I hate this. Why is it not working for me?

I assumed he was going to pay to fix the urine pipe and dilapidated building as he kept focussing on them.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 18:02

Me too. Sadly not. I think maybe they aren't allowed to fund capital spending.

LeafCutterAnt · 30/08/2019 18:21

Shame

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2019 18:36

He did pay to fix return to learn? There was a photo of it at the end of the show as a building site.

Agree that building a tech hub is all well and good, but who is going to staff it? Can’t get comp sci teachers for love nor money. It would definitely have to be a long term partnership, otherwise as soon as the mice broke the computers would be useless.

LeafCutterAnt · 30/08/2019 18:39

I saw the building work in the RTL centre, then rewound it to see if he said he was going to pay for repairs of it but didn't hear him say that, only about the new tech hub. It's possible I missed it again as I get distracted by my phone!

SabineSchmetterling · 30/08/2019 18:42

I thought it was quite clever of him to fund the tech hub. I think he’d sussed that something that could be a USP to help them to recruit more students was a good investment for an undersubscribed school. More students=more funding in the longer run.
I’m assuming that this tech hub is a more significant investment than the amounts that we’ve seen in previous episodes (that sort of equipment is expensive and refitting a room for it isn’t cheap either).
I watched the first few episodes and really wasn’t sure about the formula of the show but this guy was much better in my and the kids he chose to help seemed deserving. I also quite liked the HT.

LeafCutterAnt · 30/08/2019 18:42

I assumed the LA was paying for repairs, perhaps encouraged by the building problems being on camera

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2019 18:45

Maybe the RTL was the new tech hub?

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2019 19:11

Just looked again, he said ‘One last thing, I want to give you some money to make a physical difference to RTL so that kids like Levi and Yuri can go there and learn’.

He seems to have spent way more money than the other secret teachers. I wonder if they’ll all watch the series then think ‘crap, I didn’t build a tech block’.

LeafCutterAnt · 30/08/2019 19:21

Oh dear. Even when I rewind specifically to check something I still get distracted by mumsnet and missed it Blush

noblegiraffe · 30/08/2019 19:26

I was paying really close attention first time around because I was thinking ‘surely he’s not going to just leave the piss pipe??’

I thought my school was in bad condition (thanks Gove for cancelling BSF) but bloody hell that one was awful.

The school opening down the road stealing their pupils was annoying. With a critical shortage of secondary places coming up, why are they opening schools in areas that don’t need them?

LeafCutterAnt · 30/08/2019 19:36

Yes, I wonder if there's a corresponding girls' school who lost a similar amount of pupils. Pointless.
There's probably no money for schools as the government are too busy squandering it on damaging the country with Brexit.

purpleme12 · 03/09/2019 22:55

Yes this was the best one. I liked him and he seemed genuine. And the headteacher seemed the best out of all of them as well.
I liked how he invested in the pupils but in what they were interested in rather than what he saw or in his business. And I liked how he said to one boy that if he wanted he can come with with him (I mean I liked how he said if he wanted and didn't just assume)
And giving them the holiday! I felt a bit emotional at this one and I didn't at the others
