100 kilo kids: obesity SOS

Its on channel 4 9pm tonight. I am just watching now. I was reluctant because I wondered if there was any hope for these young people with the advice and support they are being given at this hospital.

It upsets me greatly you see because I have been obese my whole teen and adult life up until I was 52 years old and I discovered the secret to losing excess fat and maintaining that loss permanently. Well, I'm 56 now, so four years.

She is ruining him. I am mad at her

Horehound · 04/03/2020 21:44

What the fuck are they doing? Clearly it won't work with the mum at home ffs

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/03/2020 21:45

Im watching and Tommy's mum is not helping him.

bobkate · 04/03/2020 21:45

That poor boy Sad.

GoldenKelpie · 04/03/2020 21:45

Digressing a bit, and talking about advice to diabetics, Type 1s are also encouraged to eat too many carbs but to just upp the insulin does to compensate.

I work at a school and supervise children with their checks. One is following Dr Richard Bernstein's protocol (google Typeonegrit) which is "the law of small numbers" i.e. eating low carb to minimise the rise in blood sugars and minimise the amount of insulin does needed. This child'd numbers are AMAZING, so level and stable. The others choose what ever they want to eat for lunch and dose accordingly. Ups and downs are inevitable. But that is what is advised. Crazy in my opinion.

I'm quite surprised that they're not tackling her more over it..... she's very clearly getting away with abusive behaviour.

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 04/03/2020 21:46

Why are they both laughing/smirking? She wants him to fail so she can say the hospital failed him.

bobkate · 04/03/2020 21:46

Tommy I mean. His mum is the root cause. How the doctors don't lose their shit I have no idea!

Cremebrule · 04/03/2020 21:47

There is clearly something more going on with the little girl the poor thing- that’s not just diet. They should really get rid of Tommy’s mum from the ward. She actively seems to be holding him back- although living on a ward would be depressing and boring for most people. I remember the old tv programmes about residential boot camps. It’s just really hard to watch him on self-destruct.

GoldenKelpie · 04/03/2020 21:47

That lad has been at the clinic for 18 months and put on 6 stone. Holy f**k.

That mother is killing her child. How can she be so stupid? Do mothers really have such a blinkered attitude to children's health?

Shortfeet · 04/03/2020 21:48

This is so painful to watch. Those poor children.

Horehound · 04/03/2020 21:48

Which lad??

ittooshallpass · 04/03/2020 21:48

Biazarre behaviour from Tommy's mum. Why won't she let the team help him?

Poor Harry. Don't know why they're asking him what he wants to do?! He hasn't got a clue how to control his diet. And now it's because his dad left the family... poor kid.

MamaRaisingBoys · 04/03/2020 21:49

Tommy and his mum clearly lying about food eaten over the weekend and smirking about it

Horehound · 04/03/2020 21:49

I don't think it's cause his dad left. I think it's because they are bored, allowed to play their Xbox for hours on end, given shit food and not told to go exercise

GoldenKelpie · 04/03/2020 21:50

That poor lad, he is so shamed and sad. He doesn't know what he should do. "Not eat his binge foods" is not an option, what else has he got? Not hope, that's for sure. I want to give him a hug and reassure him.

Yet another (low fat) balanced diet is in the offing. Ho wonder he is crying. He will fail, again. He knows it. They know it. Yet they still offer the same wrong advice over and over again.

Shortfeet · 04/03/2020 21:50

And these kids will have to go to school tomorrow and face classmates who will have seen the programme

Toria70 · 04/03/2020 21:51

There is a lot of interesting research on carb pairing for diabetics.... eating protein with a carb to balance the effect on your blood sugar.

GoldenKelpie · 04/03/2020 21:52

The lad's eating issues are not really to do with his dad. He could succeed with the right support to try LCHF as a different option. He won't be hungry doing that.

Think the little girl has Prada Willi or something similar.
The mother bringing in ready meals? Fuck her attitude stinks, social services need to step in.

HectorPlasm · 04/03/2020 21:54

Tommy's mother is awful - just blaming others and not looking at herself.

The Grandma and the other kid just represent how generations have changed so much.

GoldenKelpie · 04/03/2020 21:55

Horehound the one who had the surgery on his hip.

OP posts:
HectorPlasm · 04/03/2020 21:57

Ironic that so many of the doctors and nurses on the programme who are talking about nutrition are overweight themselves - honestly not criticising them, just observing.

Horehound · 04/03/2020 21:58

Wow glad he lost a stone but I think she did that so she could say hospital failed him..
