The model on the Evans ad is a bit um, ordinary do you not think?

Is she a competition winner or something? There are plenty of stunning plus size models yet the one that is modelling for the biggest plus size chain is, well, a bit of a minger. She is pleasant looking but not fab and I think that they could help larger women feel better if they were represented as stunning instead of girl-next-door-ish.

are you really talking about the girl with the long black hair on the website? She's gorgeous! I wish I looked like her!

escape · 07/10/2007 09:39

totally agree with OP,
I have noticed this and whilst she is clearly not minging, I don't think she's a prof. model, she is very awkward and her face is a bit characterless

policywonk · 07/10/2007 10:03

I'm surprised by how many women on this thread believe that women should be objectified more, rather than less - or that is is desirable for women to be presented with one, uttatainable (for most) ideal of gorgeous-face-skinny-body at all times. Gosh, I mean, if advertisers start using relatively normal-looking women, some women might find that their self-esteem improves - and then where would we be?

charliecat · 07/10/2007 10:08

Surely you are not talking about the girl from the link. She is lovely.

raspberryberet · 07/10/2007 10:26

Kate Moss isn't exactly a stunner these days either, but that doesn't seem to put designers and retailers off ...

What I think is a shame is that even the largest retailer of clothing for large women doesn't have the courage to use real plus-sized women to model their clothes. It is patronising in the extreme to sell clothing up to size 32 yet only ever model them on size 16 women. There is a world of difference between a size 16 (who, let's face it, can buy clothes pretty much everywhere) and a size 32. I'd rather see how the clothes were going to look on the women who are going to buy them, than see them modelled on someone who clearly doesn't have the kind of shape they are aimed at.

stepfordwife · 07/10/2007 10:55

blimey, i think she's really pretty.
but i am easily pleased...

belgo · 07/10/2007 11:03

I agree with raspberry. The evans model looks too slim to be modelling larger clothes.

anniebear · 07/10/2007 11:04

Lol, shes prob a size 16 and 6ft!!!!!

Now I would look fine if I was 6ft

pirategirl · 07/10/2007 11:05

where is this woman? is it the dark haired one?

MyTwopenceworth · 07/10/2007 11:08

Not everyone is stunning. Some of us are fat AND ugly. Last thing you need is the message that it's just about ok to be fat as long as you have a beautiful face.

lillypie · 07/10/2007 11:12

What's wrong with ordinary?

Most of us are aren't we?

you can't mean the girl in the ad on the link ?? surely not - she is lovely !

unknownrebelbang · 07/10/2007 16:56

I'd prefer an "average looking" woman tbh, but I would also prefer to see the clothes modelled on a more realistically sized and shaped model showing that the clothes still look good iykwim.

Twiglett · 07/10/2007 17:05

belgo · 07/10/2007 17:06

Twiglett · 07/10/2007 17:10

what the hell?

she's really striking

ScaremyVile · 07/10/2007 17:12

The girl on the link is gorgeous - she cant be the one referred to in the op surely?

Slight aside- I saw a gorgeous, stunning woman t'other day, she was probably 16/18 and I couldn't take my eyes off her she was FOXY. She may not have been model material either but lord, she was jaw-dropping (in a good way)so I'm sure more than a classically beautiful face and figure are of worth to the modelling world - some people just have something about them.

I kept thinking 'bet she's an MNer'

policywonk · 07/10/2007 17:13

No, no, no, Twig. She is not superhumanly gorgeous enough to meet our exacting standards. We want to see someone who is really out of our league. It makes us feel so good about ourselves, you see.

policywonk · 07/10/2007 17:13

Oh that was me JV

UlySCREAMS · 07/10/2007 17:14

I think she's gorgeous. In other peoples words I'm good looking and slim but I think she is too. Although good looking and voluptuous.

ScaremyVile · 07/10/2007 17:15

I did think that PW - I really did wonder!
(I have very glam versions of some of you lot in my head).

policywonk · 07/10/2007 17:20

I would toss my hair for you, but we have had a nits letter from the school this week, so it might not be wise.

ScaremyVile · 07/10/2007 17:31

Dont - I have a real fear of nits (plan on home schooling for this reason).
I nearly put DSs winter coat back as man in front at the till was swinging his DD over his shoulder - I had visions of nits showering over it and having a coat infestation. Couldn't though as they didn't have another in his size.

I did look though
