I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

@IsabelleSE19 re the checkpoint being changed - I interpreted that as a checkpoint later in the journey had to be changed, so we'll see it later in the series. Bit of a spoiler though.

Spudlet · 09/03/2020 11:03

Even if you don’t have language skills though... surely your first port of call would be either a bookshop for a phrase book, or tourist information, and ask an English speaker to help you out with some basic phrases? Even just things like knowing how to ask where the bus or train station is would be a good start, the word for a ticket, how to ask how much something costs... one of the teams asked for directions at a tourist information stand so they must be allowed to use them.

Hey ho. Easy to pick holes when you’re not the one doing it, I guess!

ACupOfCoffee · 09/03/2020 11:03

@IsabelleSE19, actually ignore me. It does say the first checkpoint, sorry. I read the article first thing this morning when I was still a bit dopey!

MaggieFS · 09/03/2020 11:12

I took the change of checkpoint thing to mean it had to be changed behind the scenes i.e. deviated from the producers original plan but finalised before the contestants were notified? Not very clear!

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 11:32

OH and DD are planning to do a mini version of this in the UK, based on the train fare but no train allowed.

That sounds great fun. Will they hitch hike and camp? From what I can see on C4 Hunted, people are very accommodating and helpful. They will probably have people offer to drive them to their destination! I’d love to do something like that.

English books can be hard to find in some places. The place to get it would be the initial city but they all want to take off in haste.

I think the mother and son working already is good forward planning. Last year the two guys travelling didn’t work until they literally ran out of money and the further they went, the pay decreased. They didn’t have money to pay for the entrance fee to the roof of the final destination. I still think choosing somewhere that they had to pay into was too ‘reality tv’ by the producers. Hopefully they won’t do that this time.

Be interesting to see how they do with the budget as they head south, Argentina and Chile are a lot more spendy than the rest, and Patagonia more so

PineappleDanish · 09/03/2020 15:25

Indeed. Especially as that pair blew three days budget on a taxi to get to a boat they couldn't catch anyway.

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 16:14

Peccary Oh really. I don’t know which countries are the more expensive. The black woman may well get used to camping by then!

CurbsideProphet · 09/03/2020 17:42

Interesting pairs this time. No friends, just couples and family members.

The mum and son are my favourites so far. I think she said something about doing it to give him confidence to do something similar on his own in the future.

I also like the married couple. It was quite sad to watch her talk about how different her husband is since losing his hearing and how he spends a lot of time on his own. I hope they get a lot of the experience.

The couple who are dating seem to find it difficult spending so much time together. He looks like he would prefer to be of adventuring on his own. I agreed with her that it was silly to leave all of their belongings unsecured in a tent in a stranger's garden!

LargeGinOnTap · 09/03/2020 18:23

Haven't got a clear favourite yet but suspect I will.

Some of the scenery looks amazing

georgedawes · 09/03/2020 18:54

Would anyone say the 1st series is suitable for a 10 year old? Iplayer saying it is for 16+

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 19:02

@ georgedawes I don’t know. Last year tempers frayed between the pairs and there was quite a bit of soul searching.

Did you watch last years?

The travelling part itself was fine though.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 09/03/2020 19:12

I think the tension may get a bit too much fir a 10yo.

georgedawes · 09/03/2020 19:20

It's last year's I'm wondering about, just watched the 1st episode of this series and she loved it.

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 19:47

Last year there was a father with his son. He was travelling to try to salvage his relationship with his son. He spoke about not being there for his son. He was quite snappy at times with him. I don’t know if it would be suitable for a ten year old. My children aren’t that age yet.

CurbsideProphet · 09/03/2020 19:53

@georgedawes the first series was on at 9pm if that makes a difference, depending on what time you normally let your DD watch TV?

georgedawes · 09/03/2020 20:05

ah thanks. We've watched the 1st one now and it was OK, but I'll watch the rest first myself to see.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/03/2020 20:32

Just finished ep1. Dh and I both love the Mum and Son and want them to win. We both, however, think the bro/sis will win.

Interesting dynamic this year with regards the political unrest etc. Adds a level of danger.

Wrongdissection · 09/03/2020 21:14

Me and DH said we’d love to do this. But in reality we’d kill each other 😂

CurbsideProphet · 09/03/2020 21:33

@Wrongdissection here's a real life version if you think you could manage without falling out Grin

I watch with my DCs (9&7). There can be the odd expletive... nothing worse than they've heard during a hairy moment in the car (I'm not too worried about an occasional swear in context).

They loved series 1, and were quite keen when I suggested interrailing in a few years when they're old enough to carry a decent size pack. DH and I went on a 3 month honeymoon across Asia and still came married Grin That was back in the days of internet cafés when a mobile phone was too logistically awkward to take.

I'm looking forwards to watching the relationships adapt to the experiences as well as the places themselves.

purpleme12 · 10/03/2020 00:01

It's now on a Tuesday at 7 as well

So they must think it's suitable for younger viewers

SleepingStandingUp · 10/03/2020 02:59

DH are in agreement we wouldn't do this together as our marriage or one of us wouldn't survive 😂😂.
Be interesting to see if it's kill or cure for the military guy and the Princess. I hope thry announce they're getting married at the end and do it there at the bottom of S America!!

TreeTopTim · 10/03/2020 05:10

I didn't watch the first series. May watch it at a later date.

I didn't know much about the programme but I was disappointed that it isn't actually around the world. The show should be called something else because it is very misleading.

Loved the mum and son team.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/03/2020 05:17

It's cos the first series kinda was
