I couldn't see a thread on this so apologies if there was one and I missed it.

Apparently this will be on before the end of the year, filming has just finished

GBBO

Yay!! Something good on the tele to look forward to for a change

I'm liking them all too, so far. A nice mix of personalities. I particularly like Rowan and Marc (?). I can't remember who won last year even. Confused

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 27/09/2020 12:50

Am I missing something?

Why is everyone mis-spelling Candice's name as Candace? HmmConfused

Probably because that's how it was pronounced?

So Candiss rather than Candeese?

acatcalledjohn · 27/09/2020 13:53

Candice. I stand corrected. At least I remembered how it was pronounced I suppose.

Lurkingforawhile · 27/09/2020 14:43

I read an article in the Guardian about how they did the bubble. It was lovely as family and dogs were invited, and they also realised the tech staff wouldn't have work / financial support so they made sure the show happened. And TBF I think it cheered a lot of people up!

acatcalledjohn · 27/09/2020 16:22

I think it's arrived just in time for this round of increased restrictions. A bit of joy in an otherwise pretty depressing year.

terrywynne · 27/09/2020 16:53

That Guardian article is fascinating. Sounds quite the undertaking (and rather fun all things considered). It is nice that they went ahead because of the freelance staff - it has been tough for the industry.

merryhouse · 27/09/2020 17:57

@CircusAnimals Marc seems fairly upbeat on his Facebook page (not giving anything away, obviously). He described the experience as "yes, very weird and quite overwhelming - in a good way"

That IS lovely!

A wonderful show in every respect.

My mistake, for some reason I thought that was how she spelled it, although I know it's not the conventional spelling. I've seen it somewhere though, American perhaps?
Egghead68 · 27/09/2020 18:34

It’s fantastic how much effort they all put into making this show happen. Really well done.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/09/2020 21:07

Not Covid toe? I hope Schady ?

Still waiting for the test results, ppeat. Sad

Starksforthewin · 28/09/2020 01:31

I was so uplifted by the return of Bake Off. It felt so normal and comforting. The best TV since lockdown I think.

Loving all the posters who spotted that it was Aladdin Sane NOT Ziggy Stardust depicted in the Bowie cake.
We will absolutely not have Bowie disrespected! 👍🏻

I think Noel made a reference to The Thin White Duke, which, again, was a different persona. Noel is now on a warning. 😀

Confession time; I was one of those posters who thought Matt Lucas was a terrible choice and was cross that yet another man had been selected
I was so wrong, Matt was great. Gentle, self-deprecating and greedy for the cake! Perfect.

Yes I heard Justine's husband Ian Katz discussing it on the radio last week. It's cost CH4 a lot to do this but it was worth it.
ppeatfruit · 28/09/2020 09:07

Sorry to derail but I was a bit ill in March . It has left me with a strange toe, not terrible though. I'm also waiting for the results of a blood test Schady Hmm

Ref. the Bake Off Bubble That was great of Channel 4 to do that, I was impressed with the lovely little caravans that Matt said they all had.

IntermittentParps · 28/09/2020 09:45

So admirable of them to do the show because otherwise the freelance crew members wouldn't have any work or income. That's genuinely heartwarming.

I think Dave probably DID hug/reassure Sura and they just didn't show it in the edit because it creates more drama. I think they were equally at fault (or equally not at fault) about Swipegate.

I like Lottie; she's funny and dry. I feel for anyone who works in theatre at the moment as well.
I adore Rowan. Like Sura and her expressive face. Like Dave too even though others of my household think he's a bit dull. Didn't like the woman from Bexhill who mucked up the technical and think she should have gone. Mark (I think?) who did Darwin is a bit 'I'm mad, me' and grates on me slightly. No one else has really stuck with me as yet.

Matt is fine so far; quite likeable, gentle and seems to enjoy it.
I'm SO pleased this show is on. Really need it this year.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/09/2020 12:01

Those cute little shepherds huts made me think immediately of Lynda Snell.

I began to imagine a celebrity edition of Bake Off, with some of The Archers cast taking part in character!

Lynda, Jill, Clarrie and Ian would be my chosen line-up WinkGrin

FutureProofed · 28/09/2020 12:17

Those cute little shepherds huts made me think immediately of Lynda Snell.

God, they made me think of David Cameron, writing his Tory Self-Justification 'memoir' in one. Which was then underlined when Rowan's Marie Antoinette bust had a curiously gammon-cheeked Cameronian look. Eek.

degreedebatedefine · 28/09/2020 13:59

Joining in the fun!

ppeatfruit · 28/09/2020 14:40

Ian 's a pro. so wouldn't be allowed to enter the GBBO tent, I think! Where'sThat Emma , Lizzie and Lily would complete TA group!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 28/09/2020 14:58

I'm SO pleased this show is on. Really need it this year.

In SPADES!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/09/2020 16:50

Yes, but, Ian's a professional chef, ppeatfruit, not a baker.

And can you imagine Jill being in competition with anybody?

She's been the undisputed 'Star Baker of Ambridge', for decades!

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 28/09/2020 16:54

And I'm not sure I've ever heard Elizabeth ever do anything in the kitchen!

It's always CMR who seems to whip up something weird for dinner this last year or two Wink

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2020 08:59

Oh blimey is this The Archers thread , I've accidentally got into? Grin I reckon that Ian would make a good judge though WheresThat

Hooray GBBO tonight!!!!!
