Just caught up then realised the thread was full.

Sister Monica joan’s flowers.

Cried like a seal.

My garden didn’t bloom and for me the sunshine failed. My buds were perfect but not for here.

And the hairy bud who grew and blossomed in my care soaked up the love.

Missing the three of you more than you know. X

When I was at Primary school in the 70s, the Y4 teacher -or second year Juniors as it was back then- always had a pipe on the go and would teach PE in his tweed suit while puffing away on his pipe. When I started teaching in 1989, 2 of the teachers would happily light up in the staffroom during breaks and lunch. Hard to imagine now.

BikeRunSki · 19/02/2020 16:07

Distant friend of my dads dyed of lung cancer, and continued to smoke. Her reasoning being that the worst had happened.

OutComeTheWolves · 19/02/2020 17:04

I think smoking is one of those things that culturally has changed incredibly quickly.
I don't think I'm very old but I can remember people smoking in nightclubs, in restaurants and on buses. The indoor smoking ban changed its acceptance overnight imo.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/02/2020 18:10

My dad recently said that if he makes it to 80 (he’s early 70s) he’s going to start smoking again because why the fuck not.

He used to smoke 40 a day!

ParsnipToast · 19/02/2020 20:46

Even right before the smoking ban came in, people in the pub I worked in used to complain that you couldn’t smoke at the bar. They couldn’t face the few minutes it took to order their drinks.

It’s amazing how quickly we all got used to it. I used to have to shower when I got home from a night out because I couldn’t stand stinking of smoke. And you could never wear an outfit twice without washing it in between.

FlamingoAndJohn · 19/02/2020 21:46

If you went out, even just to the pub for a quiet drink, you had to factor in washing your hair afterwards.

ppeatfruit · 20/02/2020 08:36

Bike I bet she was cremated (sorry not funny but I couldn't resist ).

Winterfishing · 20/02/2020 09:12

Looks like Dr Mansplainer is trying out a second Acting Face...

FlamingoAndJohn · 20/02/2020 09:14

Dh wants them to replace him for just one shot with one of his brothers. Just for fun.

TheSquitz · 20/02/2020 12:06

I love Dr Mansplainer! I like his 'lived in' face.

NumbersStation · 20/02/2020 12:16

Lived in? Taken over by a bunch of hairy squatters and some mice lived in maybe...

Sunday's is the last episode in this season, isn't it?

FrostyBamboo · 20/02/2020 16:21

How old is he?

FrostyBamboo · 20/02/2020 16:28

Bloody hell there's 4 of him and they all have slight variations on Acting Face

Squigean · 20/02/2020 16:54

I think they might have all been togethe in a series years ago. If it wasn't all four it was three.

There's a sister too.

Squigean · 20/02/2020 16:57

Yes, all four!!

The Hanging Gale
Cast: Joe McGann, Mark McGann, Paul McGann, Stephen McGann...

'Over three hours of wonderful drama' Hmm

AppleKatie · 20/02/2020 17:12

Has anyone seen it? It doesn’t look promising.

Saucery · 20/02/2020 17:17

It was dire. And I was a biiiig fan of the McGann Brothers too, so I tried really hard to like it. Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 20/02/2020 17:45

Pebble Its the people parked outside the hospital door under the no smoking sign in their wheelchairs usually with a drip attached, puffing away.
I know I really shouldn't but it always makes me laugh.

Happens in my hospital too. Also had people with chests sounding like a sewer and on oxygen smoking outside main entrance.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/02/2020 19:04

Come on, Paul McGann is a terrific actor. Withnail and I is one of my all-time favourite films.

Saucery · 20/02/2020 19:07

He was good in that, Gaspode and also The Monocled Mutineer. He has gone rather mumbly these days.
I think one of the brothers realised he couldn’t actually act and went off to do something else iirc.

Orchidflower1 · 20/02/2020 20:01

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes this Sunday’s is the last. In my head ctm gets me through the “dark” winter months and now the evenings are getting a bit lighter.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 20/02/2020 20:48

I think it’s lost the grittiness of the earlier episodes.

I tend to get the Mcganns mixed up Blush

ppeatfruit · 21/02/2020 08:59

CanIhave How gritty do you want it? I thought that the blind girl and the glass, plus the abusive husband and stirrup birth were 'gritty' enough. remember it starts at 8pm.
