Duddy???? Diddy

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/04/2020 13:47

I have found a gallery of the contestants on BBC website

Thank you Unescorted - but I suspect that some of us (okay - me) will just use nicknames.

I already have DancerMan and Bletchley Park Wumman. I'll have others before long.

SoupDragon · 26/04/2020 13:52

I have saved a screenshot of the contestants onto my iPad

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/04/2020 14:10

Bletchley Park woman Grin
I already had 'dancing boy' and that's it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/04/2020 18:27

I imagine we've wasted a nickname because the odds are that he'll be gone next week Captain.

Grin
CaptainMyCaptain · 26/04/2020 20:15

I think so.

JasperRising · 27/04/2020 16:35

Not a question about the bee itself but as this thread attracts sewers, does anyone have any recommendations for shops that are currently selling fabric online?

GoldenKelpie · 27/04/2020 17:32

@LIZS do you think it might be an idea to start a new thread for each episode? Could make it easier to acces. Did we do this last year, or am I getting mixed up with the GoT threads (season 7)? Grin

LIZS · 27/04/2020 17:34

Could do, if there is sufficient interest.

I think there were separate threads last year - or was that Bake off?

Jasperthere are lots of places still selling fabric online. Minerva is a well known one but there are loads if you Google.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/04/2020 18:30

I'd be interested

Halsall · 27/04/2020 20:27

JasperRising not bargain basement prices but Fabric Godmother sells great fabrics and their service is excellent. Minerva's good, as Captain says, though it has a huge range and it's easy to get a bit dazed.

But there are loads more. I'm sure other people have favourite sites they could recommend.

JasperRising · 27/04/2020 22:35

Thanks for the shop suggestions. I do suffer from getting dazed with lots of choice and am not very good at visualising how a fabric will feel and drape from written description! The fabric godmother photos look good for showing that as far as possible online

SoupDragon · 28/04/2020 08:13

What was the website that was absolutely garish with bright flashing logos and stuff? Fabricland? There's another one that is always recommended that I keep thinking of as Azkaban but it clearly isn't that!

I'm currently making one of those Japanese over-the-head aprons out of fabric from my stash.

Didkdt · 28/04/2020 08:28

Stoff and Stil is lovely for fabric and you could loose yourself in their site
And Fabric Galore have supplied GBSB with fabric for past series their site is quite minimal compared to their stock
FabricLand has the wild coloured site

www.fabricsgalore.co.uk/

poundfabrics.co.uk/ (budget prices but never used them personally)

www.fabworks.co.uk/

B&M Fabrics - look on Facebook and order by phone, I can't do a link because it seems to link to my personal Facebook page

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/04/2020 09:18

guthrie-ghani.co.uk/

The suppliers I have mentioned are ones I have some knowledge of but there are loads out there. In normal times I usually get my fabric from market stalls or a budget shop near me. The other day I had a sewing day turning two old dresses into tops and shortening the sleeves on a top that was looking a bit frumpy. I might raid the sideboard for tablecloths before this thing is over. #sustainability

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/04/2020 09:27

I find it really hard to tell Ali and Fiona apart, they have the same hair which isn't helpful to someone with a bit of face blindness.

SoupDragon · 28/04/2020 09:35

I've just checked them on my contestant screenshot and they are so similar!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/04/2020 09:43

Yes, I was glad they sound very different!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/04/2020 09:54

Yes, it's helpful that they have different accents and they also move differently so when they're talking or walking I can tell, but there's quite a lot of sitting at a sewing machine action shots without conversations and I'm easily confused.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/04/2020 11:40

I definitely prefer it when we've got rid of a few. At least it's easier than Masterchef where they disappear for a couple of episodes and then come back!

Hopefully they'll choose very different fabrics then we can use those to identify them. Grin

IncrediblySadToo · 28/04/2020 20:06

3.5 hours for a skirt is quite long

I'd still be choosing the fabric 🤣

RomaineCalm · 29/04/2020 08:25

@Binglebong - thank you for the book recommendation. For a wet, lockdown afternoon it was perfect!
