Anyone else watching?

I was quite gripped by the first part. I sort of remember the case although I was very caught up in the world of having a new baby when it happened back in 2001 and probably wasn't fully engaged with the news.

I do remember reading several fairly long news articles about the case over the years and know that Joanne Lees has always been regarded with suspicion in some quarters.

The thing I'm taking from tonight's episode is - how are they going to explain away the suspect/accused Brad Murdoch's DNA being present on her t-shirt?

Also, the defence lawyer. I don't know about him.

One thing I practically rolled my eyes out of my skull at was when the guy said there was no smudged mascara after JL had supposedly been crying. Hmm for starters she didn’t even look as if she was wearing make up. And secondly, umm, waterproof mascara!! A woman who has been through what she has, has been chased by paparazzi knows to wear waterproof mascara if she’s going to wear any at all.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 10/06/2020 00:44

Joanne Lees was not acting in the sort of way that people who have been through something like this, act

Absolute rubbish. You mean the way you think she should act. How many women do you know who've been through something like this and why do you think you know exactly how everyone would act?

Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 01:00

Oh I am setting my pants at this “DNA transfer re-enactment! 😂

Yeah because a liquid on your hands is exactly the same as shedding skin cells! Idiots.

Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 01:00

wetting!!

CheerfuIPotato · 10/06/2020 01:02

I binge watched it all.

I think they’ve got the right bloke.

happilybemused · 10/06/2020 07:20

After watching all 4 episodes I am sure they convicted the right person.

Although JL did not come across well. I've been more emotional and panicked over not been able to find my phone in the bottom of my bag Shock

Bluemoooon · 10/06/2020 07:29

But the first thing you'd say about the suspect was his height. 5ft 6 is huge, even sitting down. And you can't snap those plastic ties ime, you can only cut them.

Brainygaga · 10/06/2020 07:44

Joanne Lees is NOT with Peter's brother.

oohnicevase · 10/06/2020 08:16

Maybe it's fantasy about the red car but there should at least have been a discussion about it .. why would he lie ?? Also she admitted they were both strung out on strong marijuana so her memory will be sketchy .

Yes, I thought whoever it was who said she was fake crying because she covered her face with her hands was a cock of the highest order.

Delatron · 10/06/2020 09:13

The program lost what little credibility it had at that time. She didn’t cry enough, she covered her face therefore she couldn’t be crying, her mascara wasn’t smudged. Blah blah. Utter crap.

SuburbanCrofter · 10/06/2020 10:09

I came on here to rant about the misogny too. The member of the press saying 'Joanne was calling the shots'. How dare someone who has heard their boyfriend shot, been tied up and slung in the back of a truck and thought they were going to be raped, then hidden in the bush for four hours decide they don't want to relive that in front of a crowd of braying (mostly) men...Hmm

Bluemoooon · 10/06/2020 11:14

Why did she say she didn't stop at the first petrol station when the owner saw her. You wouldn't set out into the wilderness without at least considering where you will have to get petrol.

ssd · 10/06/2020 12:12

There were just too many inconsistencies for me. I don't care how she acted or what she wore. Or how she cried. The facts don't add up, it isn't straightforward.

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/06/2020 12:15

She's still adament she didn't stop there. She's no reason to lie about it that I can think of. Which makes me think she isn't lying.

Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 12:26

I think loads of the participants we’re just making up stories for their 15 minutes of fame tbh. Like the couple who swore they saw PF in their store afterwards. Likelyhood it is was a man very similar to PF and they’ve convinced themselves it was him for a bit of excitement.

ChippyDucks150 · 10/06/2020 12:30

@Bluemoooon I couldn't agree more. I've driven in the outback, and the fuel stations are so few and far between that you have to stop at them, and the fact she just lied about being there? Too many inconsistencies in her story for me, sorry.
I'm not saying she did it, but her story just has something missing.
She also came across as very arrogant in the police interviews, and very bouncy and smiley at times when anyone would know it was inappropriate behaviour given the circumstances.

JacobReesMogadishu · 10/06/2020 12:38

It's a 3 hour drive between Alice Springs and Barrow Creek. Barrow creek has a gas station.

I can't remember if this gas station owner was in Alice Springs or somewhere between the 2 but it's quite possible for a VW campervan to drive 3 hours without needing fuel. So possible they felt they had enough to get to Barrow and were going to fill up there.

Psychgirl84 · 10/06/2020 12:50

Think the documentary was biased towards the defendant, blaming joanne just because she didn't portray the stereotypical victim. Watched all the episodes and have a masters is CSI and still believe watching all the evidence and the show, they have the right guy.

Delatron · 10/06/2020 13:14

I mean that guy who was disputing the height of the suspect in the petrol station by measuring him against the wall in the picture. He was already well away from the wall in the picture and was stooping, bad posture.

As if getting your ruler out in that situation proves anything.

They were just grasping at straws.

TooTiredTodayOk · 10/06/2020 13:24

the fuel stations are so few and far between that you have to stop at them, and the fact she just lied about being there?

Why was she lying, and not the owner of the fuel station that's lying?

The owner claims that Joanne and Peter sat in the dining area and had food and drinks there, so where are the staff and other diners backing up his story that they were indeed there? He appears to be the only one that remembers seeing them.

As for the shop owner and his wife who claim Peter Falconio walked into their shop and bought a can of coke and a mars bar, and despite the story and his face being all over the news, and in the very newspaper the man was reading at time, they decided not to call the police because it was 'none of his business' - What a load of bollocks!

I was completely baffled by that. It was very obvious the suspect wasn’t right beside the wall, he was moving away from it, at a diagonal, not even head on, and he was hunched over. What the hell sort of “expert” was he? Confused
Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 13:26

Yes I noticed that. They said the owner and two of his staff witnessed PF and JL in the cafe. No mention of any other independent customers witnessing them though.

Delatron · 10/06/2020 13:31

Agree @Smallsteps88 I was shouting at the television ‘he’s not even against the wall’
He was well in to the shop and yes on the diagonal and stooping.

He had his pencil and ruler out 😂.

The only way that would have proved his height would have been if he was stood right up against the wall/door with his back flat and standing up straight/ not hunching. Expert pfff.

Smallsteps88 · 10/06/2020 13:34

There were far better shots they could have used for measuring his height. There was one shot where he was leaving the shop, he was physically between the door and the wall. Straight on.
