Recommend me a gentle tv drama

I am currently making my way through All Creatures Great and Small and absolutely love it.

Have recently also done Lovejoy, Monarch of the Glen, The Good Life and Butterflies.

Can you think of anything else I could watch that is just a gentle pleasant story, without crime, murder, violence, negativity and angst? I'm particularly struggling to think of anything made more recently and frequently end up turning to older series.

Another vote for the Detectorists. Love that programme. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.

Also a couple of oldies; Hamish Macbeth and Northern Exposure are both charmers. Gentle, quirky and funny.

The Durrells.
Heartbeat.
Shakespeare and Hathaway.
Foyle war.
Doc Martin.

Not drama but we like a cosy evening with C4 canals - Timothy west and a gently forgetful prunella scales cruising canals. ‘‘Tis lovely , slow and uneventful !

We need someone to re make all creatures great and small!

We do not! The original was perfect.

Not a drama, more of a documentary, but if you like detectorists you might like Gone Fishing with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse. Same sort of vibe.

@RandomlyChosenName I know! I'm
conflicted. I do so love the original.

I think it's still to be a period piece though (well, obviously if it's true to Herriot), so I'm hoping it has all the original warmth but in HD so we can better admire the gorgeous Yorkshire scenery?!

The Durrells
Downtown Abbey
Pushing Daisies (American, quirky)
Call the Midwife
Hamish Macbeth
Everwood (American, only lasted one series but just nice TV)

Oh wow I now have a long list to keep me going. I'd forgotten so many of these, some I never saw the first time round.

Forgot the new series of Doc Martin is just starting. I loved Detectorists too and might do a rewatch.

All Creatures Great and Small is just pure perfection for me. It's sublime.

Surprised no one has mentioned Suits. Legal drama with good humour.

Hamish Macbeth, Agatha Raisin. Both by same author, very gentle adaptations.

"Mum" with Lesley Manville is great

also from a few years ago, Roger and Val Have Just Got In, with Dawn French and Alfred Molina - such a lovely series!

Love this thread!

I also enjoyed the UK version of Mistresses. Cold Feet. Yes Prime Minister is hilarious still.
