It’s beyond normal people comprehension, that someone could pull a dead body from their floor boards, out then in an arm chair and then leave them there. Before going to work and doing a normal job, only to return back home and talk to the dead body like its normal...
He obviously didn’t think that the landlord would just pop over to check on the property, but I don’t know how the smell didn’t reach the flats even two floors below if the floor below was vacant...
It was also easier to move about back then without detection, most things were paid in cash, no mobiles phones and no cctv.

'Before going to work and doing a normal job, only to return back home and talk to the dead body like its normal...'

I find it really sad, and really pathetic, as well as sickening and horrifying and totally appalling

I watched this at the weekend and, apart from the scene at the start with the drain where I had to stop watching because I'd just had lunch, I thought they managed to convey the horor and Nilson's psychopathy very well.

Tennant did a pretty good job of the accent I thought - and the mannerisms
RaraRachael · 21/09/2020 22:02

I was a bit underwhelmed as I'd been looking forward to the programme for ages but after watching the documentary about Nilsen, I realise what an amazing job David Tennant did. At some points I had to ask my OH if it was Tennant or Nilsen - the voice and mannerisms were uncanny.

Shortfeet · 21/09/2020 23:34

I’m in episode 2 and not engaged at all .
David Tennant is great but all the usual “ all right sarge “ stuff is so tedious.

Oblomov20 · 22/09/2020 02:58

Dh also recorded The Documentary about him that was shown last week, so we've just started watching that.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 22/09/2020 07:09

The documentary was better than the dramatisation I thought. Some of the language in court was inaccurate and that irritated me. I think DT portrayed him brilliantly just that the series wasn't as insightful as I would have hoped.

Yes it was. And I was really irritated at the press briefing when one of the reporters asked what gender the victims were. No one said gender in the 80s - we said sex.

I'm watching it. I saw it many years ago. After Dominic West played Fred West it forever diminished some of his hotness for me.

I didnt sleep a wink after watching the second episode of Appropriate Adult. So incredibly creepy, got right under my skin

That's right - totally manipulated her into thinking they had some sort of connection. Terrifying

GnomeDePlume · 24/09/2020 22:39

It did seem that Neilson wanted to be in control. It seems that also he wanted to be something special.

Ian Brady, Peter Tobin, Robert Black and others all used information to keep control. Peter Tobin was almost certainly responsible for more murders than he was convicted of. The only thing that makes me doubt that Peter Tobin was Bible John is the way the bodies of the victims were disposed of. Peter Tobin hid the bodies of his victims, Bible John didnt.

colouringindoors · 24/09/2020 23:16

Finally watching this. Ep 2 now.

(Who is Karl?)

Another one who's had a dead mouse under the sofa that stank. Cannot begin to understand how he had multiple bodies stored in his flat.

What made DN the man that committed these crimes? Nuture & Nature? "Seeing my grandfather in that box, all my troubles started there..."

And f**k I'm glad i didn't eat anything he cooked. Based on the clear love of control DN had, I cannot believe they contained no human remains 🤮

colouringindoors · 24/09/2020 23:33

Also Loved the "Unremarkable" Grin

colouringindoors · 25/09/2020 00:34

So apparently Brian Masters visited Nilsen for 10 years in prison.

Why?!

OneofPansPeople · 25/09/2020 12:54

Potentially material for further book?

ageingdisgracefully · 25/09/2020 12:58

@colouringindoors Carl Stottor, one of the victims who survived. He gave evidence.

WitchesNStuff · 26/09/2020 08:28

Just finished watching and now watching the documentary. DT sounds/looks so much like him.

DH and I were chatting about the insanity plea, there is no way DN was sane however we said potentially because of his calmness and the fact he was unlikely to be a danger to anyone perhaps there was no need for him to be in a psychiatric facility and no one was going to fight for him to only be charged fro manslaughter. I know it doesn't really work like that in court but in reality there cannot be any serial killer who is actually sane.

I also watched Appropriate Adult. That was so disturbing, the leads were so 'real' I almost forgot it wasnt actually them.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/10/2020 22:37

Just finished this - if David Tennant doesn't win a bafta I'll eat my hat. Utterly brilliant. Like the police chappy too

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/10/2020 22:43

Also I've never smoked in my life but watching Des actually made me want to take up smoking 🤣🤣 every flipping scene! I was born around the time this was set, but remember in childhood that smoking was everywhere
