Just spotted this. May be rubbish. Made by Alex Garland who I think I am meant to know about.

I think it is sci-fi rather than crime, but seems to have a female lead ...

Yes it was pretty clear that Lyndon was actually female. I know the character was young, but 'his' voice would have broken by 19 and would have had stubble. Or was it something to do with trans?

Pretty horrible what happened to Lyndon anyway.

I loved this show, the sense of mystery, the beautiful sets and landscapes. I found the ending quite satisfying really.

But it certainly was full of complicated ideas, not sure I fully grasped them all!

I thought Lyndon was around 16 year old and an androgynous boy/girl.

Still working my way through the theories but they're enough to make your brain explode!

Pemba · 09/05/2020 12:52

It's mentioned in the dialogue that Lyndon is 19. The other characters say 'he' when referring to Lyndon, but 'he's' played by a 22 year old actress. We don't know why.

But I guess when your universe is predetermined /you're living in a computer simulation /you've created God or whatever the hell is going on, gender issues don't really matter!

stumbledin · 09/05/2020 16:43

They may have said "he" in woke tech land, but this was a female character.

Apparently it's a male character, played by a female actress. Why they didn't just make the character female is anybody's guess.

stumbledin · 09/05/2020 17:02

As i said up thread, that might have been the intention but it didn't work. Reviewers have referred to the character as she (in fact quite often I had to look twice to whether it was her of Lily on the screen).

There's a flaw in any sort of clever device that film makers go in for, if when viewed the audience just doesn't see.

And in a way its sad. To have a geeky boy is such a cliche. A geek girl is so much better.

Oh, right Confused. I read reviews referring to the character as male, I wonder what the scriptwriters were trying to achieve there??
