Just spotted this. May be rubbish. Made by Alex Garland who I think I am meant to know about.

I think it is sci-fi rather than crime, but seems to have a female lead ...

Yes he's trying to prove to himself that he could only have done what he did when his daughter died i.e. he could not have prevented it.

Beebumble2 · 19/04/2020 18:42

Binged watched the whole series on IPlayer. Absolutely brilliant! Stay with it the ending is the last piece of the jigsaw.

RhubarbTea · 19/04/2020 19:42

Oh good, thanks Bee - I'm rationing myself to an episode a night and it's great to hear the last ep brings it all together.

SerenDippitty · 19/04/2020 20:16

Just finished - brilliant.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/04/2020 22:18

Just finished watching whole series.

Excellent. Elegiac. Exceptional.

More please!

stumbledin · 23/04/2020 13:05

Watched last night'e episode and a bit disappointed. I felt they spent too much time on revealing what was fairly obvious, and could have bought in other elements of the story.

Still dont quite get what the tech company is meant to be about publicly.

Is it a "thing" to be developing quantom / quantum computers?

Hoping tonight will be a bit Thelma and Louise given the ending yesteday!

I have watched it all now and to be honest a lot of it in the middle was rather slow and and pretentious I felt.

Don't want to ruin it for anyone else watching it but it really did drag in the middle for me I'm sure there was an entire episode that I thought was completely pointless.

ursuslemonade · 23/04/2020 21:44

Campervan69 could you please pm me what happened to Jamie in the next episode?
Thanks

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/04/2020 10:00

Just seen this so downloading from iPlayer

stumbledin · 24/04/2020 13:34

Oh dear, the plot line is getting very cliched (meaning the crime / thriller element). No Thelma and Louise.

As i dont understand quantum computers so that may have been new.

What was it that the young programmer did that was so against the concept of the CEO who is mourning his daughter?

Just here for a bit of a grumble. second to last episode and I was just bored.

I suspect it is because I just dont get it.

Just hoping the final episode tonight will make sticking with it worthwhile.

Campervan69 · 30/04/2020 14:19

I felt like that by the point you are at and in fact most of the way through the last episode I felt the same way.

rosybell · 30/04/2020 23:07

I really loved this series. Some bits went over my head, but I find the multi verse theories and simulations so fascinating. Reminded me of The Leftovers (which I adored) and Fringe (which was cheesy but also v enjoyable)

The main thing that ruined it a bit for me was the actress playing Lily just seemed so wooden for someone supposedly remarkable.

stumbledin · 01/05/2020 14:06

I've obvioulsy totally zoned out of this series. Last night weren't the final episodes, which are next week.

It really is dragging but suppose for people who like the sort of music they play and the slow monotone they all speak in, it might be a bit more engaging!

Watching and enjoying despite not really understanding the concept of devs Grin one more episode to go.

cushioncovers · 01/05/2020 21:21

Well I'm completely confused. Can someone please tell me what are the static images and how are they created? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Campervan69 · 02/05/2020 20:59

I agree it is really slow and droopy and pretentious. No idea what the statics are created out of it's something so clever it's above the head of this viewer.

Slat3 · 02/05/2020 21:18

I’ve watched two episodes and really don’t like the acting from lily, that’s my biggest big bear.
I also don’t understand it, why did they see Jesus? What is going on? Grin

IamEarthymama · 02/05/2020 21:34

Oh I loved this!

I like things that are multi layered, multi dimensional and don't make much sense!!

For example I love Cloud Atlas.

I Also love programmes set in San Francisco like Looking, where you can spot places you recognise

I am such a sad bugger really, good job my wife likes the same things

Apart from Cloud Atlas, she said, WTF are they up to!!

stumbledin · 08/05/2020 13:58

Help! I've got to the end.

What was it meant to be about?

Who is still alive?

Why would anyone in the first place work for someone so clearly demented?

The only thing I was right about was the supposed tramp sleeping on the front door steps.

Would someone be really kind and explain it in simple english.

Otherwise i am going to have to accept i have just wasted 12 hours of my live!

Forrest guy has a theory that everything in time can be predicted, backwards and forwards, and if we can tweak time we will be able to change a tiny moment of it. That's why he won't accept the multiple worlds theory, too much uncertainty and he won't get the death of his family undone. The quantum computers are set up to prove this theory for him, but it isn't working and the images generated by the AI are fuzzy and incomplete. Linden the genius boy, proves by using his program that the theory is correct and there are multiple worlds possible with different outcomes. This isn't what Forrest wants so he sacks him. He does eventually sort of embrace it, and the woman (forget name) look at this image of 'ground zero' where than can see nothing after Lily shoots Forrest. Forrest knows that after this one or other theory will be proved. So lily and Forrest both die, but are recreated as sentient beings but in a world created by the computer, one of multiple realities (like in the Matrix).

It's all about what is reality?

I just made all that shit up, as I doesn't understand it either 🤣

stumbledin · 08/05/2020 17:16

Well I'm quite happy with that - except that wasn't Linden a female?

Or is this just that the viewer is also part of multiple worlds???!!!!

Here are some other alternatives that made my head ache:

Lyndon was a 19 year old boy but was played by a female actress.

stumbledin · 08/05/2020 22:09

Well that didn't work then did it?!

And wasn't just me who thought this was meant to be a young geeky woman, quote

"Later, Lyndon discovers something in the code that appears to bring her great joy, which she first shares with Stewart and then the whole team."

OP posts:
Campervan69 · 09/05/2020 00:02

It was disappointing to me when they pretended the clearly female Linden was a boy. At first I was delighted with the lack of heavily made up "glamorous" female roles for once. Women with short hair. Shock horror.
