Appuskidu - I’ve seen that sort of pattern referred to as an “illusion dress” (e.g. on Pinterest).

Poshjock · 23/04/2020 21:12

One the features I loved from last year's thread is the posting of The Fold Line's pattern search vlog. It features pattern suggestions for the Tea dresses and also the wrap skirt.

So here it is for your enjoyment!

Carbosug · 23/04/2020 21:50

I don't think the sewers were up to previous years' standards. It seems to be more about 'characters' than genuine sewing ability this year
Shame. But it just had a cheap, reality TV feel about it.

Roussette · 23/04/2020 22:04

I disagree. I thought this lot were really good with lots of potential. I've seen a couple of forward clips and a couple of the outfits were fabulous.

SoupDragon · 23/04/2020 22:12

I also don't agree. I think they are definitely better than last year (In particular, I remember thinking they were poor last year).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/04/2020 00:21

I did think some of the alteration challenges looked a bit rubbish unfinished/messy, but it was the first one, so I suppose it's never going to be as good.

They've definitely done a challenge with shirts before, but I think they were patterned, which might have made it a bit easier?

june2007 · 24/04/2020 00:24

Loved some of those dresses.

MoltenLasagne · 24/04/2020 12:45

@Appuskidu As I hoped, the sew essential blog have got the patterns again. Not sure if they're all there but this might help you get started:

MonsteraCheeseplant · 24/04/2020 15:53

Oh gosh there are the patterns!

How difficult can a tea dress be?
Very difficult for a newbie like me I imagine.
But it could look super cute!

lynsey91 · 24/04/2020 16:39

Watching Next in Fashion now but too much talking for my liking and not enough sewing.

At the start all that talking themselves up I hated. Typical American. I doubt I will watch any more. I'll stick with Sewing Bee

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/04/2020 17:02

I found NIF started slowly, but it did get better lynsey

rosegoldwatcher · 24/04/2020 17:18

@SchadenfreudePersonified - Two most recent series of Project Runway is on Hulu.

Loved the white floral frock and the biker-chick's one.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/04/2020 17:59

I really want the pattern for the 90s grunge dress. I had one in navy from Dorothy Perkins and would so wear it now.

Didkdt · 24/04/2020 18:40

Has anyone seen the book yet?

Frenchfancy · 24/04/2020 18:47

@AndNoneForGretchenWieners this is the pattern for the grunge dress.

Anyone know who sells the faces fabric online?

VerbenaGirl · 24/04/2020 18:59

We’ve done a family sweepstake (lockdown desperation for a bit of excitement!), we have all chosen three contestants.

AMillionMugsNoTeabags · 24/04/2020 19:37

Just caught up with episode 1 and not RTFT (sorry) but moved to post - what’s with all the CHARACTERS and lack of just people-who-sew?

Also very London and Brighton/East Sussex centric. By my count, 1 Winchester, 1 Bradford, 1 Middlesbrough and 1 Kenilworth... and that’s it for non London/Brighton area... out of 12.

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/04/2020 19:38

Anyone know who sells the faces fabric online?
Minerva.

JasperRising · 24/04/2020 20:01

AMillionMugsNoTeabags my theory is that they have to have characters otherwise no one will remember who anyone is in the first weeks when there are so many of them...

AMillionMugsNoTeabags · 24/04/2020 21:29

Yeah, but they don’t ALL have to be such characters.

I’ve just been watching an old series - I’ve kept recordings- the one with the senior army officer and Lorna the retired air stewardess and the engineer who made clothes for his wife and kids but had only been sewing for a couple of years and Juliet the teacher and the young lad who wanted to study tailoring at college....all different, all characters, but not quite so caricature. And all better sewers too so far.

Carbosug · 24/04/2020 21:48

Couldn't agree more. I think this is in danger of losing its vintage, old fashioned comfort feel and just becoming another outlet for extrovert, 'wacky', looking for an adventure types.

Binglebong · 24/04/2020 22:57

For people in need of their Bee fix this book is set on a similar show. It's enjoyable fluff, although I was less keen on the sequel.

Halsall · 24/04/2020 23:47

@Cosyjimjamsforautumn here's the faces fabric, in various colourways - several other places have it online too.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/04/2020 00:08

Thank you frenchfancy!
