Watching I am Kirsty now.

cushioncovers · 31/07/2019 10:58

Ash I'm thinking the same

JustDanceAddict · 31/07/2019 11:03

Ashtray - was thinking the same w £500 she paid bills totalling over £300, bought a new sofa, tv and food/toys. No way!
If it was £1000 then I could’ve believed it. Then the money would’ve racked up more etc.

Xyzzzzz · 01/08/2019 12:13

Just watching I am Kirsty and I’m also wondering why hasn’t she tried a food bank or a supermarket which would be cheaper than a corner shop?

BabloHoney · 01/08/2019 12:16

Are these available on Demand anywhere? I can't find them!

schoolcook · 01/08/2019 12:38

They should be on All4.
That's where I found I am Nicola.

cushioncovers · 01/08/2019 13:05

They are on all4 not demand or catch up.

BabloHoney · 01/08/2019 14:57

Aha! Thanks @schoolcook and @cushioncovers looking forward to watching!

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross - I know I'm so late to this, but saw it and had to comment.

The other bloke was just as bad as Adam with his house rules and "no negativity" and was equally at fault for the row that broke out.

But they weren't his house rules! That was the point! The couple had a perfectly unremarkable (twee as fuck if you ask me, but people like them) board of 'inspirational' sayings. And the boyfriend started pretending they were the 'house rules' that the other bloke had to live by.

When the other couple didn't rise to the bait and just pointed out it was a gift they'd been given, he tried another tactic.

I do think some of the reason some people are wondering where the coercive control was, was that it was quite subtly done and if you didn't watch carefully, it was so easy to miss a bit and fall in with what the boyfriend was saying.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/08/2019 22:22

And the boyfriend started pretending they were the 'house rules' that the other bloke had to live by.

But the other bloke started berating Adam for his negative comments and saying that in their household they didn't allow such negative things to be said. That didn't come from Adam at all.

I'm not saying Adam was perfect, far from it, and I acknowledged that some of what he did was unacceptable, but it was a poor portrayal of coercive control, imho.

SarahAndQuack · 09/08/2019 08:13

Yeah, but that was afterwards wasn't it?

I mean, I get that the other bloke seemed a bit up himself, and that was probably my least favourite bit.

But I really thought it made sense. IME of coercive control, people who do it are very good at planting little seeds of ideas in others, so they can then exploit those.

So if you say to someone 'ooh, look at these rules she makes you keep!' you're primed to think 'oi, wait a minute, I don't like you swearing in my house ... I'll say that's a rule here'. Because you've just heard the word 'rule' so you sort of pick it up.

I'm not sure I am explaining that very well, but the way it worked resonated with me. It's not just one person who gets controlled - it's an effect that spreads over all the interactions their partner is involved in.

Lardlizard · 09/08/2019 22:30

She seemed like an idiot aswell though ?!

spiderlight · 15/08/2019 15:09

I watched all three of these yesterday evening. My God, 'I am Kirsty' was bleak. That horrible, terrifying man - the way he switched was just so scary.

Shortfeet · 21/08/2019 00:18

Just caught up with this.
Always late to the party.

I thought the acting was incredible.

But the story/ characterisations were pants.

Both as bad as each other.

So glad no one got hit , though.
