Wistling - new scandi thriller BB4 saturdays double episodes

stumbledin · 29/12/2019 23:39

I was looking foward to this as Christmas tv has been really pathetic.

But am beginning to think scandi thrillers are losing any originality. The plot line is such an old one, slightly rehased, but just allowing the series to show endless shots of trapped terrified young women who are nearly naked. (*)

And obviously hoping to appeal to US audiences by conveniently having to accept the FBI getting involved.

Did anyone else watch, and if so what did you think?

(* I am aware that this is a crime that is far more frequent than news reporting suggests. Young women kidnapped and brutalised, sometimes murdered, sometimes held captive for year. But in a tv series it seems to just be the opportunity for pornified filming.)

Watching - on episode 7 and enjoying it but where has all the snow gone?!

Agree with those saying Line is annoying - she has been through all that and is now back at work!?

amaryl · 21/01/2020 21:57

It’s Summer now, it was Christmas then. Something was said about time.
I thought maybe it was 2 series, but it was all released Spring 2019

DuncinToffee · 21/01/2020 23:16

That journalist was my first thought too.
Also agree with Line being quite annoying. I also didn't realise that Hammer actually had a first name.
Still enjoying it though.

And according to wiki it is based on 2 books.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 22/01/2020 16:12

Apparently it's the most expensive TV series they've ever done in Norway,

rosegoldwatcher · 22/01/2020 18:57

Watching it, but it isn't quite satisfying my need for Nordic-Noir so had to watch In Order of Disappearance again!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2020 13:46

Way behind. On e6

Story doesn’t seem as good as 1/5

Worth continuing ?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/01/2020 14:41

I would @Blondeshavemorefun as something I read suggested that the big reveal (which will be tonight?) spans both storylines

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2020 14:53

Thanks @newmodel

On 7 at mo

Tho the ivf bit was weird - has 2 foilicles being collected tomorow. Then doc said to take a week off

Be better to take the week off 5 days later once eggs transfered

Can you tell I’ve had 5 cycles of ivf lol

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2020 15:32

So we have line the policeman’s daughter

And linnea who is missing

Isn’t it weird to have such similar names for lead characters /cases ?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/01/2020 15:35

I agree regarding the names @Blondeshavemorefun. Makes it very confusing!

colouringinpro · 25/01/2020 21:03

last two now!

colouringinpro · 25/01/2020 21:14

anyone watching?

colouringinpro · 25/01/2020 22:33

Nicely done.

BuggaLugga · 25/01/2020 23:16

Just finished it. Questions.
What was the link between Hagland and the man that got murdered in the park (Ravens...whatever his name was)?
How did Frank know where to go?

ImTheCaddy · 25/01/2020 23:23

I have the same questions!!

DuncinToffee · 25/01/2020 23:50

Good episodes but left with the same questions.

I think that Ravneberg and his dog walking mate rented/bought the bunker after Haglund got sent to prison and came across the room and tape. Guess they didn't go to the police as they were dealing in stolen motorbikes.
Frank Robekk probably followed Haglund, the bunker seemed to be near the fishing spot.

BuggaLugga · 26/01/2020 04:21

Thanks @DuncinToffee.
I wonder how Hagland knew he knew, and tracked him down to kill him?
Surely Hagland would have been under some kind of close supervision/probation in release?
I was glad they found the girl.

BuggaLugga · 26/01/2020 04:24

If they had carried on following Hagland they would have found her sooner.
Didn't the girl say a man in an old white car was stalking her a year before when Hagland was still in jail? Or am I getting my times muddled up?
We never found out how Hagland game to grab her to begin with.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/01/2020 07:13

That Hagland made his own 'flies' for fishing echoed Hannibal Lector, so by that point, everything was signaling him to be the killer.

And yes, he would have surely had very strict and limiting bail conditions, so the fact that he could be moving around to murder the two guys and abduct the girls seemed to be a stretch too far.

BuggaLugga · 26/01/2020 09:27

It all seemed a bit rushed at the end.

Panicmode1 · 26/01/2020 10:09

Bit frustrating really. All a bit rushed into the last 2 episodes and made the first 4 rather pointless.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2020 10:13

I don't really see the point of the story lines about the police woman going through IVF and Line and Tommy's relationship.

Also as soon as Frank put down his gun you knew it was going to be used against him, didn't they watch the Killing Grin

Overall I liked the series but it could have done with explanations at the end.

stumbledin · 26/01/2020 20:26

Someone earlier said they had seen that it was based on two books.

And I think this maybe explains why it seemed a bit gappy in terms of explanations.

Maybe if they had made one series from each book the could have explained things better. I think the bit about the IVF was to show how people's (or women's specifically?) can impact on your work. But to suddently have the top woman police person being the culprit of faking info just didn't ring true. I mean we hadn't really had anything about her character.

And I suppose in the second book Wisting being suspended etc., made more sense of him "working" with his daughter, but it just didn't seem realistic.

But my main problem is that I have difficulty remembering who everyone is, and often wish at the start of a new episode they did little bios of all the main characters. By the time I've remembered everyone its half way through a new episode and am lost because I wont have been concentratin on the plot. (This is true of just about everything I watch Blush )

But as a whole a bit disappointing. But am holding out for the Irish crime thriller I have started watching Taken Down.

I love the photography in these Nordic programs. The overhead shots of the roundabout, and of the man skiing with his dog are great.
Oh the storyline? I enjoyed that but am confused as to who the killer was.

boatyardblues · 26/01/2020 20:47

I used to watch lots of Scandi noir thrillers but got fed up of the brutalised women. I watched a very good Korean thriller on Netflix recently called The Lies Within. It’s finished airing now, so the whole season is available. It’s brooding, twisty and unflinchingly gory in a few places but really interesting - a mix of crime and politics. I mention it in case anyone wants a change of scene, as it was a really quality production.
