Jason Bateman stars and directs. 2 episodes aired tonight. Have watched the 1st. Was excellent. Very chilling. What are people’s thoughts?

@BG2015 yeah I know but I initially thought he was going to be the next victim/clone but he’s obviously not. So has it passed in to Paddy Considine/lapdance manager now?

I was quite into it before I realised there was such an element of the supernatural. It’s a genre I really hate due to anything being explained away with it - there’s no logic to it.
Dp convinced me to watch an episode with him, we are up to the third one and I don’t think I’ll bother with the rest, however I had been enjoying the storyline. Tense!
What was the liquid on the floor in the bedroom in episode 2 when the little daughter was awake again in the middle of the night? Was it there or not there as no one seemed to notice it.

@TheChosenTwo was it to show that the “man” had been in her room to talk to her? I think it will be the same as the frozen fluid that they found in the barn, some kind of weird ectoplasm type liquid.

I thought the man was really there. Dh says he doesn’t think so. Then I decided it was all supernatural bollocks and mentally checked out Grin

I thought he was really there but there was one time (in the 1st episode?) where she was talking to him when the Mum was present and she couldn’t see him?

The thing that is bugging me is what’s going on with the police officer that hunts. He seems to have been possessed rather than being cloned. At one point he was talking saying “I’ll do whatever you need”. I wonder if he is a bit like the Renfield character in Dracula, like a servant that does his bidding.

Enjoyed last night's episode - bit more information revealed. Really like the PI and her quirks.

Anyone find it's really low soundwise - I have to crank the volume up by loads just to hear what they're saying!

It is Stephen King - he likes the supernatural and unexplained. He's a horror writer after all.

TheChosenTwo · 28/01/2020 19:05

Yes I know about Steven King being a supernatural author! I just didn’t realise it was a SK programme until about halfway through when DH suggested watching it - totally my mistake. As I say, the story was intriguing but the minute I found out it was supernatural I was annoyed!!

@TheChosenTwo ahhh I think you should just go with it if you found the story intriguing! 👍

Eps 1 & 2 were great. Eps 3 & 4... eh, not so much. I'm also struggling to see how this can be stretched to 10 eps.

There must be more to come with the reveal about what further happened to the family members after the murders/incarcerations.

The Maitland family haven't been touched by ongoing tragedy - yet - in the way that the others have been, so this must be part of their storyline and why their youngest has seen her father's doppelgänger/evil monster.

Also Paddy Considine's character was scratched by Terry Maitland so would infer that, he too, will be affected.

I'm not at all sure what's going on with the police officer and the lair that he's building.

I'm feeling a bit sorry that the police officer who has just had a baby and is on crutches is back at work already!

@Ulysses yes I assume that Paddy Considine will be infected now.

What I didn’t understand was why the woman PI jumped to the conclusion (and was right) that the male nurse would have been infected when he was away in New York? Surely it could have happened anywhere, not necessarily when he was away from home? And how come nobody has noticed the identical cases of Terry Maitland and the nurse before now? And if Paddy Considine is now going to kill some kids then the police are deffo going to be suspect!

This is absolutely brilliant. I've read a lot of SK in my 20/30s but not for about 15 years now as I seemed to outgrow the overlong descriptive passages. This adaptation is making me think I should give him another chance.

I've also read a lot of Dean Koontz and there's a niggling in my mind that this has similarities with one or more of his books.

I think the 'inky' refers to a dark spirit 'pouring' into the room. Sort of Melisandre/Stannis spirit birth type thing for those that have seen GOT.

Can't wait for ep 5, what day does it come out?

@TubbyPony I actually did a bit of my own detective work after the last episode and one of the things the PI was looking up was ‘Black Annis’. It’s an English folklore bogeyman that is imagined as an old hag with a dark blue face that steals and eats children. I wonder if this could be the inkyness that the girl talked about.

The episodes become available early hours of Monday morning.

Anyone seen tonight’s ?

Yes I watched it. Think I need to watch again though as don’t think I was paying enough attention!

I don’t really know what’s going on to be honest. But I think that the policeman that was infected in the barn is some kind of facilitator to the hooded figure. He creates the lair which I think has to be close by to a cemetery or something similar as it feeds on death and grief. The black guy that was shot by the police was another ‘facilitator’?

The bit where the figure was standing over the cot was utterly terrifying, I literally had to watch through my fingers when she was running to her baby and it wasn’t there!

Doesn’t explain much either

Yeah, I'm confused too. Somehow I missed the fact that TM was dead until the visit to the grave in this episode!

Did I blink at the wrong moment? Quick loo break and it hasn't been mentioned since?

I'm going to go back to the beginning and come back to this thread once I've caught up properly.

I only realised he was dead in episode 3, and when I was reading a review of what happened. I kind of forgot about him, didn't realise he didn't survive the shooting and thought that he was still in prison pending a hearing Confused!

This weeks episode seemed to focus on everyone being affected in someway by the grief eater and yes, the scene with the baby was so tense to watch. YY to the lair as well. The guy in Dayton also had the pus filled neck. So that kind of confirms that Claude (Paddy Considine) by virtue of being scratched will have a bigger role to play, rather than the cop being the host.

I am hoping the pace picks up a bit tbh.

No one else watching

This is from last week E5 / still don’t understand what is happening

In Cherokee City, the hooded figure appears to Ralph's wife Jeannie, relaying a warning to Ralph that they will both be killed if he continues his investigation. Ralph brushes this off as a nightmare of Jeannie's, but is unsettled when her drawing of the intruder is extremely similar to the boy's drawing of the man who took the van. In Dayton, Holly theorizes about the shape-shifting creature killing children, and visits the cemeteries of both Heath Hofstedter and his alleged victims, finding dilapidated buildings nearby and photographing them, believing that the creature would live in these buildings to feed on the suffering of those visiting the graves. She also meets a man associated with Heath, who later commits suicide-by-cop and is shown to have the same sores on his neck as Jack. Holly suggests Ralph take photographs around Terry's grave, and Ralph's partner Yun notices that the barn where the clothes were found is right by the cemetery. Holly opts to drive back to Cherokee City to debrief Ralph, Howie and Alec. The night before, she invites Andy Katcavage, a Dayton security officer with whom she's had a courtship, up to her room. Holly leaves the next morning but her car breaks down on the way out of Dayton. Andy finds her notes on the investigation and researches them. Continually terrorized by the unseen entity, Jack offers to help Ralph with his case.
