Given Michael's complete u-turn I think there has been some instruction from the producers. I also think the same has happened with Maura.

Totally agree with a PP who suggested the show has their favourites to stay who have probably been picked from the start and asked if they are open to a bit of guidance/direction to keep them in longer.
