Ya Ya Ding Dong! One of the funniest, most feel good films I've seen; it's about two Icelandic musicians and their childhood dream of winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
Brilliant!

Looking forward to watching this, trailer looks amazing

Heidihoo · 27/06/2020 18:58

Hungover today and watching this was the best!

Djchickpea · 27/06/2020 19:03

Oh I'm glad to hear this as reading the reviews it seems it wasn't well received!

Jodri · 27/06/2020 19:05

Oh my! We watched this last night and it was brilliant. We do love Eurovision though.
Ja Ja Ding Dong!

SockYarn · 27/06/2020 21:46

Have just watched this and both DH and I LOVED IT.

A total pisstake of Eurovision but in an affectionate way. Dan Stevens is superb. One of the best things I've seen on Netflix recently and perfect for light-hearted lockdown viewing.

(Lots of places I recognised in Glasgow and Edinburgh too)

Beccatheboo · 27/06/2020 22:43

Just watched it - a great parody and heart-warming watch. Gutted that the real thing was cancelled this year - my favourite night of the year! Love Will Ferrell so much!

JellyfishandShells · 27/06/2020 23:34

It dragged a bit about 3/4 of the way in ( much like the actual Eurovision experience) but generally it was silly fun. Worth it for Dan Stevens playing a Russian sex god singer with a bouffant hairdo and a Graham Norton cameo.

Theromanempire · 27/06/2020 23:40

We watched it last night and thought it was fab! It was quirky, charming and an affectionate pisstake of Eurovision - light hearted entertainment!

Not sure Will Ferrell was the best choice - a bit too old for that part I thought but I can see why as his character was similar to Buddy in terms of being quite childlike.

But Dan Stevens was amazing - played the part to perfection and totally stole the film!

HRTRefusal · 28/06/2020 02:07

Just finished watching it, probably only stuck with it because of Dan Stevens, he stole the show, absolutely brilliant.

LyndaLaHughes · 28/06/2020 16:17

It was brilliant. So funny and Dan Stevens was the best thing in it.

wowfudge · 28/06/2020 16:19

I'm glad it's affectionate rather than a total pisstake. Ironic that it's about the Icelandic entry as they were widely tipped to win this year had it gone ahead.

FelicityPike · 28/06/2020 16:23

LOVED IT!
I cried during the pianist cameo (don’t want to spoil it!)...loves all the other cameos too.
Laughed at The Hydro being in Edinburgh though.

Nixee2231 · 28/06/2020 16:26

DH and I watched it last night and have been humming Ja Ja Ding Dong all day long! I'm allergic to juvenile movies and thought this would be shit, but it was actually surprisingly sweet and enjoyable

waitrosequeue · 28/06/2020 16:35

Watched it last night.

A feel good film and raised a few chuckles from the teenagers which is also a blessing at the moment !

Pierce Bronson very much a silver fox 💕

ArsenicNLace · 28/06/2020 16:44

OMG!! I must have been watching a totally different film to everyone else! Just finished watching! I thought it was dire.

Enjoyed the music but the comedy was non existent! Admittedly not a Will Ferrell fan. Hated 'Elf' and find Ferrell himself really creepy.

Clearly I'm in the minority.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/06/2020 17:23

We watched it last night and really enjoyed it - it was very true to the Eurovision spirit, which we adore.

LindowMan · 28/06/2020 22:36

Loved it! As did dd. Can't believe how they got the Eurovision tone just right.

jitterbugintomybrain · 28/06/2020 22:41

I love Elf but I didn't like this at all even with a bit of Abba thrown in. It was just very strange! Iceland looked nice though!

cabbageking · 28/06/2020 22:56

Turned it off after half an hour.

redskittleorangeskittle · 28/06/2020 23:03

I loved it - it really captured the essence of Eurovision. The cameos were all very cleverly done. Loved the hamster wheel! Shame there were no Russian grannies.

redskittleorangeskittle · 28/06/2020 23:04

People who didn’t like it- do you watch Eurovision?

Twizbe · 28/06/2020 23:06

I've just watched it. I LOVE Eurovision so was very excited for this. Loved the song a long bit.

Did anyone else notice the deliberate (I assume) mistake?

redskittleorangeskittle · 28/06/2020 23:11

What mistake?

Mamette · 28/06/2020 23:15

Just watched it! It was much funnier than I thought it would be- the medley with the real Eurovision contestants was brilliant.

Rebeccasmoonnecklace · 28/06/2020 23:19

Just finished watching it. Brilliant feel good movie.
