Race Across the World series 2

I loved this show last year and was very excited to see a trailer yesterday that seemed to show series 2 was coming soon and was located in the Americas? But Googling it has revealed absolutely nothing! I thought I'd start this thread so that fellow fans have a place to comment when we have more info.

If it is the Americas, it will stop the contestants just copying last year's journeys, although I must admit I think the Europe/Asia route will prove more interesting as there's such a great variation in cultures as you travel east. But I don't know much about South America so looking forward to being wrong, and I'm sure it will be just as exciting as the last series. It'll be the people that make it - loved Darron and Alex from last year and their changing relationship/bond!

Love the Mum and Son too

ThursdayLastWeek · 08/03/2020 21:05

Oh haha I thought the sister was being a bit of a knob compared to her brother!

Loved this last time, enjoying it so far this time.

purpleme12 · 08/03/2020 21:07

Yes I thought there were some drama llamas too!

It's quite sad about Rob

PineappleDanish · 08/03/2020 21:11

Love this orogramme. Already predict that the uncle and nephew will run out of money, they haven't a clue.

The brother and sister seem lovely.

claracluck78 · 08/03/2020 21:14

I've just challenged DP to do this with me in 12 years time when our kids are 18! Me and DS1 v DP and DS2!

I missed why the brother and sister had a refund for their hotel - did anyone catch that but?

Spudlet · 08/03/2020 21:17

There was a hole in the roof and they got flooded when it rained, all their stuff was soaked!

JustDanceAddict · 08/03/2020 21:19

Never seen it before but really enjoyed it.
Faves are the mum and son and siblings so far.

purpleme12 · 08/03/2020 21:23

I'm not sure what to think either way about the brother and sister yet so reserving judgment

IsabelleSE19 · 08/03/2020 21:33

I love it again Grin

No clear favourites yet but I was so pleased for the mum and son coming first - and they'd even fitted in some work which makes it all the more impressive.

I get real Darron and Alex vibes off the uncle and nephew - the uncle thinks they should do it all his way, but the nephew will start to realise that older isn't always wiser!

Like last year I'm enjoying seeing all the less familiar places. Belize looked beautiful!

I think that the brother and sister will go on a similar journey with their relationship, as the father and son last series.

Wrongdissection · 08/03/2020 22:30

I quite liked the brother and sister duo. I would be like the sister, ‘just give me time to be angry and I’ll pull myself round’ 😂. The uncle and nephew seem hopeless but I suspect once the nephew gets a bit more confidence and takes control they will improve. I liked the mother/son as well.

claracluck78 · 08/03/2020 22:50

Thanks Spudlet

mouldygrapes · 08/03/2020 23:17

I didn’t see the first series but loved watching this tonight. Lovely Sunday night viewing, and it’s made me desperately want to book a holiday!

theschoolonthehill · 08/03/2020 23:23

I’ was sucked right in from the opening scenes. I like the brother and sister. I liked the mum and son too. I was astounded when she said she was old at 54.

They are visiting very interesting places. I’d love to put a backpack on and take off.

IHadADreamWhichWasNotAllADream · 08/03/2020 23:31

I loved the last series and it really made me want to explore the hidden corners of Central and South East Asia. But having read the Guardian behind the scenes glimpse at this series confirms my previous resolve to never ever go anywhere near Central/South America - however pretty.

I know IABU, I’m sure there are some areas that are both lovely and safe, but there are a hell of a lot that aren’t, especially in Central America. Staggered they got the risk assessment signed off.

Really looking forward to the rest of the series though, safe in the knowledge that everyone came home safe and sound.

purpleme12 · 09/03/2020 07:24

Really interesting reading that

megletthesecond · 09/03/2020 09:07

Good article Ihad 👍.

theschoolonthehill · 09/03/2020 09:25

Interesting article. DH would never even contemplate the countries Mexico City or Guatemala due to the high risk. I’d go though.

Does anyone know when they get to their first location, fo they get to stay in the hotel they sign into free of charge for the night? And what happens if one of them gets ill? I know they can pull out of course but is there a medic they can talk to if something goes wrong that isn’t a complete emergency but needs medical attention? The healthcare wouldn’t be the best in some places?

MaggieFS · 09/03/2020 09:31

I'm pleased I've found this thread - never heard of the programme before and missed the first 20 minutes but I've spent a lot of time backpacking in South America, would love to have done something like this!

What are the rules? I assume no mobiles/internet? Seems like they were given some starting cash and have to earn on the way? I guess no flights?

IsabelleSE19 · 09/03/2020 09:34

Interesting article (although many idiotic comments BTL). I didn't really understand what it meant about the first checkpoint being changed – so the hotel they ended up in was in a different place to the ruins place they were supposed to be going to?

OP posts:
IsabelleSE19 · 09/03/2020 09:36

Maggie Yes, no flights, phones or credit cards, and their budget is the amount of cash that a single flight between their start and end point would cost.

The first series is on iplayer if you want a binge - I'm sorely tempted to watch it again myself in the week-long wait for the next episode of series 2!

MaggieFS · 09/03/2020 09:56

Thanks @IsabelleSE19 wish you'd never told me about series one... that's my free time this week gone.

Just read the article too. In a pre-DS former life, I'd have given anything to be that recce person. What a job! Nothing in the article would have put me off.

motherofawhirlwind · 09/03/2020 10:02

OH and DD are planning to do a mini version of this in the UK, based on the train fare but no train allowed.

IsabelleSE19 · 09/03/2020 10:12

Maggie You're very welcome Grin. The first series was London to Singapore.

mother Wow, that sounds amazing - they should blog it!

I would have done well last night - my degree is Spanish so I would have had no trouble speaking to people. I get the impression they've weeded our applicants with language skills though. 28 hours on a bus though... no thanks
