Hope I haven’t jumped the gun, but the old thread was getting quite full.

I’ve just been browsing the
www.bigcommunitysew.co.uk/
and trying to work out what sewing machines they were using at home. I always do that when a magazine has a feature about one if the contestants. Blush
I think Therese has the same Juki machine as I have and she’s also got the mini quilter too. Lucky lass.

Also, do you think that maybe either Therese or that slightly annoying bloke Peter might have won this year as they also have Juliet, the winner from the last series in this group?

Nicole’s is lovely but doesn’t really look like it was made of truly recycled clothes, bit too matchy. To be fair the same could be said of Clare’s.

I loved Liz’s dress.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/05/2020 22:00

That's the highlight of the week over. Wonder if I've got any old jumpers lying about.

Jellykat · 27/05/2020 22:04

Best thing on telly atm, see you next week ladies

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 22:25

Once again Matt's made a dress that's going to be too small for his model

Matt didn't did he?

PollyEthel · 27/05/2020 22:27

Really liked Clare's dress - that was the only one I would wear, and now I really want it!

Glad Therese stayed - with two second places (?) this week, I thought she was probably safe as her dress was boring, but still a wearable dress.

dillite · 27/05/2020 22:53

SoupDragon sorry, I should have said that my comment was in regard to the next week's preview. His dress is too small yet again.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2020 23:00

I deliberately try not to watch the spoilerish "next week..." bits.

TheSparklyPussycat · 27/05/2020 23:20

A good week. But I was distracted by envy for Clare's beautiful jumper. Sad thing is I would be able to knit it, but not be able to wear it as it would cling to my large boobs and rolls of midriff fat

TheSparklyPussycat · 27/05/2020 23:27

Re spoilers: I always record GBSB so I can savour it, at the start of the programme I watch the little intro and the recap of last week, then fast foward at 2x while covering most of the screen with my hand until the opening titles.

I hate programmes that start by doing spoilers for what is to follow in the self same programme.

TheSparklyPussycat · 27/05/2020 23:30

I don't hate the programmes themselves, obviously Grin

SoupDragon · 28/05/2020 08:27

I close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears at those bits 😂 Same for the "Next Week!" spoilers. Why do they do it? On some dramas there is no point watching as they seem to have given away about 75% of the story.

Icypop · 28/05/2020 08:43

Did anyone else notice Esme looked a bit cats bum face while Patrick was saying he wanted Nicole's to be garment of the week. Then she made the comment about it being 'high street'. I might be wrong but I just got the impression that she doesnt like her very much Shock

SoupDragon · 28/05/2020 08:49

I think it was just because they both had strong views about their choice and it is unusual for them to disagree so completely. I think there have been 2 garments of the week before but very rarely.

I think she was right to an extent, although I would add "1980's" In front of "high street". I far preferred Matt's.

Thinking about it, having effectively made up something that could easily be on the high street isn't necessarily a bad thing - I would be chuffed even if it wasn't meant as a compliment 😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/05/2020 08:50

I think there must have been quite a bit of 'meaningful discussion' behind the scenes for them to compromise with two Garments of the Week. I don't dislike Nicole but I think she would get on my nerves a bit, she's a bit of a Tigger, too bouncy.

SoupDragon · 28/05/2020 08:51

I think Esme is portrayed as more critical and perhaps blunter than
Patrick. I think she is usually right though and I suspect the full filmed sequences would be more constructive than the edited highlights.

MaMaLa321 · 28/05/2020 09:02

I think that Matt's dress was very cleverly made, but the weight of all that fabric would have stretched the upper section out of shape within a wear or two.
Clare's was just lovely, but not really within the challenge, as all the different fabrics were the same IMO, just different colours. I don't know how she got away with that.
I love Clare's style. She knows just how to dress to make the most of her unusual looks. I spent most of the time trying to work out the neckline on her green jersey. I think it must have been crocheted.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/05/2020 09:23

I did think that about Clare's materials. But then I realised I have about six M&S cashmilon jumpers in varies colours, and my DM and DSis have some too, so I could possibly do it. I doubt I'd have all the right colours though.

I liked Liz using her daughter's school cardi, that was more in the spirit of the challenge.

MaMaLa321 · 28/05/2020 09:40

Clare has an instagram feed (clare.bradders) and the green jumper is on there, with reference to the book it comes from - A Stitch in Time by Jane Waller. However, much as I'd love to, I think it would only suit willowy types (as someone else said)

PoshNorthEssex · 28/05/2020 09:47

Am completely new to The Bee - and loving it! Does anybody know if past seasons are available to watch anywhere? Think BBC is missing a trick not having them on iPlayer...

MorrisZapp · 28/05/2020 09:48

I thought Thereses dress was the best one! Why on earth mark down because she changed her mind, rather than mark the garment in front of them? I loved her dress.

There was a bit of D. Cummings style rule interpretation about the fabrics used wasn't there. I'd liked to have seen a brief shot and description of each stash, as some of it was suspiciously un-knitwear like. I'm not convinced anyone owns four old jumpers made of fresh, bright pique cotton.

On the other hand, the winning one with the snow queen collar suffered from being anchored by a truly tatty old sweater in a weird colour, complete with bobbling.

MaMaLa321 · 28/05/2020 09:52

Yes, Theresa's was the best (even better than Clare's). I would like her, Clare or Liz to win, as they are the best sewers, but I don't think they will because they're not wacky enough.

SoupDragon · 28/05/2020 09:52

Dear god - don't drag DC into this too. This is a haven away from all that nonsense!

MorrisZapp · 28/05/2020 10:06

Sorry! Newbie error. Ignore moi :)

iklboo · 28/05/2020 10:10

Yes this is a strictly No Politics Zone but anything sewing / crafting goes.

RiveterRosie · 28/05/2020 11:19

I always feel dreadful about binning clothes that aren't in a condition to charity shop.

Any clothes that are not in very good condition get sold on to rag merchants who recycle them and make them in to things like J Cloths, so it is always worth sending even very tatty things to the a charity shop. They will still make some money from them.
