I'm not sure about shared lines but I know growing up by dad who is only a few years older than 'Joyce' didn't have a phone line so they had to go to the nearest neighbor with one if the need to call a doctor say so I don't know if that's what jack was getting at? Silly to go so specific about something they obviously have no clue on!

NeverTalksToStrangers · 14/10/2019 00:48

Jack and Beth are so alike they actually look like they could be related. The footage of them being romantic is so mild though.. I wonder if that's just the tip of the iceberg. Confused

I reckon Woody is going to block Georgina, Joyce or Josh. I'm glad Sammie didn't win the vote because James definitely would've been tactical and I didn't want Tim or Woody to go.

The Berlin Wall I remember I might have been 8?

But as a PP said

Where was I when?

Mostly watching it on telly

The two most significant where were yous of the last 30 years are 9/11 and Princess Diana's death.

9/11 could easily have revealed Joyce because both Jack and Beth would have been in primary school or not even in Woodys case.

100PercentThatBitch · 14/10/2019 01:08

Actually I remember in the 80s as a child you might get asked a more polite "Are you on the telephone?" Rather than what's your number

itswinetime · 14/10/2019 01:18

Absolutely I could tell you those in a heart beat! Where I was when Leona Lewis won X factor? probably watching it on the tv but I might have gone out that particular Saturday who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ even time question about the royal weddings was better I thought although watching it on the tv would still have been the answer for most!

Loveislandaddict · 14/10/2019 06:06

Regarding phone lines, my next door neighbour didn’t have a phone. We didn’t share a line, but we were their emergency contact. That was in late 70s/early 80s.

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 07:45

I agree Woody is in it to be popular not to win. I think he'll block Joyce as likely to be least contentious with other contestants and viewers. Would rather Josh went.
Agree Princess Di and 9/11 only events I can place accurately. Working really hard when Berlin wall came down still at school when Lennon shot, rarely watch x factor. Would have guessed Leona as only female winner I remember

lemonjumper · 14/10/2019 08:11

Shared lines (called 'party lines') were definitely a thing during 60s/70s, so it would fit for the younger years of Joyce's fake age.

CardiFree · 14/10/2019 08:14

Wasn't quite born when Lennon got shot but remember distinctly watching tv in my nan's kitchen after school (primary) having tea and biscuits watching the fall of the Berlin Wall. Any x-factor question would whistle over my head as It's not my thing.

Have never shared a phone line but used to think it was hilarious to phone up the talking clock (?).

I don't mind who Woody chooses, just don't want it to be Sammi.

Not surprised about Joyce's kiss. They're straight, healthy. Locked in together, similar levels of attractiveness and intelligence. They've got to know each other now much more than most people do from meeting on Tinder or wherever.

In other news I was concerned to realise watching last night's that I had worn Ella's almost identical yellow leopard skirt, tights/top ensemble to work on Friday, right down to the ponytail 👀.

SpanishFly · 14/10/2019 09:57

Argh so much meddling from the producers this year. It makes it so contrived to
a) have a secret influencer
b) that he/she has a killer blocking; when it's usually a mutual discussion
c) ask the viewers to choose that influencer.
Clearly they knew it would be Ella and Tim or Woody each time, and wanted to stir it up a little. However it still ended up being Woody, so what was the point??

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 10:18

It might be useful to the others to see Woody is popular and make them fear a public backlash if one of hem strategically blocks him

itswinetime · 14/10/2019 11:46

That only works if woody comes clean which he won't apart from to maybe Tim and Ella

Cwoffee · 14/10/2019 12:00

It's funny because the ones I loved the most at the start are now the ones I least like now, and vice versa. I used to love Georgina and Tim, disliked Sammi and Ella, indifferent about Woody. Now I'm not at all fussed about Georgina and Tim, where as I love Ella, Woody and Sammi. Sammi is playing a great game and seems to pretty convincing to all the players. Ella and Woody's friendship and detective skills seem to have really improved them both.

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 12:33

I still like Tim but I think he is getting fed up now and bored. Less keen on Georgina. I think Woody will tell people maybe not if he is really tactical but I think he's too obsessed with catfish hunting to be tactical

aSofaNearYou · 14/10/2019 15:30

Did anyone think it was really risky of Woody to casually say that Paul Mccartney changed his nappy if he didn't want people to know his parents were famous, and then feel really surprised that nobody asked him?? Ella brought it up but didn't feel compelled to ask if his mysterious dad who was friends with PM might be famous?

For people that literally have nothing to do but sniff out catfishes, it's so funny how little they seem to question things I'd be really suspicious of.

itswinetime · 14/10/2019 15:32

I guess woody feels he know knows who in the circle is his friend for real? But yeah I can't believe no one but Ella asked about it!

aSofaNearYou · 14/10/2019 15:53

I guess I must ask a lot more questions than the average person because there are so many times they've got the wrong end of the stick or not figured out a catfish just by not asking any questions.

I thought the same thing when Georgina confronted Tim about why he blocked Brooke. He actually had a fairly logical reason and she went on and on about wanting answers from him, and then in the conversation she basically just said "was it hard", and he said "yes but we had a reason".... and then he didn't offer up what that reason was, and she didn't ask.

Honestly it's like these people don't want to know what's going on!

lynsey91 · 14/10/2019 15:55

Only just caught up with last nights episode. I really dislike Georgina now and hope she doesn't win.

I still want Woody or Tim to win. Unlike most of you, I am not keen on Sammi. What is with hardly ever wearing a top - just put it away.

Loveislandaddict · 14/10/2019 16:01

I thought mentioning Paul Mcartney lived next door was risky. I’d be asking an avalanche of questions - where do you live? What do your parents do to afford a big house/rich area? What was he like? Etc.

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 16:03

Alex/Kaye from last year said it was really hot in there with all the TV lighting. Maybe he sweats and thought topless looks better than sweat stained. He does seem to fancy himself though but is entertaining

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 16:04

Kate

2Rebecca · 14/10/2019 16:11

It seemed pointless name dropping that made him look like either a young bloke who doesn't need 100k and lives in celebrity land or a liar.

lynsey91 · 14/10/2019 16:22

The memory game was pathetic. I am 65 and I can only vaguely remember the Berlin wall coming down, mainly because I have such a crap memory.

I do remember I was told that John Lennon had been murdered when I got to work and a colleague told me. I was a big Beatles fan so would remember although I could not tell you the exact year.

Bit surprised that Beth did not know the Beatles. I know she is quite young but a group that was so significant to British music?

lynsey91 · 14/10/2019 16:32

We had a shared phone. They were called "party lines" as far as I remember. We were told we had to have that as there were not enough phone lines for us to have our own phone line! It wasn't with the next door neighbour though. We had it for at least a year before we got our own line
