not sure it would be appropriate to ogle a high ranking Nazi official!

It most certainly isn't, but I made an exception for Rufus.

Saucery · 12/02/2020 15:35

What have they done to Bertie Carvel? Shock . It shouldn’t be allowed

cologne4711 · 12/02/2020 18:17

It most certainly isn't, but I made an exception for Rufus Ha ha.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/02/2020 16:52

As usual the film/series strays from the book

V1Rotate · 15/02/2020 19:06

Ye gods, Rufus Sewell is one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen.

OneOfTheGrundys · 16/02/2020 07:38

It was all very enjoyable. I’m looking forward to settling down with this again tonight.
I also remember Sewell as Ladislaw (A Level Middlemarch) and he was hot then and is still hot now.
I think not having read the book is perhaps rather an advantage to enjoyment of this. In and of itself I find it fab TV... not looking too hard at the details though!
(Never seen a village like that fictional golden-stoned Much Deeping in the South East!)

GCAcademic · 16/02/2020 09:27

I was pleasantly surprised, especially as I’d hated the last three BBC Christies (though And Then There Were None was excellent). I haven’t read the book so am not distracted by noticing the plot changes. I thought it was very well-filmed, with very striking mise-en-scene at key moments.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/02/2020 12:31

And Then There Were None was indeed absolutely excellent. Aidan Turner .... Rufus Sewell ...

stumbledin · 16/02/2020 19:10

I haven't ever read an Agatha Christie! But thanks to the BBC R4extra have heard many of them.

I think they have a far harder edge than the cosy style the early tv series of both Poirot and Marple, and was well aware that life wasn't all apple pie and cream (eg her own first marriage).

Also she wrote into the 50s & 60s so aren't sure why this setting for this interpretation is a problem. But do think it seems to be another of those dramas where they are trying to impose 2020 sensibilities. I suspect the main character is a real shit!

Slightly off topic but my memory of the last Poirot in the tv series was very dark (I dont just mean the lighting!) and depressing. Does anyone know if this is true to the book?

AnyFucker · 16/02/2020 21:37

.

Robin2323 · 16/02/2020 21:38

Sewell is lovely.

Especially liked him in the Tourist

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 16/02/2020 22:02

......uuuuum: can anyone explain the ending? He's doomed to dream of his wife's death indefinitely...??

Christmastree43 · 16/02/2020 22:03

I would also like an explanation 🤣

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 16/02/2020 22:04

@stumbledin: are you thinking of the ABC Murders? That definitely took some liberties with the book/created a (I thought credible/interesting) backstory for Poirot ... but also made a few changes to up the sexy/dark tone which I was somewhat less forgingiin of (BDSM echoes)

KimikosDreamHouse · 16/02/2020 22:04

can anyone explain the ending? He's doomed to dream of his wife's death indefinitely...??

Seconding this request. I read the book decades ago and am intending re-reading it but I have no idea what happened.

hapagirl · 16/02/2020 22:04

I immediately came on here in the hopes that someone is cleverer than me and can explain the end!

FadedRed · 16/02/2020 22:07

Err...what just happened? Am I being a tad dense (I’ve not been very well recently), but I’m none the wiser about what all that was about.

AnyFucker · 16/02/2020 22:10

I enjoyed the 1st episode

The 2nd was shite

WhiskersPete · 16/02/2020 22:11

Hmmm. Not a clue about that ending.

ColleysMill · 16/02/2020 22:12

Oh good i wasnt the only one who didnt understand the ending Grin

Sewrainbow · 16/02/2020 22:12

I didn't get the end either..... has the wife plotted for his death with the 3 witches?

missyB1 · 16/02/2020 22:13

I didn’t understand it either 🤔
