@SoupDragon

It's not "scare tactics" they had to do it. They did it with Holby too. One Covid episode then the rest post lockdown.
I don't think they had to do it.... it's not real... I want to put on the tv to forget real life stress! I don't think tv drama needs to acknowledge Covid. Miserable upsetting episode cause it is real and not for our entertainment
purpleme12 · 02/01/2021 20:37

I really like Noel will miss him 😓

Lellochip · 02/01/2021 20:43

This was filmed in the beginning of September, I wonder if they presumed we might be watching this back from a better position now Sad

SoupDragon · 02/01/2021 20:43

A medical drama programme that completely ignores Covid would be ridiculous though. As I said, Holby was the same. One hard hitting episode then business as usual (with added masks).

I think it was' yes. It was absolutely written with that assumption given the timing. 🙁

I thought it was a great episode, though I cried all the way through. The programme reflected what I think must be reality for many health care workers..

As others have said, it would be silly for a hospital drama to ignore the biggest health issue of our lives. I'm 70, so fortunately, the world wars don't figure in my actual life, though there were echoes via my parents and grand parents

MaryLeeOnHigh · 02/01/2021 20:53

Can’t believe people who switch on a drama set in a present-day A&E and moan that it depicts what goes on in present-day hospitals. Do you seriously expect them to show a nice fluffy programme where no-one gets seriously ill, the ward is fully staffed and they all go home at the end of a shift feeling well-rested and revitalised? It’s not as if there’s any shortage of escapist programmes elsewhere.

Chosennonesneakymincepie · 02/01/2021 20:53

Very hard to watch. But very well done IMO.
😪

Redglitter · 02/01/2021 20:55

That was very hard to watch but brilliantly done. They had to address it. The episode was so well done.

purpleme12 · 02/01/2021 20:57

So glad it's back!

Defenbaker · 02/01/2021 21:00

Tonight's episode was a hard watch, but I'm glad they did it, because maybe it will help to get the seriousness of the pandemic across to some sceptical/silly people who think it's all exaggerated. It's ironic that a drama might make the pandemic more real for some people than watching the news.

The make up was impressive, the acting was pretty good too. I could make some small criticisms, but won't, because I think they did a pretty good job overall.

Defenbaker · 02/01/2021 21:04

Skipsurvey said: "I want something light hearted"

Err, this is a wind up, right? Nobody tunes in to Casualty for comic relief, surely? Hmm

purpleme12 · 02/01/2021 21:05

😂

WestendVBroadway · 02/01/2021 21:15

Not an easy episode to watch, poor Noel but I suppose they had to kill of someone. I see Charlie actor has not taken any acting lessons while they have been off.Wink

Skipsurvey · 02/01/2021 21:19

Charlie is still wooden after so so many years

thegreylady · 02/01/2021 21:20

The most harrowing episode ever. I has left me feeling really shaken..
As a 76 year old asthmatic I would be terrified to go to hospital for any reason at the moment. I hope the vaccine comes here soon.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/01/2021 21:27

I sort of expected it to be hard hitting but it’s left me feeling quite upset and DD was quietly sobbing.

We’ve had to put some comedy on here to lighten the mood.

Defenbaker · 02/01/2021 21:30

@thegreylady I'm sorry if it's added to your fear of catching Covid, it's a worrying time for many people. Take care of yourself, take a vitamin D supplement (to help boost your immune system) and hang on in there, I'm sure you'll receive the vaccine soon.

SoupDragon · 02/01/2021 21:39

I've gone for old episodes of Find it, Fix it, Flog it.

EspressoExpresso · 02/01/2021 21:46
@expressoexpresso ooh good call!
My husband is having none of it, although is starting to come round to my thinking after I pointed out that Charlie was only in the background of scenes unless in a 1:1 "interaction" with someone.

Completely agree If you don't like it switch over pretty fucking simple
Mumdiva99 · 02/01/2021 22:01

I wasn't really enjoying it.....then they killed Noel!!!! WTF. Very emotional.

Peachyqueen · 02/01/2021 22:03

Oh for gods sake. All those "scare tactics" comments again. It may be Casualty but that episode was as close to real life at the moment as it gets.

yankeedoodledandee · 02/01/2021 22:20

I reckon that was the best episode of casualty ever made. It also blew every other 'return after covid' show out of the water.

Incredible work from everyone involved.

Womencanlift · 02/01/2021 22:28

For all those saying they shouldn’t have done it or wanted entertainment then why on earth did you watch it? It was clear from the TV guides it was covering covid and even if you didn’t read them did you honestly think a hospital drama would just ignore it?

If anything it should have been compulsory viewing for every idiot that has not worn a mask, protested for lockdown to be over or has denied this whole thing is a conspiracy

This and the Holby City episode was fantastic television and hopefully made those that ignore the news think a little bit more
