I'm in the mood for an old school detective show and would appreciate some recommendations. Old or new.

TIA

Shetland. Gorgeous craggy sweeping landscapes and Douglas Henshall wearing expensive jumpers.

dudsville · 10/10/2020 22:49

Judge John Deed!

@bathtimebubblebath

Strike is bloody brilliant. Modern day but has an old school detective feel to it. It's on BBC.
Agreed! Strike is great.

Luther.

Fairymaryprincess · 10/10/2020 23:15

Scott and Bailey, line of duty, happy Valley, Vera, midsummer murders and no offence - its more of a comical police drama but is good to watch.

hettie555 · 11/10/2020 00:13

Line of Duty
Luther
Sherlock
Vera (added points because I fancied her 2 male sidekicks)

shitinmyhandsandclap · 11/10/2020 06:22

We've watched loads since the start of covid

A touch of frost
Unforgotten
Shetland
Happy Valley
Whitechapel
Broadchurch 1 and 3
Scott & Bailey

duvetaddict · 11/10/2020 06:32

Line of duty
Scott and bailey
2 of my favourites

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/10/2020 06:37

Morse

BasiliskStare · 11/10/2020 06:47

@Tollenstripes and @LemonandLavender

  1. Foyle's War
  2. Foyle's War

then Morse / Lewis / Endeavour / Poirot at will & Grantchester when you run out of options

Ah , most of the suggestions above are great - you won't go far wrong with any of them but I could not be doing with Broadchurch or Happy Valley though DH liked them

Magicbabywaves · 11/10/2020 06:50

Case Histories.

Magicbabywaves · 11/10/2020 06:57

I also liked Rosemary and Thyme and theShakespeare one one on BBC1. Blush

I’m not into most of the shows mentioned but I just could not stop watching ‘Line of Duty’. Incredibly absorbing and completely addictive.

nearlynermal · 11/10/2020 07:14

Life on Mars!!!

Ginfordinner · 11/10/2020 08:45

I agree that Line of Duty is the best. We recently binged watched them again, and enjoyed them even more than the first time around.

JamminDoughnuts · 11/10/2020 08:48

Life on Mars
Line of Duty
Morse

nearlynermal · 11/10/2020 09:17

Endeavour also fab

LizzieMacQueen · 11/10/2020 12:10

I'm going against the grain - much as I like the characters in Strike, really thought they are well rounded, I thought the plots were a bit too ..... 'paint by numbers'. Maybe the books were better. It's JK Rowling by the way.

MsStillwell · 11/10/2020 12:42

I enjoyed both River and No Offence. Neither have been recommissioned :(

carben · 11/10/2020 12:53

The Fall

TartanSlippers · 11/10/2020 12:58

If you don't mind gritty - The Sweeney.
Gritty but daft - The Professionals.
Just daft - The New Avengers.
