I'm in the mood for an old school detective show and would appreciate some recommendations. Old or new.

Strike is bloody brilliant. Modern day but has an old school detective feel to it. It's on BBC.

Scott and Bailey, line of duty, happy Valley, Vera, midsummer murders and no offence - its more of a comical police drama but is good to watch.

Ah , most of the suggestions above are great - you won't go far wrong with any of them but I could not be doing with Broadchurch or Happy Valley though DH liked them

I also liked Rosemary and Thyme and theShakespeare one one on BBC1.

I’m not into most of the shows mentioned but I just could not stop watching ‘Line of Duty’. Incredibly absorbing and completely addictive.

I agree that Line of Duty is the best. We recently binged watched them again, and enjoyed them even more than the first time around.

I'm going against the grain - much as I like the characters in Strike, really thought they are well rounded, I thought the plots were a bit too ..... 'paint by numbers'. Maybe the books were better. It's JK Rowling by the way.

I enjoyed both River and No Offence. Neither have been recommissioned :(
