@AndNoneForGretchenWieners

I knew the pirate question and a fair few of the earlier ones, but would have got the religion one wrong (I thought Hannukah) and I wasn't sure about the 500k question. Fair play to the bloke, he seemed like a decent sort.
I didn't know the pirate one but have heard quite a few people say they did which kind of makes me wonder if they wanted to £m to be won in a lockdown episode for a feel good moment.

I've been watching since it started and I'm sure I haven't got any cleverer but the questions are way easier nowadays and are very samey if you watch a few shows back to back. If the £m question is on the school curriculum it's giving regular folks a good chance of knowing it.

@Deathraystare

I love quiz shows and am quite good at them (because I am not on tv with the lights and everything, but saw catchphrase - now I rarely get that!
Oh I bloody love Catchphrase! I think I'd be better at that than Millionaire tbh 😂

@lifesalongsong I watch the classic ones on Sony while up feeding the baby at night! I agree generally the questions are easier but someone won a million by knowing Eleanor of Aquitaine was married to Henry II which it thought was far more mainstream knowledge! I thought Blackbeard was far harder

bobbikato · 14/09/2020 12:42

AIBU this was a fix .I knew every answer 100% .
No Football questions,No TV Soaps,No PC games of 2019 ,No Craig David tracks.
Every answer is in your Ladybird 1978 book of knowledge .

Well he was a lovely man and a deserved winner

However. He's also a history and politics teacher - these questions were made for him! Where were the pop culture questions that he just wouldn't have known?

The irony is, he said so himself, words to the effect of 'no trivia questions came up'. He did make it all look easier than it probably was in reality. I'm pleased for him!

I don’t care if the questions were “made for him”- I think he seemed very clever and so sweet!

I feel a bit mean saying it but I thought that too, nothing against him as he didn't choose the questions but as I said above if you're a long standing regular viewer it was noticeable that the questions were different to the expected type/spread of topics and has been pointed out above even he thought they were too easy.

The producers could have been fairly sure he would get through to the chair and the human interest aspect of his brothers win makes for good publicity for the show

Puppy72 · 14/09/2020 15:07

It was a bit strange there wasn't any general trivia questions, but I wholeheartedly don't believe it was a fix.. Just luck of the drawer. Are the questions randomly generated anyway?.

FelicityFisher · 14/09/2020 16:11

Oh I'm not implying a fix and tbh I couldn't get worked up about it even if it was! But usually there are those pop culture questions and all of his questions were certainly stuff that any half decent pub quizzer would know

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 15/09/2020 08:26

i dont spose itv has that sort of money to give away every day.

I don't believe ITV pays the prize money, I'd imagine there's a some kind of sharing of advertising and phone call revenue. WWTBAM has been going for over 20 years, no one's losing any money on it

ITV have no control over who does or doesn't win anyway it's made by an independant company

ClashCityRocker · 15/09/2020 12:46

I do think the questions fell lucky, but that's just the way of it sometimes. I suspect you do need a bit of luck to reach the top. I wouldn't have got the whale one, certainly.

There's a few I was pretty sure I knew the answer but don't know if I'd have been confident enough if I was in his position and I think that makes a difference too. Although he seemed very certain of all his answers!

There was one on earlier this series (or maybe last - all blurs into one!) where the contestant was an orchestra conductor or an opera singer or something of that ilk; very intelligent and was going great guns until a question came up on the Spice Girls.

In his shoes I'd have definitely asked the host on the million question even if I knew it!

Timinfuckingruislip · 15/09/2020 20:40

I thought it was lovely and @quicknamechanger2020 you must be so proud!
Also very sweet to see JC holding off the tears right at the end as well.
