Just watched first episode. Mainly watching for an Ibiza nostalgia trip down memory lane. Think it might be quite binge-worthy unless it’s absolutely dreadful!

OP posts:
Fantasisa · 17/05/2020 22:48

It is crap

MinteeFresh · 17/05/2020 22:49

But, yes, Boxer ...

ILikeyourHairyHands · 17/05/2020 22:58

Yes, their music/popular culture history is a bit wonky which is annoying, it was confusing me at first as I'd presumed it was about 1989/90 when they'd gone to Ibiza and was thinking his sister must have been tiny when he left.

But it is enjoyable nonsense, and of course, as others have said, Boxer...

sweetkitty · 17/05/2020 23:09

I’m up to episode 4 (watched doing the ironing) what was the point of the orgy in episode 1, yes Anna the ex-wife arranges sex parties but did we need all the tits???

Haggisfish · 17/05/2020 23:11

Indeed. Liked the coke snorting dogs as well!🤣

daisymay133 · 17/05/2020 23:19

To pp I’m up north and we all say eye -bitha

nitgel · 17/05/2020 23:22

I enjoyed this. Loved the eastern Europeans at the end. Thought it was funny and loved laurence fox.

BitOfFun · 17/05/2020 23:27

I thought she was going for a Liverpool accent!

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 20:20

Glad I found this! So... some questions....

Why does the head of security for one of the wealthiest families in Ibiza drive that car?

Are they ever going to fuck?!

And crucially - who dun it?!

(Not looking for spoilers, just theories!)

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 20:22

@rollergirl I thought the same about 1996 raves

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 20:25

Most people say eye-beatha I think (as much as I understand that it's correct) saying eh-beatha is pretentious

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 20:32

Oh.... one of my pre ious questions has just been answered!!! 🔥

Afternooninthepark · 18/05/2020 21:22

Watching it now, quite enjoy it and brings back memories. Here in Essex we say I-bee-fa!!

SpokeTooSoon · 18/05/2020 21:57

Why is it pretentious to say i-beatha? Do you also say Eye-ndia for India? Grin I always think Eye-beatha requires a bit more effort than the correct pronunciation.

SpokeTooSoon · 18/05/2020 21:58

Why the orgy scene? To get the viewers in!

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 22:25

Yeah I know I'm totally wrong @spoketosoon. I just feel it's pretentious... most common folk say Eye-betha

rosecreakybex · 18/05/2020 22:26

Episode 6 and I'm right in

daisymay133 · 18/05/2020 22:27

Eye Bitha or ee bitha is correct pronunciation in English looking at google

I’m surprised as I thought I- bitha br more popular bit seems that way isn’t right 🤔

Sameold2020 · 18/05/2020 22:35

Yeah, we just call it Beefa (not from Essex).

rosecreakybex · 19/05/2020 23:15

He wanted to shag his mum?!

SpokeTooSoon · 22/05/2020 10:19

Well, I finished this last night. It was oddly gripping but really a bit shit - if there was another episode I’d watch it though! The intervention scene with the Calafat family and David - why would they do that? Why would Oriol sit there admitting he fancied his mother? I feel this is a secret one would take to the grave, not share in a round-table family conference!

The big reveal - I won’t give it away. It was really sad and terrible actually. I was left wondering why they were all so dramatic all the time - why Axle was such a head case, the intensity of their “fuck’em all” attitude, all the deep meaningful nonsense drug-addled conversations - all a bit of a waste of young lives it felt. I guess my youth was just nothing like that so I can’t imagine wanting to snort my teens and 20s away getting constantly high, drunk and shagged!!!

I was expecting a lot more music that I would recognise. I hardly knew any of it. Summer of 96, wasn’t it all Blur and Oasis anyway? Grin

lardass88 · 22/05/2020 16:29

And Euro'96 was on that summer! Ahhh the memories ..

queenofarles · 22/05/2020 17:08

I’m on episode 6, it’s like a trashy romance novel isn’t it? But I can’t stop watching !
The clothes and houses are all wrong for mid 90s. Zoe is my age 36-37? And I’ve never worn anything like the clothes she wore in 96, whereas Derry Girls was spot on with the 90s .
The locations in Ibiza are beautiful and some of the actors are hot!

rc22 · 23/05/2020 20:25

It is crap but since none of us are going to be getting away anywhere remotely hot this summer it's worth watching!

famousforwrongreason · 24/05/2020 00:25

It's a fab bit of escapism. As someone who was partying in that era I have no problem with the timeline, its not meant to be an historical doco, its Death in Paradise with an 18 certificate. Engaging fluff. And if you're not the vengaboys it's perfectly acceptable to pronounce it ibiza.
