I can't believe I knew the Big Ben one!

I was ok with the mans questions who were on before him. Ds2 makes me laugh as he isn't good with the easier ones at all ! A lot of proverbs and sayings go over his head a bit! He is funny ( I think you learn more as you age and his only young!)

quicknamechanger2020 · 11/09/2020 23:49

Long term Mumsnetter but name changed to say ahhhh this is my uncle and I'm so proud! My family has always been super into knowledge/quizzes/games (Christmas is always a super competitive games fest). I always said we should get an egg heads team together but clearly wasn't aiming high enough 😂

AlwaysInAQ · 11/09/2020 23:53

He was a great contestant! You must be so proud PP!

HappydaysArehere · 12/09/2020 00:21

He kept saying the questions fell just right for him as if it had little to do with his intelligence and fantastic recall.

5foot5 · 12/09/2020 09:40

I thought he seemed like a really nice bloke, especially when he said he would give up work but would wait until he got his current students through their A levels first.

On the Big Ben question DH said "Oh it's definitely not Big Ben, that's relatively new" Ha ha! Mind you both him and DD knew the pirate question. I hadn't a clue.

Puppy72 · 12/09/2020 13:28

@quicknamechanger2020 aww, I'd be super proud if I was related to him. He's unbelievably intelligent!! I don't even know what day it is most days 😂🙋

@quicknamechanger2020 he seemed like such a lovely man. Well done that man! Lovely viewing

PleasantVille · 12/09/2020 13:34

Such a shame that he didn't get the full audience experience, he's the Liverpool 2020 of millionaires Grin

The80sweregreat · 12/09/2020 13:58

I'm chuffed for him.

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2020 20:58

Both him and his older brother (that won £500,000 last year) are secindary school teachers 😯 Donald taught History (as well as Politics and Geography) and his brother is a Geography teacher I believe I read.

He also said he'd wait until the end of the year to get his A Level students through, but I've since read online that he's now resigned and will be leaving at Christmas!

All these trips abroad he wanted to go on, will now be replaced with a motor home to tour Britain with!

Loved the faces and comments from Jeremy Clarkson. He's so funny.

The easiest question was the one he used his one lifeline on (which German day was the weekend) imho.

Figgygal · 12/09/2020 21:01

Have the questions been dumbed down?

I got to question 12 before getting any wrong

Good on him but was shocked At how easy they seemed

The80sweregreat · 12/09/2020 21:12

He used his 50/ 50 on a religious question.
He had 3 lifelines left at the end ( two phone a friend and ask the host)
He was amazing!

Meredusoleil · 12/09/2020 21:14

Oh yes. You're right. I've got mixed up!

Skerryberry · 12/09/2020 21:15

@quicknamechanger2020 was your uncle allowed to tell you how much he had won before the show was broadcast?

You must be super proud of both family members. Donald seems lovely.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/09/2020 21:17

I knew the pirate question and a fair few of the earlier ones, but would have got the religion one wrong (I thought Hannukah) and I wasn't sure about the 500k question. Fair play to the bloke, he seemed like a decent sort.

quicknamechanger2020 · 12/09/2020 21:21

No, they are not allowed to tell anyone how much, he didn’t even tell their kids! I think they sign an nda so if they tell someone and it comes out they lose the money. So the whole family (apart from his wife) found out last night!

quicknamechanger2020 · 12/09/2020 21:22

And yes, very proud of them both 😊

WingBingo · 12/09/2020 21:23

This was on when I switched Netflix back to live TV and for some reason started to watch, he was on about £12k at that point I think.

Something made me keep watching , it was awesome.

He actually taught piracy, how specific is that for the million pound question?

He was brilliant and seemed like a lovely guy.

FractionalGains · 12/09/2020 21:26

I was so thrilled for him! I didn’t even know Blackbeard was a real person, assumed he was fictitious!

@quicknamechanger2020 One thing I thought was lovely is I read an interview where he said he went quickly to try and make sure there was time for someone else to have a go. So sweet.

No point in hanging about and wasting time when he knew the answers straight away 😉 Jeremy's face said it all. He was almost desperate for ways to drag out the suspense 🤣
awaynboilyurheid · 13/09/2020 09:28

Jeremy C looked emotional and that takes some doing! What a great win and seemed so effortless We were all cheering him on at home! Seemed a lovely man.

Buddywoo · 13/09/2020 09:37

I thought JC seemed a bit disappointed that it hadn't been more dramatic.
I agree the winner was a lovely man.

quicknamechanger2020 · 13/09/2020 10:04

Ah he is lovely! I think that's been the best thing about all of this, couldn't have gone to a nicer person. And the outpouring of love and support for his hundreds of ex students says it all! Just hope we get to celebrate in person soon (bloody Covid 😭)

quicknamechanger2020 · 13/09/2020 10:04

*from his ex students, not for!

Deathraystare · 13/09/2020 15:14

I love quiz shows and am quite good at them (because I am not on tv with the lights and everything, but saw catchphrase - now I rarely get that!
