OK it's always been easy watching but it has hit a new low
Jack, well he can only act himself can't he. He can't pull off the geeky, clever nerd. The grieving husband act his cringing
Ruby, the girlfriend they are beyond terrible

So they are w just rehashing every story line
White detective who hates the place. Young cop with pregnant wife, they've added an extra baby and an incredible maternity service that tells you how many babies the day after testing. But husband not present at the scanHmm
I guess next year we will see white man who hates the sun and sand and a young cop whos wife is having triplets
One extra baby each year

This is getting dire. I used to love this programme but the new detective is awful. It’s just not funny. And I agree why is it always a white male that’s the inspector? What’s wrong with a female or heaven forbid promoting a local?

Yes all wear jackets ties and trousers in the carribean while the locals wear strappy tops

2nd one Christ by ads wore jazzy local shirts

But yes as I said previously get someone who wants do be there

They all seem to be single childless except aiden who had almost adult children

Bring a family over

That has to be the most convoluted plot ever! It's bonkers but I like Ralf Little so will continue to watch. Harry needs a bigger role.

It's probably too complicated/expensive to bring children over for the filming schedule.

I'm going to give Ralph the benefit of the doubt - I didn't much like the other two at the start but they grew on me.

Harry absolutely needs more screen time. As he isn't real he will do whatever they tell him so he is easy to direct!

It's just silly formulaic escapism. Just like Midsomer, Murder She Wrote, etc. etc. etc.

Will be interesting to see how the new guy pans out.

Ruby is growing on me.

The 2nd in command (forgotten her name) is annoying.

Interestingly the times tv pages for the week have a side note to the writers to say that the constant scratching etc could get old very quickly.

In practical terms, I always presumed that the British lead detective and French second in command detective was down to the production companies/countries funding the project...

In terms of in series logic, Saint Marie is supposed to be a British overseas territory, which I assume is why the call on British police help, but one that used to be a French territory, hence the French second in command I guess.

Of course none of this explains why the British detective (who patently doesn't want to be there but changes his mind) has to be a white male... At least the Mallorca Files mixed it up with a white female detective (who patently doesn't want to be there but changes her mind).

@SoupDragon I think Harry should find a mate and have cute lizard babies. That I would tune in for!

SoupDragon · 15/02/2020 14:24

Twins maybe...

@soupdragon what do you mean Harry isn’t real 🙀🙀🙀😂😂😂

I hate to break it to you but he's a CGI lizard... Up until I saw some of the actors a few years back on the One Show I assumed he was just well trained. Blush

Noooooooooooo

Ooh, I would love to have a trained lizard!

I was stupidly sad when I found out that Harry is CGI.

I don't like the new second in command and also cant remember her name. She doesn't add anything to the series. Not that we need any more wacky eccentric characters and the new policeman is annoyingly neurotic. I love Catherine

I thought the superintendent was rude and why should the new detective be responsible for his boat when he was on police business

Report
SoupDragon · 15/02/2020 22:09

Actually, all this complaining about the lead being a white man who doesn't want to be there and the second in command is a black female who doesn't want to be there...

@TulipCat seems they read the thread and copied you Grin

I'm really missing Duane, it's lacking a character that's "streetwise" with lots of experience of the island. Not a fan of Madeleine either she's too bland.

Camille had that world weary expert keeping the inspector on point thing.

I'm loving ruby though, I was actually moved to tears tonight by her development. Love the relationship with "uncle selwyn"

Think they were right to go back to a "fish out of water" dynamic with the new inspector who I am actually liking.

Inspectors in order of preference

Kris Marshall
Ben Miller
Ralf little
Ardal o'hanlon

I like ardal as an actor usually and even as a person but he struggled with this

@Graphista ha! Maybe they should give me a job as a scriptwriter!

Watched the last two episodes today, and enjoying them. Okay, the plots are a bit convoluted, and they seemingly can weave a huge storyline out of an insignificant object.

In this series, they seem to be a slight shift in direction, with there being more storylines about the characters. They’ve also deconstructed the main elements of Death in Paradise - ie, inspector doesn’t want to be there, can’t stand the heat, doesn’t like Harry etc.

I think Ralf Little is doing a good job.

Finding it intensely irritating now - it's all about his rashes and allergies.

Report
jay55 · 23/02/2020 12:34

I find the rash stuff annoying because it gives me phantom itchyness through the rest of the episode.
