Wistling - new scandi thriller BB4 saturdays double episodes

I was looking foward to this as Christmas tv has been really pathetic.

But am beginning to think scandi thrillers are losing any originality. The plot line is such an old one, slightly rehased, but just allowing the series to show endless shots of trapped terrified young women who are nearly naked. (*)

And obviously hoping to appeal to US audiences by conveniently having to accept the FBI getting involved.

Did anyone else watch, and if so what did you think?

(* I am aware that this is a crime that is far more frequent than news reporting suggests. Young women kidnapped and brutalised, sometimes murdered, sometimes held captive for year. But in a tv series it seems to just be the opportunity for pornified filming.)

This ten episodes thriller is based on two Jørn Lier Horst novels, The Caveman (2012) and The Hunting Dogs (2013)

I really really enjoyed this! And didn't find the names/characters particularly confusing. Was glad to finally discover why Line got so into investigative journalism and Tommy seems like a nice guy

Shame that the police chief had to be the 'traitor', but I suppose the detecting team are all very close-knit so it couldn't be one of them - they might want to make another series!

Loved how they made us suspect each character of being the baddie but in the end they all turned out to be likeable in their own odd ways (apart from the pervy photographer). Also very much jealous of Wisting's cabin on the water...

OMG yes that cabin!

There are more books so hopefully there will be another series at some point.

What to watch next - any recommendations?

Stockholm Requiem on Walter Presents looks quite good.

If you haven't seen them already, Thicker Than Water and The Legacy are good Scandis (Swedish and Danish respectively) –not crime procedurals, more family dramas, although they both have elements of crime/thriller.

I think that, following Montalbano, the next Saturday BBC4 offering might be series 2 of Hidden (the one set in Wales.)
@IntermittentParps - I binged the first 8 episodes of Stockholm Requiem yesterday - currently watching number 9/10. I thought it was 'mycket bra'. But then I love anything with a snowy setting and in a Scandinavian language.

Oh, is there a new Hidden?! I quite liked the first one, although if we're talking Welsh noir then Hinterland is the one to beat.

Yes, I'd think so. If I remember, the locked-up young woman was rescued … and did the culprit chuck himself off a bridge?

That sounds about right. The locked-up woman befriended the daughter in some way, didn't she?

Don't remember very clearly, but yes, did she get her to unlock the door eventually? but then yer man came back and found them, or something.

And the police detective's dad was dying?

Yes. I wonder if he'll cark it in this next series. I'm on the fence about whether to watch; it was OK but it wasn't top-notch, was it? Wales looked rather beautiful though.

It had a bit of a daytime TV vibe to it but I probably will watch it unless it clashes with something better.
