this series. Hope there's another and soon!

KarenMarlow3 · 20/12/2020 20:31

No, not just you!

Newgirls · 20/12/2020 20:33

I find the Lyra actress too young and her face never changes - I think poor direction rather than the young actress. Will is good to watch. Way too slow compared to the books. Also now find the easy dispatches of the witches depressing - seem quite disposable. Mrs coulter looks great a bit like her monkey.

trickyex · 20/12/2020 20:35

I havent read the books but loved watching the series.
Can someone explain why Mrs C's daemon doesnt speak?

ludothedog · 20/12/2020 20:41

So many questions! Off to read the book now. Guessing Will's father died as his demon went poof.

So is Azriel a good guy then? And Rodger still alive? Or is Lyra just dreaming about him?

So many questions about Mrs Coultar.

ShowOfHands · 20/12/2020 20:42

@trickyex

I think it's supposed to be symbolic of her repression. She holds everything inside. I suppose it's also the part of her which makes her human and she's almost inhuman so he is quite primitive in some ways (I say he, the monkey in the series is female).
Igneococcus · 20/12/2020 20:44

I think Lyra's actress is too old. She should be at the cusp of puberty. I like her, but book Lyra is younger than Dafne.

ShowOfHands · 20/12/2020 20:44

I think the overarching takeaway is that there is no good or bad and trying to rigidly control the concepts leads to the terrible.

Will's Dad is definitely dead. Didn't he heal Will's fingers and stop the bleeding in the books? Or was that someone else?

AaronPurr · 20/12/2020 20:48

Yes he healed them. I also thought a witch killed him in the books.
