No mention of Jelena.

PrivateSpidey · 02/02/2020 13:15

pointing at things and ranting to himself
Grin not too sorry I missed that!

Raahh · 02/02/2020 13:23

I went straight after match point too. The corporate stuff annoys me too.

Fizzywinegum · 02/02/2020 14:10

I’ve not seen Jelena for a while Jane - I don’t think she was at Wimbledon either - if anything is going on it doesn’t seem to be affecting his game

BGD2012 · 02/02/2020 14:11

Ah well he is back at Number One again now. Where is his wife?

unique1986 · 02/02/2020 14:12

What's happened to Thiems hair? How could he do that ewww

kazzaD66 · 02/02/2020 15:41

Bugger!
Was out at the local farmers market this morning and score watching when I got back. Don't know if I can be arsed to watch the highlights back. Hmm

DH currently watching the rugby and that's going tits up aswell.
I do love Nigel Owens though, although he hasn't needed to come out with some of his brilliant gems yet Grin

magimedi · 02/02/2020 16:40

Boo! Hiss! Just finished watching the highlights & I had such great hopes for Dom.

I think the umpire was right re the time violation. WTF is the point of having a clock if it is ignored? And John Lloyd said umpires get into trouble now if they don't give a warning when the clock reads 0.

Would love to know where Djock's wife has vanished to.

Looking forward to the French Open now - am assuming that C4 still have it?

Fizzywinegum · 02/02/2020 17:50

Just watched the speeches on the BBC highlights programme - Djok seemed in quite a sombre and reflective mood. He talked about the bush fires, Kobe Bryant and how we all need to come together.

I’ve definitely fallen out with AC - he’s already predicting Thiem to beat Rafa at the French in five sets - I think it’s usually on ITV4 magi but then we have to put up with John Inverdale Hmm

The umpires at the AO seem to have been pretty consistent with the time rule - which I suppose is how it should be although there are some times when the crowds are very noisy or there’s been a long rally where the rule doesn’t seem particularly fair.

DH is still not back from watching rugby at the pub - should I be worried?Grin

PrivateSpidey · 02/02/2020 18:13

Pfftt. If AC predicts it, the opposite should happen!!

They are just saying on the Tennis Podcast that US Open is the least predictable this year because the Olympics is right before it (and Thiem said he's not playing in Tokyo iirc?).

Anyway. That's a little while off Grin plenty more tennis to be played before then etc etc.

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/02/2020 18:32

What does AC know? If he had anything to with the French Open, all he would care about would be the walnut seats.Grin

Raahh · 02/02/2020 18:37

By the US open, they will have played so much- it's not surprising it will be hard to predict. I wonder what Federer will do, schedule wise, if he plans to go to Tokyo? The summer is going to be a packed one, that's for sure.

I wonder why Dom wouldn't want to go to Tokyo? But- in a way I can understand it. I love watching tennis- any tennis- but for players, it is not the same as is it is for the 100 metre runners who have trained for this, and it is the pinnacle of their sport. The Olympics (tennis wise) is a small field- it is not a slam, and maybe some players feel they need to draw the line somewhere.

PrivateSpidey · 02/02/2020 19:27

Yes and Thiem usually plays so many tournaments anyway, perhaps he thinks the Olympics is a stretch too far?

I agree Raahh, obviously I love and watch most tennis that's on, but there are definitely too many tournaments.

I'm sure Fed will be there, won't he? And Djok, surely both of them will be keen to add singles gold to their GOAT credentials Hmm

How was Nigel Owens kazza? Grin My DH didn't watch, as he's already watched about 5 rugby matches this weekend. Hmm We ended up watching "Richie Rich" instead Grin

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 02/02/2020 19:32

all he would care about would be the walnut seats
Grin he can spend hours musing on them

JaneJeffer · 02/02/2020 19:38

I remember taking my little cousin to see that in the cinema back in the day Private!

Fizzywinegum · 02/02/2020 19:38

I think I would rather watch Richie Rich instead of rugby Spidey (just about!) Grin Tennis is the only sport that I watch.

I’d forgotten about the walnut seats at RG - I wonder if they’ve aged at all - they did look a bit light (AC would know Grin)

kazzaD66 · 02/02/2020 19:41

Nigel wasn't given too many opportunities to roll out some of his gems private

Such as....."Can I introduce myself. I'm the referee."
And..."If you want to act like that, go and play football. This is rugby. Now behave. "

Grin
JaneJeffer · 02/02/2020 19:43

Sport is all that's been on here today; tennis, hurling, rugby, football! I will watch any sport except golf or snooker.

PrivateSpidey · 02/02/2020 19:46

Grin I forgot about AC's seat obsession. Why does he talk about such random stuff that is literally irrelevant to anyone watching on TV?!

It does give us a laugh I suppose Grin

Richie Rich had the most ridiculous ending Hmm which I'd forgotten about, where the Rich family escape by climbing down a Mt Rushmore style cliff featuring their own faces Confused

I'll stop now, I'm getting as bad as AC (surely not)!!

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 02/02/2020 19:47

kazza Grin

Love it.

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 02/02/2020 20:21

He talks about random stuff private because he knows bugger all about tennis and is a prat.

And he doesn't make me laugh.

He makes me want to throw something at the television.
But that's my problem Grin

magimedi · 02/02/2020 22:14

John Inverdale is 10 x worse than Ac:

Discuss!

Raahh · 03/02/2020 17:41

Magi Grin

You have probably got a point. He has an aversion to calling Nadal by name, preferring to refer to him as 'The Spaniard' All.The.Time. This annoys me a lot, as I find it very rude.

But he is very rude.

Raahh · 03/02/2020 17:43

Anyway, I hope everyone has had a good day, with no tennis. I would like to say I was productive. Apart from the fact the fact the dog got a decent walk earlier than he has done of late- I didn't do much Grin.

And dh worked from home. Which got on my nerves. Grin.

PrivateSpidey · 03/02/2020 19:39

Grin magi you sound so enthusiastic about a discussion of those two beloved commentators!! You definitely have a point though.

kazza I should have clarified that our discussion of AC's commentary makes me laugh, rather than the commentary itself Grin

I feel a bit treacherous saying this, but I haven't missed the tennis as much as I thought I would today. I don't know why. Probably because of Djok winning the men's yet again (even though I expected it 100% even before the tournament started Hmm).

I may have watched one or two Delpo rehab videos to make up for it.
Grin

Btw did anyone see the photos of Kenin's dress in her trophy photoshoot? It was amazing Shock
