Anyone watching?

I love stuff like this.

OP posts:
Bigoldwimp · 13/12/2019 23:02

I warmed to all the families more this episode.

But to go back to any earlier point wasn’t there an exchange between the two dads where one looked at Austyn and said “you are beautiful “ and the other Dad said something like “you would think that “. I might be remembering it poorly as I’m watching it during 2am feedings, but I assumed from that exchange they knew who was father to which twin. Or maybe it want a jibe at all

I know they were crew together but did Mel know the chaps well before she agreed to it? She has more inner strength than I have , I hope she gets to be God mother

SleepingStandingUp · 14/12/2019 02:40

Catching up tons as I was off having babies of my own...

yes, did the surrogate mum breast feed them even once, or is that not a thing? tbf I've just delivered twins, I have no milk, partly cos twins tend to come early. It's entirely possible she couldn't anyway.

I certainly didn't try to change a 2 week old baby in a cot and use foul language. but that has nothing to do with it being two dads. Lots of people swear around their pre verbal children, lots of new parents would think changing a baby where its lying comfortable is fine cos what's the worst thst could happen...

SleepingStandingUp · 14/12/2019 02:45

I don’t know if they will make great parents though, they already put the mother at risk by choosing to go for twins. They are having daughters as well.
But so did Mel. Mel, as their "mother" also chose a twin pregnancy that put each baby at greater risk than if she'd had two singleton pregnancies. So surely she, and any woman who has two eggs implanted during IVF for example, are equally bad parents by your logic?

SleepingStandingUp · 14/12/2019 02:50

Mel volunteered to be a surrogate but the men chose the twin pregnancy ( they mentioned this in episode 1) so in your scenario she offered to be their surrogate and then they demanded she carry two and she did so against her will?

and the other Dad said something like “you would think that I thought he just said what about the other one?

vivacian · 14/12/2019 04:10

Why would we not believe what Mel's saying?

Well, earlier in this thread, @purpleme12 somebody wouldn’t believe me that we’d seen the farming family before. Women are often vocally not believed.

NoSauce · 14/12/2019 06:03

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory do you have children? Are you a man?

TowelStripes · 14/12/2019 07:02

I agree with @IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory, @NoSauce and I'm a woman with two children Hmm

ihatethecold · 14/12/2019 07:37

Mel seems like one of those really kind people who don’t like to say no.

That’s a bit of a leap. You have no idea what this woman is like 🙄

stairway · 14/12/2019 08:09

My point with the twin pregnancy is that in the uk its rarely done now with women likely to carry twins which is probably why they had ivf in Cyprus. It’s medically unethical. It puts both mother and babies at risk. In the Uk they only do it if they think twin pregnancy is unlikely do to infertility issues. The only person to benefit is the two men as they both wanted a biological child.
She was already doing them a favour so why put her more at risk? It doesn’t matter if she consented, it comes down to medical ethics.

purpleme12 · 14/12/2019 08:13

@vivacian they hadn't featured in the programme. They might have been shown for some seconds as someone has mentioned but they hadn't featured in the programme. I. Would have thought it was obvious what I meant but no matter

stairway · 14/12/2019 08:22

Tbh I do also question Mel’s motives. She does seem like a nice person but her priority should be her own husband and children. I think she put herself too much at risk both physically and mentally.
She gave a reason why she did it but for me it’s not the same as fostering children. When you foster you try and give a loving home to children born in difficult circumstances. In this case she created a situation where two girls may grow up very confused.

NoSauce · 14/12/2019 08:26

Yes, when was the farming couple featured in the programme before Wednesdays episode?

purpleme12 · 14/12/2019 08:30

@nosauce I think they mean they had seconds worth of coverage saying that they will be featured in the programme. They weren't actually featured and told about until the last one

NoSauce · 14/12/2019 08:39

Yes I hadn’t seen them either. I was just confused to why vivacian was upset at not being believed that she’d seen them previously.

vivacian · 14/12/2019 08:59

I’m not upset. I’m frustrated because we obviously had seen them before, in episode one, and one poster repeatedly said we hadn’t. There’s been no apology. It’s fucking gas lighting.

This thread was great until recently, positive and warm, and now it’s people tearing apart a woman’s choice to be a surrogate and homophobia against a pair of men for having the audacity to want something so “unnatural” as to be parents.

purpleme12 · 14/12/2019 09:01

I've explained myself. (Not that I should need to) I don't need to apologise. (But then again someone who gaslights would say that wouldn't they?!)

stairway · 14/12/2019 09:03

I think it’s important to discuss the ethical issues of surrogacy, especially as they weren’t mentioned on the program.

NoSauce · 14/12/2019 09:15

vivacian pipe down, nobody is gas lighting, being homophobic or slating surrogates.

Stop being dramatic.

So you’re saying the farming couple appeared in episode one then? I will have to watch it again because I didn’t see their story at all.

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 14/12/2019 09:37

do you have children? yes
Are you a man? no

Am I allowed an opinion now? Hmm

Congratulations @SleepingStandingUp! What did you have? Thanks

lynsey91 · 14/12/2019 09:41

I think the two gay dads seem lovely. They must live somewhere near where I used to live and I am sure I have seen them before.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/12/2019 09:51

No,it's not homophobic to disagree with surrogacy,it makes me deeply uncomfortable for all sorts of reasons and homophobia is not one of them. And I also question a surrogate's motive as well ,I agree with a pp that Mel's priorities should've been her own family.

cushioncovers · 14/12/2019 09:53

I don't think I have seen the farming family until this weeks episode.

hifolks · 14/12/2019 10:47

The fact that the men were tearful in the car, tells me, they are aware of what they have done.

How can thousands and thousands of years of human biology just be trashed to fulfill the wants of 2 people.

It's bad enough that women are brainwashed into thinking they should be back in their size 10 jeans and in work at week 3 or whatever. Look to societies other than entitled middle class white UK for some pointers.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/12/2019 10:55

hifolks yeah,I agree.

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 14/12/2019 11:01

The fact that the men were tearful in the car, tells me, they are aware of what they have done.

Are you sure it wasn’t the fact they said they knew what they’d done, that tells you the knew what they’d done? Grin they actually said why they were crying, it had just hit them that they had planned everything but they had forgotten to plan for Mel being left alone in the hospital when they took the babies. They literally acknowledge it!
