I think that whole look and song thing to answer a PP was that it was HUGE in the New York Gay Club Scene in the 80s of which Michelle was a big part according to Wikipedia she is bi.

2Rebecca · 17/11/2019 22:11

If she is married to a bloke in what way is she homosexual? Is she a transwoman? I didn't think she was she looks female but don't know much about her. She obviously has gay friends but in what way is she gay/ LGBT or is having gay friends now enough? Genuine question.

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2019 22:12

You have heard of bisexuality, I take it...

MaggieFS · 17/11/2019 22:16

@100PercentThatBitch Oh right, thanks for explaining. As I said before, such a waste of a great song in the context of Strictly.

Does anyone else think Emma and Anton now seem much more comfortable with each other?

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 17/11/2019 22:17

I know this is going to sound ridiculously precious and over-invested but the more I read that message, the more annoyed I get on behalf of the show. For being a Saturday evening light entertainment show it’s been progressive and tolerant from day 1, with two gay judges and several gay pros. It’s been a gay-friendly camptacular since RuPaul’s Drag Race was just a sequinned twinkle in US cable TV’s eye. It’s probably done more for actual real world acceptance than any other mainstream show on British TV, because if you’re going to make it on the show then you have to appeal to the audience, and they - we - don’t care if you’re gay, straight, bi, person of colour, disabled or whatever. Can you learn to dance and do you entertain us while you’re doing so? Can you teach your pro good routines? Yes? Then you’re in, regardless of anything else. So fuck off with your “should have sent a message” bollocks. The judges did send a message and it was as simple as this: Michelle’s dance wasn’t good enough. End of story, thank you and goodnight.

AppleKatie · 17/11/2019 22:19

I agree completely.

NumbersStation · 17/11/2019 22:22

Couldn’t have said it better @OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg

melj1213 · 17/11/2019 22:26

Isn't that written to Michelle by someone else?

It was, but she is the one who has chosen to make a post on her Instagram that highlighted that message over any other (and I'm sure she has received many messages that don't include such controversial points as to suggest that the judges should have shown her any form of bias/positive discrimination based on their sexuality)

I have no issue with Michelle wanting to use her CC dance to highlight LGBTQ community, much like how Will used his to highlight his disability and the huge community of people who have supported him through his life, but to say that the judges should base their votes on their "community allegiance" over the actual ability presented is frankly insulting.

Strictly Come Dancing has always been an inclusive show on TV when it comes to having homosexual representation, nobody needed Michelle to come and "represent" the community that has already been represented on the show for nearly two decades and she should not be encouraging the idea that the judges should be voting in anything other than dancing. Nobody suggests that Motsi should be giving Oti 10s every week because they are sisters and have family loyalty, she is expected to be impartial, as should all of the judges.

Sometimes a bad dance is just a bad dance, regardless of the "message" or "representation" and when it is put up against a dance that is technically good and entertaining then it should be judged impartially and the better dancer should progress. On this evening, that dancer was Saffron.

MaggieFS · 17/11/2019 22:30

I have to agree, Michelle choosing to share those particular messages is clearly trying to make a point and I'm really disappointed someone I thought was a great contestant should think she should get selected for something other than the dancing. Gone down in my estimation.

ManonBlackbeak · 17/11/2019 22:30

Thats a fantastic post OnlyTheTitofTheIceberg. I agree wholeheartedly.

AppleKatie · 17/11/2019 22:31

If Craig and Bruno had voted her through out of some kind of ‘lotalty’ that would have been the beginning of the end for any pretence it is a dance competition.

It’s not fair for her to publicly put blame on them for not doing that.

MyNameIsJane · 17/11/2019 22:37

Ouch @AppleKatie, is that what has been said? That makes me sad.

Encyclo · 17/11/2019 22:47

I don't think she's blaming them. She posted that message in an attempt to explain her reasons for vogueing. I'm sure she's reading online and seeing lots of posts criticising her dance and it's lack of actual dance content.

I don't think she's posted it to call out the judges. It's the first page she's alluding to.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/11/2019 22:49

She’s then reposted a couple of messages of support stating the 2 gay judges should have voted for her to represent that community

So - she expects people to vote for her even though her dance was the worse of the two just because of her closeness to the gay community?

How bloody patronising to gay people is that?!

I have to admit that I half expected her to get the "pink vote" in the same way Julian Clary did - but perhaps the gay community weren't any more impressed with her than the judges were.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/11/2019 22:53

@OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg

Excellent post!

melj1213 · 17/11/2019 22:53

The problem is Encyclo, that by including a message that specifically calls out the "two gay male judges" for not voting for her she has undermined that message.

I am sure she had received a lot of messages of support but she has chosen to include one that has explicitly called out the gay judges for not voting based in sexuality and also accused the show of not accepting the history of the style, despite the fact that half of the judging panel is gay and many pros are too. If Michelle was the first LGBTQ+ person on the show then it might be a valid message, but she is not and gay representation is something this show had long before Michelle ever turned up.

WhichBin · 17/11/2019 22:54

@ OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg you put it far more eloquently than me.

Sorry my screen shots and last post weren’t clear. Her first post is 3 pictures of words, thanking everyone, Gio and the friends she’s made etc and referring the voguing as being a dance and it being a message supporting the LGBT+ community.

The next post is another 3 pictures of messages of support. It looks like 2 particular fans, with one fan having 2 pictures (what I uploaded).

As per OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg I’m all for her saying her couples choice dance is something that means something, but to re post the email she has received from a fan basically means she thinks the same as them eg, Bruno and Craig should have supported her because of her “message” and them being, like gay, and in support of the “message” Hmm

WhichBin · 17/11/2019 22:57

First Insta post

Second Insta post

Third Insta post (this is about Giovanni)

Encyclo · 17/11/2019 23:04

I agree with you all that she shouldn't have posted the part calling out Craig and Bruno. I think an apology is in order there.

I still maintain she's only posting that message to explain why she chose to dance that dance.

Encyclo · 17/11/2019 23:08

ITT will be interesting tomorrow.

Awrite · 17/11/2019 23:12

Michelle has also gone after James Jordan on Twitter for having the audacity to have an opinion on her dance. On his own feed.

Blimey, this lady loves herself.

I'm no fan of Saffron or AJ but it would have been a travesty to have saved Michelle over them.

NumbersStation · 17/11/2019 23:18

From the little I’ve seen, JJ said nowt wrong.

Move over pissygorka, there’s a new pissy in town.

I thought they were better than that.

Awrite · 17/11/2019 23:19

James Jordan said what we all said.

InglouriousBasterd · 17/11/2019 23:21

It’s interesting about Saffron feeling pressure - on insta they do a quick interview / reaction after getting their scores, and AJ came across very harsh - told her she’d made a mistake, missed a hop - actually sounded angry when the pro normally reassures them. It struck me as it was unusual - I’ve always like AJ so it surprised me.

NumbersStation · 17/11/2019 23:25

@IngloriousBasterd

Crikey.
