OK it's always been easy watching but it has hit a new low
Jack, well he can only act himself can't he. He can't pull off the geeky, clever nerd. The grieving husband act his cringing
Ruby, the girlfriend they are beyond terrible

So glad Ruby isn't coming back for the next series... She ruined it for me!

Never watched DiP before, but have been watching an episode each day with dd(12) over the last few weeks, and we love it! It's great family viewing, something dd and I can enjoy together with no overt violence/sex, and has been welcome escapism from the current circumstances (I've even googled holidays in Guadaloupe Blush). We've just reached the end of the Kris Marshall years, and I was so sorry to see him go as I thought he was great, and don't rate Ardal in the role at all, for all the reasons pp have said above. DD doesn't have any preconceptions of him, so is trying to convince me he's just Humphrey with an Irish accent!

Love Dwayne and JP; was sorry to see Camille go but Florence has grown on me. Wish Catherine would mention her occasionally though - in rl they'd be asking how she's getting on. Enjoy seeing all the familiar actors who pop up as the suspects each week - it must be a great gig for them, getting to film over in Guadaloupe - better than an episode of Holby City!

The boss doesn't even like babies

"AIBU to be annoyed that all my DH's work colleagues followed him home when they heard I was in labour? Even his bosses boss, his colleague's mum, and some random guy seconded to the team for a day turned up. Instead of telling them to f off, he let them hang around on the verandah until dd was born..."

Yes not overjoyed to have the team outside😂

I've just rewatched the episode with the baby's birth. The whole team were indeed on the verandah outside the bedroom window - including Catherine, the commissioner and the random other English detective on the island for one case... Can you imagine the AIBU from Fidel's wife??? Or from the other English detective for that matter (who despite being portrayed as similar to DI Poole did not seem embarrassed to be at the birth of the baby of someone he had never met)

This is the character, some of you are confusing for JP. I did it too! His wife had a baby, confusingly called Rosie...

Just went on iPlayer to find the last episode and it is season 9??? Shock can't believe how long I've been watching it for (no wonder the quality is starting to drop off - can't think of many programs that keep the same quality for more than a few seasons). Tempted to go back and rewatch series 1 now...

I'm finding the rash thing annoying because it presents people with allergies as just annoying
Sun doesn't work well for me. I burn easily and everything bites me. I react badly to bites and have ended up in hospital thanks to mosquitoe bites
I agree, we will see a miraculous recovery from his allergies Confused

Maybe, as he settles into life on the island, the de-stressing will cure his "allergies".

Agree the rashes itching constant mentions of his allergies are annoying

I find the rash stuff annoying because it gives me phantom itchyness through the rest of the episode.

sanityisamyth · 23/02/2020 10:13

Finding it intensely irritating now - it's all about his rashes and allergies.

Watched the last two episodes today, and enjoying them. Okay, the plots are a bit convoluted, and they seemingly can weave a huge storyline out of an insignificant object.

In this series, they seem to be a slight shift in direction, with there being more storylines about the characters. They’ve also deconstructed the main elements of Death in Paradise - ie, inspector doesn’t want to be there, can’t stand the heat, doesn’t like Harry etc.

I think Ralf Little is doing a good job.

TulipCat · 21/02/2020 04:22

@Graphista ha! Maybe they should give me a job as a scriptwriter!

@TulipCat seems they read the thread and copied you Grin

I'm really missing Duane, it's lacking a character that's "streetwise" with lots of experience of the island. Not a fan of Madeleine either she's too bland.

Camille had that world weary expert keeping the inspector on point thing.

I'm loving ruby though, I was actually moved to tears tonight by her development. Love the relationship with "uncle selwyn"

Think they were right to go back to a "fish out of water" dynamic with the new inspector who I am actually liking.

Inspectors in order of preference

Kris Marshall
Ben Miller
Ralf little
Ardal o'hanlon

I like ardal as an actor usually and even as a person but he struggled with this

SoupDragon · 15/02/2020 22:09

Actually, all this complaining about the lead being a white man who doesn't want to be there and the second in command is a black female who doesn't want to be there...

I thought the superintendent was rude and why should the new detective be responsible for his boat when he was on police business

Report
2Rebecca · 15/02/2020 21:38

I don't like the new second in command and also cant remember her name. She doesn't add anything to the series. Not that we need any more wacky eccentric characters and the new policeman is annoyingly neurotic. I love Catherine
