Anyone? I’m ten minutes in and not sure.

I think that I wish this was set in Britain.

Great cliff-hanger at the end of the series.

What a car crash of a programme, it really shouldn't have been made, let alone aired.

One thing in Amber’s favour though, is that Barnett’s dog seems to love her. That makes me think she can’t be all bad Grin

Damian is creeping me out the more I watch. I just watched his restaurant “chat” with Giannina where he starts telling her all the things he doesn’t like about her and how he’s had to suppress himself. The whole “I didn’t say it before because I wanted you to be yourself but actually I hate this about you and you’re going to have to change.” I found it really manipulative and the fact that she said she was going to change herself to make him love her more - I’m here 20 years older yelling at her that if he doesn’t like who she is, don’t change, just run and find someone better for you!

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 21/02/2020 14:13

Oh thank you eine that makes sense then! I was wondering why his family looked so calm even though she called him completely the wrong name!

mnahmnah · 21/02/2020 14:17

Giannina needs to grow up and calm down a bit before marrying anyone! She’s 25. She needs to go have her wild years. Definitely not ready to settle down

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/02/2020 14:22

Cliffhanger at the end of the series

Certainly not! New episodes next Thursday!

ParsnipToast · 21/02/2020 14:23

I feel like given some time, Mark could be a poster boy for coercive control. It just feels like he could do all that subtle manipulative stuff.

I really don't understand why Jessica went on the programme as (when she's not drunk) she seems to sensible to believe in this instant love stuff.

SeaViewBliss · 21/02/2020 14:31

I’m finding all the men except Kenny a bit off. I definitely get a controlling vibe from Mark and Cameron.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/02/2020 14:34

RE Mark

I feel like pretty much any other man would have thrown his hands up and said Enough Is Enough by now. It IS odd, that he hasn't.

ParsnipToast · 21/02/2020 14:37

Does anyone else also get the vibe that Barnett is actually a bit terrified of Jessica?

ParsnipToast · 21/02/2020 14:44

OMG, Damian at Barnett's party is terrifying. Gigi is a bit fiery but he was totally gas lighting her.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/02/2020 14:50

Their later conversation about politics is also really damning for Damien I think.

mnahmnah · 21/02/2020 14:52

Is it clarified after episode 7 what the whole politics thing with Damian and giannina is then? In episode 7 it’s alluded to but she starts saying about sending money back to Venezuela.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 21/02/2020 14:54

That was sinister. He seemed annoyed that she wouldn’t change her views just because he told her to change them.

That plus the “I haven’t done anything wrong, you’re just self-sabotaging like you always do.”

Motherfucker, as Giannina would say Wink

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/02/2020 14:54

Presumably she is a Democrat and he's a Republican, that's the impression I took. He would like her to change. Republicans tend to be anti-immigration which is ironic.

bugbhaer · 21/02/2020 14:57

The whole “I didn’t say it before because I wanted you to be yourself but actually I hate this about you and you’re going to have to change.” I found it really manipulative and the fact that she said she was going to change herself to make him love her more

It all seems fairly typical in the US though. They seem more touchy-feels about their feelings.

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit

Yes that’s the impression I got too. Just wondering if he’s more explicit about it later. His family sound delightful too, saying he’d better not marry a ‘reality tv whore’ and refusing to meet her!

Horehound · 21/02/2020 15:14

God it is bad. Jessica is bad but I think amber is worse. She is always in Barnett's face

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/02/2020 15:20

Just said on the other thread that on reflection the majority of participants have serious issues and are therefore attracted to this shortcut to the social status of marriage because they can't achieve it the traditional way.

I also think several participants :

Jessica, Amber, Gigi, Carlton,

Would not have passed a proper psychological vetting if they did one

ParsnipToast · 21/02/2020 15:57

Barnett's family look horrified by Amber.

northernlittledonkey · 21/02/2020 16:12

I've just watched the remaining available episodes. So, awkward and car crash. Really not sure any of them are stable, except for Barnett at least he seemed honest about his demons. Although I think Amber is a nutter.

bugbhaer · 21/02/2020 16:12

I agree @EineReiseDurchDieZeit I’d love to know more about the production process and ethics of it all.

I think the only one who is even slightly grounded is Lauren.

OP posts:
SavageBeauty73 · 21/02/2020 16:46

Barnett is one of the only normal ones!

Nikhedonia · 21/02/2020 17:12

Ahh! I'm so glad I found a thread on this. Can I join?

I didn't like Barnett at first but he's really growing on me and I wish he and Jessica liked each other equally.

Kelly and Kenny seem sweet, as do Cameron and Lauren. I'm not sure Lauren will be able to get past the interracial relationship issue at this point. I think she might back out at the alter, but ask to remain in a couple.

Mark needs to leave, why is he staying?!?! Jessica said to her friends that they were having sex but I didn't see anything to suggest that was true?

NoGravyForYou · 21/02/2020 18:23

Mark talks to Kenny about them having sex at the stag do. He says once they did that that things have improved.

mnahmnah · 21/02/2020 18:31

Urgh the thought of sex with mark makes my skin crawl
