Back on BBC iPlayer on Monday at 7.00pm.

Bittersweet as it will be the final series, and will also incorporate a tribute to Slugs / Michael Sleggs.

This series is fabulous. The Coopers are understated geniuses. I'm so sad that there are only two episodes left.

I loved 'the Office '( English version) but this even trumps that! It really is a masterclass in acting and writing. Didn't clock it was Mackenzie as the mysterious Ray! The video was exactly like ones my dh tried to film at the kids birthday parties etc (and they all came out pretty ropey too! )
I do hope they both go on to other things and become national treasures because they deserve it all. The others are great too.

icelolly99 · 10/03/2020 20:56

Mackenzie Crook....genius casting as Charlie Cooper was described as "a poor man's Mackenzie Crook" by Daisy. Now we need to work out who the A list actress is playing Kurtans Nan.....

The80sweregreat · 10/03/2020 20:59

Nan might be June Whitfield? ?

I did lol when Sue said ' Ray was dull as ditch water' : not funny really , but just the delivery! Sue tells it like it is.
Loved seeing the little ones playing video games. That little segment was perfectly done. So clever.

MockneyReject · 10/03/2020 21:04

Just watched the latest episode on i-player. I was laughing within seconds - the suit run down.
The writing, the characters, the observation, the delivery - it is perfect, isn't it?

mizu · 10/03/2020 21:38

Yep. Another perfect episode. He had polio. Try dancing when your knees are back to front. Agony. GrinGrinGrin

icelolly99 · 10/03/2020 22:56

June Whitfield died in December 2018 so it can't be her......

Cheekyfuckerslastnerve · 10/03/2020 22:59

"Shoes. Cats Protection League"Grin

Booboooo · 10/03/2020 23:10

Heard the nan was tilda swinton?

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2020 09:17

I'd forgotten that June Whitfield died!
Sorry!
I was just thinking of older grey haired ladies!
Unless it's a wig of course!

TheTruthAboutLove · 11/03/2020 17:07

The only thing that would have made that home VHS any better would be Kurtan and his Nan talking about their suicide pact as they were so worried about the millennium bug (as he said in one of the earlier series’)

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2020 18:10

Kurtan's nan is funny. Her rant on the doorstep was hysterical!

lolaflores · 11/03/2020 18:20

The polio line. They just drop gold bars every 4 lines and swish on past. I have watched a few inter views and they had a long struggle of hard tack and biscuits. No money to get to auditions but just let their imaginations go wild as they did cleaning jobs. Love their determination. I would have given up straight out of the gate. Wonder where they will turn up next?

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2020 18:28

They are grafters for sure and quite humble in interviews. I hope fame doesn't alter them too much but I don't think it will. They seem grounded. The episodes get better and better. You can see the improvements since series one.
I wish them well and hope they can write something else soon.

megletthesecond · 12/03/2020 16:42

I can't walk past TK Maxx without smirking like a weirdo now.

megletthesecond · 12/03/2020 16:47

I'm still series 2. Minor injuries 😂.

MadisonAvenue · 12/03/2020 17:31

meglet You shouldn't be walking past TKMaxx, you should be going in to get the bargains you deserve (as long as it's the first Saturday of the month) 😜

thesuninsagittarius · 13/03/2020 13:47

I love them. These episodes bear watching again and again. I'm in a Facebook group for fans, where we all quote bits at each other, and lovely Paul Cooper replied to a post I made. I am very sad that it's the last series but on the other hand I think it's best if it goes out as perfectly as it started. The combination of humanity, pathos, perfect comedy timing and wonderfully written dialogue is just awe inspiring.
I love the characters looks to camera and Mandy's expression of enraged bafflement. Just wonderful. There is not much comedy that I enjoy these days; This Country is very realistic, maybe that's why it's so good.

Beautifully put.

motorcyclenumptiness · 13/03/2020 21:01

Kerry's slow realisation that her Dad is the shit everyone says he is is so sad but so brilliantly portrayed. I love where she compares him to Henry VIII: At first you think O Catherine of Aragon's got a screw loose or Anne Boleyn seems like a bit of a psychopath but by the time you get to Catherine Parr you do start to wonder whether the problem might lie with Henry.

EachandEveryone · 13/03/2020 21:09

Ive got a TK Maxx opening a five minute walk away next week 😃

Mrhodgeymaheg · 13/03/2020 21:13

I will miss this when it's finished. It's been a great series so far too. It kind if reminds me of detectorists, it's very simple and uncomplicated, but with some great scenery, although This Country is more laugh out loud funny.

Would Mandy work in Detectorists?

salsmum · 14/03/2020 00:01

I spoke to my did the other day on the phone and mentioned This country when it was back on ( we have similar SOH) he said erm... yeah I watched one episode but I just don't get it Confused so sad we're in such an exclusive 'love it' club.
