Ya Ya Ding Dong! One of the funniest, most feel good films I've seen; it's about two Icelandic musicians and their childhood dream of winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
Brilliant!

I loved it - perfect bit of escapism. Rachel McAdams was good and Dan Stevens even better! Gorgeous scenery in the Icelandic bits too. Agree Ferrell was a bit old for the role but he was ok. The music video at the start was really good!

@redskittleorangeskittle

What mistake?
Spain is shown as having made it through the semi final. Spain is a big 5 and doesn't compete in the semis.
BitOfFun · 28/06/2020 23:58

Brilliant fun, loved it.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 29/06/2020 00:02

Just finished it & loved it! It was just the sort of film I needed right now! I’ve downloaded the soundtrack too! I was surprised that Dan Stevens didn’t do his own vocals though, he’s got a great voice.

crumpet · 29/06/2020 00:05

Loved it. Not high art of course but gloriously silly. JaJaDingDong...

WhatWouldDominicDo · 29/06/2020 00:09

We loved it too. Also big Eurovision fans though. Dan Stevens was fab!

BinkyBoinky · 29/06/2020 03:39

Just watched it, it's fantastic! And I hate Eurovision!

Love the music especially the big number at the end, it gave me all the feels. I also love Rachel McAdams, she was brilliant.

PerspicaciaTick · 29/06/2020 04:15

We watched it yesterday and loved it. Even miserable DH who doesn't do "American" or "comedy".
The family sitting room at the start looks almost identical to the sitting room in the video for Daði og Gagnamagnið's Euro entry this year - I could swear they shared a set.
Look at the cast list - everyone busy playing themselves as the whole of Eurovision turned up.
And Iceland is gorgeous -made me want to go back.

Delightful nonsense Grin

YaYaDingDong · 29/06/2020 18:11

I liked it so much I changed my name Grin

Barbthebuilder · 29/06/2020 18:22

@Twizbe the UK was in the semi final too! But they did have us getting no points, so that but was realistic at least!

SockYarn · 29/06/2020 19:19

Yes but the contest was being held in Edinburgh, which would mean the UK had won it the year before!!

Twizbe · 29/06/2020 20:10

Not necessarily. The winning country is invited to host, but they can decline. In the past the UK has hosted when the wining country declined.

It seemed in the film like they'd hinted at this scenario as the hosts didn't have Scottish accents

Unless we got our independence and competed as a separate country? (Hides my wooden spoon 😉)
SockYarn · 29/06/2020 20:57

Gosh you lot are up on your Eurovision, I always thought it was the winner who hosted - and that was one of the major plotlines of the film!

totallyyesno · 29/06/2020 21:02

Is it suitable for kids?

@totallyyesno - I was happy for my 12yo to watch it. There is no sex (but some weird Will Ferrell snogging), relatively little violence which is cartoonish rather than graphic, there is plenty of swearing. It probably depends on how old your children are and you feel about these things. If you would watch Blades of Glory with them then this will be fine too.

totallyyesno · 30/06/2020 06:38

@PerspicaciaTick Thanks! My dd is 10 and a big Eurovision fan so I think we'll watch it together.

SushiGo · 30/06/2020 06:43

We loved it too! I mean it's silly, obviously, in a very affectionate way.

Most of the terrible reviews seem to be from American critics who don't like or get Eurovision. (And I don't understand why they would even bother to watch it frankly!)

EdgarAllenCrow123 · 30/06/2020 06:52

It wasn't as funny as i'd hoped but it definitely was fun and puts me in a good mood. I was also quite impressed with some of the musical numbers Smile

YaYaDingDong · 30/06/2020 09:02

I agree Edgar. Some of those songs would have done quite will in the real competition.

SockYarn · 30/06/2020 10:01

Can we just talk about Dan Stevens' hairdo, channelling George Michael in about 1984? Not a HAIR out of place. Amazing.
