New series starts wed night 8pm

The Walton family and their sugar eating habits

As usual they will have their swaps and their fab brand of something won’t be swapped and they won’t like it

Always happens 😂😂😂

That episode almost put me off sweets. Crazy.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 19/10/2019 10:06

longwayoff RUDE! Grin
I'm so desperate to dry those damn sausages. Planning a pasta bake with them.

Leflic · 19/10/2019 10:27

I don’t like chicken sausages. But Waitrose do a nice sausage mixed with lentils and spinach. Less fat and proper tasty.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/10/2019 10:53

I've been buying low fat or chicken sausages for years, much higher meat and protein content too.

As a family we all wa Ted to lose a bit of weight but teen DSs still liked a weekend cooked breakfast. Low fat sausages, turkey bacon or bacon medallions, toasted muffin, poached eggs, tomato and mushrooms. Job done :)

I feel sorry for this couple as I know how hard the sugar craving is. I suspect they've already fallen off the wagon as they lost a decent amount the first week but don't seem to have lost as much as you would have expected since the cameras have gone.

I really wish them well and hope they continue with enough of the changes to improve their lives.

DH is the same age as this guy and still has a six pack and can scale a mountain, I appreciate the effort he makes. must make more myself

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2019 13:27

I need to try a heck chicken sausage

I love chicken mince and always use in spag Bol etc

Only just got round to watching this - can't believe that couple. She in particularly seriously needed to grow up.

As an aside - I love the Sainsbury's reduced beans! Mainly because that's what we ate growing up. Makes you realise what brand habits you're forming for your kids

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2019 21:21

The only brand I'm stuck to is Twinings earl grey tea, anything else is fine.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 20/10/2019 12:31

ShockShockat this, just watching on catch up. They seem lovely but how can they eat like that

Ilovetolurk · 20/10/2019 14:51

I suspect they've already fallen off the wagon as they lost a decent amount the first week but don't seem to have lost as much as you would have expected since the cameras have gone

I thought that too. He’d lost 10lbs in a week but then ended up losing just over a stone

RebootYourEngine · 20/10/2019 16:01

I spent the whole episode just screaming at the tv.

She in particular behaved like a spoilt child. I can't see the changes lasting long term.

Egghead68 · 20/10/2019 23:21

Great TV though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/10/2019 21:31

I did. Nice to see a student household for a change.

DettolObsessed · 23/10/2019 22:25

I really enjoyed tonights episode! That lentil Cumberland pie looked amazing! I'm searching for a recipe now Grin

ny20005 · 23/10/2019 22:35

I really enjoyed it too.

I always throw out cooked rice as I know it's dangerous if not chilled & reheated properly.

I was astounded by the expensive coffee & wine they were all buying 😱 even with a full time job I've never paid £9 for a bottle

jay55 · 24/10/2019 05:46

Enjoyed the change of pace with the students.
I wish they'd suggested they get an online shop between them, that would have knocked down the cost of some things and given them more choices than a little local supermarket.

Living where they do getting to an Aldi/Lidl is not easy, so many of the swaps would be out the window, unless one of them has a car.

I gasped at the coffee and wine too. Never bought real coffee as a student and always went for the cheapest alcohol. Couldn't believe the £9 a bottle stuff. And the pasta too, we'd buy the huge sacks of economy penne. And rice would be from the Chinese supermarket and last all year.

theneverendinglaundry · 24/10/2019 06:55

Yes quite enjoyed it. Cant believe what they were spending on pasta and pesto! At that age I didnt care what I ate, as long as I wasnt hungry.

Leflic · 24/10/2019 11:14

That was a good episode with some great recipes. Wasn’t hard to see how they could make savings either.
Was surprised they didn’t suggest making their own pesto. You can make it with any greens and a bit of garlic and nuts hanging around.
I liked the way the veggie and the gluten free boys were prioritised as I think it’s daunting for novice cooks to be inspired with food restrictions.

RebootYourEngine · 24/10/2019 15:27

I am 45 minutes in and they haven't spoken about the actual buying of things. When they did the first shop they all bought the same thing. Why haven't they suggested putting a shopping list on the fridge or as PP mentioned doing a weekly online shop so they aren't buying duplicates.

Leflic · 24/10/2019 18:05

I think they had tried group shopping but because they all eat and study at different times it didn’t work. I can see that...it only takes one person to use up the last of something because they’re home all day or after a late shift and it throws everyone else out. Easier to keep tabs on your own food, drink and snacks.

woodhill · 24/10/2019 18:23

Great episode

Egghead68 · 25/10/2019 00:40

The macaroni cheese looked vile though.

shearwater · 25/10/2019 08:10

Making your own pesto is far more expensive than just buying a jar of the stuff, even as a middle aged person who is likely to have some of the ingredients already.

The best money saving tip I found as a student was to not eat meat, and to shop and cook with a friend in a shared house so that you get economies of scale. We ate pretty well - spag bol made with vegemince, vegetable curries and chilli were the staples.

DettolObsessed · 25/10/2019 09:12

@shearwater I pay 59p in Aldi for my pesto. It's so cheap and exactly the same ingredients as leading brands!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/10/2019 14:36

Was a good episode

Agree last pasta is nice but I do buy the value 29p pasta which is just as nice

And as usual

I’m sure this is my usual brand of cereal

And it wasn’t 😂😂😂
