New series on Sky. It's great. I'm ill so been binge watching.

All the institution names are changed slightly
I assumed the hospital was essentially the RVI

rookiemere · 20/01/2020 21:04

I'm watching it, but not loving it. Feel it should be a lot more dramatic than it actually is and can't warm to any of the characters.

CormoranStrike · 20/01/2020 21:06

I understand why patients needed to be there, but they showed people walking for miles to get there.

RipleysCat · 20/01/2020 21:22

I enjoyed it, but didn’t see the point of some of the characters personal lives being a fair bit of the focus, instead of what was going on around the country with the black outs. Like the chief of staffs full on romance Confused 🤢

GetOffYourHighHorse · 20/01/2020 21:43

' I understand why patients needed to be there, but they showed people walking for miles to get there.'

Yes, like why leave the security of their own home with flushing toilets to live in a tent, they don't seem ill it's like a refugee type camp. The attempted lynching seemed a bit ott too. They should have had a different disaster maybe an earthquake caused by fracking or similar.

I liked the PM's rousing speech.

MaddieElla · 21/01/2020 19:33

So confused. Unless something is seriously wrong with my TV, episode 6 repeats the first episode for the last few minutes? And is episode 6 the last of the series? Genuinely confused.

Also confused about why the lorries were blocking the path. Surely everyone wanted the transformer to get through?

bellinisurge · 21/01/2020 19:35

I'm a general prepper and there were loads of things in it that made me go hmm. But entertaining enough drama.
Glad someone else on here spotted the "why wouldn't people just stay at home " thing. Especially so early in the crisis.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 19:43

Thw blockage was political point scoring. An opportunity for the man with the raspy voice to make the situation worse and whip up mistrust and hatred of the government.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 19:43

Can anyone explain why it hit France so much earlier than UK, and before the scientists had confirmed the polarity?

Bluewavescrashing · 21/01/2020 20:11

I thought after the first episode it would be a total apocalypse type event so the way it unfolded was a massively diluted version of my expectation. I clearly misunderstood what was actually going on!

I was prepared to suspend disbelief because I really liked the characters.

bellinisurge · 21/01/2020 20:31

@StealthPolarBear that whole thing reminded me of a Dara O'Brian sketch about impossible science.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 21:26

Bluewavescrashing yes me too. I actually liked that it didn't do that. It seems fairly believable (and I'm in the north east)

lynsey91 · 22/01/2020 11:02

Those of you who have binge watched this did you not think that episode 3 did not follow on properly from episode 2?

At the start of 3 when they do the "previously" bit there were bits we definitely had not seen (I rewatched 2 to make sure I hadn't missed them). The bit when some guy got knocked down by a car, the bit where Anna is shown photos of her old friend, the bit where the girl is saying "where's my mum?" and other bits

Me and DH stopped watching it because it didn't make sense

WeHaveSnowdrops · 22/01/2020 11:08

Started to go downhill in episode 3 for me. Not sure I'll see it out.

bellinisurge · 22/01/2020 11:33

I got a bit confused when the experience of the briefly kidnapped and subsequently rescued daughter didn't get much dramatic coverage when it was allowed to "play out" .did I miss something?

lynsey91 · 22/01/2020 12:05

@bellinisurge when was the daughter kidnapped? Was that when she said "where's my mum? As I said, that bit showed at the beginning of episode 3 as "previous" but had not been in episode 2.

Episode 3 doesn't follow on from 2 at all. When was Anna shown the photos of her foreign friend meeting whoever the other guy was? Me and DH have watched episode 2 twice now and those bits are definitely not in it.

We are both totally confused. It's like a whole episode has been missed out and yet no one else is thinking that

SavageBeauty73 · 22/01/2020 12:57

Yes! Episode 3 was weird. Nothing about the kidnap. It's like the editors went nuts and cut loads of scenes.

OP posts:
PickwickThePlockingDodo · 22/01/2020 13:16

Yes I noticed that too. I kept saying 'she doesn't know about her Dd yet, how can she not notice she's missing, has no-one told her' but then all of a sudden she knew Confused

The camp bit was weird too, why did people walk miles to camp in a tent? It should've shown us the chaos of people trying to get food/water then it would've made more sense and surely most people have a few days/weeks worth of food/milk/even orange juice to survive on if the water went off, even if you're not a prepper?

And while I'm at it Wink why didn't the army just move the lorries blocking the motorway straight away?

I did enjoy it but it was a bit Hmm

FluffyFreya · 22/01/2020 13:58

I'm completely confused now, just started episode 3 and there's a whole load of stuff that's clearly happened but not shown Confused

It really is like an episode has been missed out. Tried to carry on watching but hate that feeling of not quite knowing what's going on.

PenguinsOnParade · 22/01/2020 13:59

We definitely saw the guy being run over in the episode before it was in the recap. We watched it straight away so would they have changed it? That makes no sense though. I yelled out loud when it happened so definitely saw it.

bellinisurge · 22/01/2020 14:01

There's a whole prepper thing (I am one) about not going to a camp ever. I'm guessing most people would if desperate. But I would think even people who aren't Preppers wouldn't upsticks on day 2 and schlep all the way up the A1 on foot to a tent. If they didn't have enough water for people, how would they have conveyed all the tents there in double quick time.
They had water supply problems in my Mum's home town not long before she died (even the hospital didn't have access to the water supply network) but they managed to either get water to people or have local collection places.
If the coronal mass ejection thingy didn't affect electrics in cars (as appeared to be the case here) etc, there wouldn't be much problem with people getting to work.

MaddieElla · 22/01/2020 14:11

Yes, definitely weird that all that was happening with her daughter and she didn't know, but then she did.

Also, please can someone let me know if episode 6 is the same for them or if my Sky box has gone haywire? The last 30 minutes of episode 6 was a recap of another episode...it went back to when they were describing the severity of the storm in the very first episode, then to the lights going out across London Confused

PenguinsOnParade · 22/01/2020 14:19

The ending didn't do that for us. It was definitely an ending and no recap. I even just checked with DH as I was starting to doubt myself.

We watched all 6 episodes via Sky On Demand (UHD version) on the day it was released if that helps at all.

Definitely sounds like something odd going on.

MaddieElla · 22/01/2020 14:32

Wow, how odd. I downloaded it again just to check and it did it again. I'll reset the box and see if that helps.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 22/01/2020 14:47

No I think it was a proper ending for us too although my Dd swears our sky box downloaded eight episodes not six Confused
