I thought I'd start a thread for discussing series 3 episode one of The Handmaid's Tale to be shown on Channel 4 at 9pm on 9th June 2019.

Please NO SPOILERS for those who have already watched it.

I wonder if what we are seeing with Gillead is just like anywhere else- if someone in power protects you, you can get away with more. So I am betting Lawrence asked for June.

Bloodybridget · 11/06/2019 11:33

Joyful it's a mystery! Will try watching again.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 11/06/2019 11:50

So I am betting Lawrence asked for June.

Yes. That combined with the McKenzies forgiving her? Although Mrs McKenzie's statement about them both knowing that if June carried on this would end with her dying at Hannah's feet showed that forgiveness would only go so far.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 11/06/2019 12:21

I missed the last 5 minutes as my son chose that moment to be sick (selfish much Wink) did I miss anything of significance? I saw her at Lawrence's house but nothing after that. I had presumed he'd been picked up by the eyes at McKenzies house!

EBearhug · 11/06/2019 13:10

All you missed was Lawrence saying, "I presume we'll have no trouble?" and June saying, "no, Sir," then end credits. Can't remember what the closing music was.

Andylion · 11/06/2019 15:33

I thought everyone would get the first two episodes. We got them, both on the Canadian streaming site, Crave, and the cable channel Bravo. On Crave, the second episode wasn't available until a few minutes after the first one ended. Is it possible you guys have just missed seeing that it is available?

TashaYar · 11/06/2019 15:38

Andylion the people on this thread are watching it on Channel 4, as discussed on the previous thread.

TashaYar · 11/06/2019 15:39

Bloodybridget all that stuff you refer to happened in the first episode, sounds like you watched a different episode by mistake.

Andylion · 11/06/2019 15:44

June having her feet whipped and cleaning a floor , stuff about Cdr Lawrence's wife - we didn't see her at all, Emily arriving at the hospital, female doctors, applause; none of that.

I just checked out the first episode. Emily is applauded by everyone at the hospital at the 39 minute mark.

Andylion · 11/06/2019 15:45

Tasha, so you only got the first episode?

EmpressLesbianInChair · 11/06/2019 15:46

Andylion, please don’t say ANYTHING about the second episode!

When we were discussing the last series, some pest came on the thread to say “I won’t tell you what happens but.... OMG EPISODE 6!!!!!” And thus took most of the shock value out of the new Red Centre being blown up...

So nothing at all. Not even whether you liked it. Please.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/06/2019 16:07

Hello! Can I join? Grin
So glad I found this thread! I missed the first episode but I'm now all caught up. Plus I'm on the app so I've scrolled back to your chat on Sunday evening so I can see what everyone's thoughts are so I'll be back soon!

Bloody fantastic episode though!

Andylion · 11/06/2019 16:16

Andylion, please don’t say ANYTHING about the second episode!

I promise I won't say anything else, but my post above was actually quoting from another poster so it seems that there is some confusion. It appears that other others have also seen episode 2.

Maybe someone in the UK can start another thread about episode 2. And I do think it's strange and unfair that other countries got two episodes and channel 4 has only shown one.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/06/2019 16:26

Back!

Yes I also sobbed when they made it over the border! And anyone else noticed that their uniforms made the border patrol chaps look just like Guardians?

When June was standing with Hannah/Agnes' 'mum' that was so bittersweet for a moment but you knew it was a fragile one too. "I'm her mom"!

Commander Josh Grin

When Luke got the photo Sad

I've been watching Kim's Convenience so I'm having a hard time seeing Pastor Nina as Rita again!

That ominous, whiny music they use at times too, very unsettling!

CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!

AnotherEmma · 11/06/2019 17:17

Andylion
"It appears that other others have also seen episode 2."
I think you are the only person on this thread who's watched episode 2.
The rest of us are in the UK watching on C4.
There was a PP who is confused and seems to have forgotten or missed half of the events in episode 1 Grin But I suggest that PP just watches it again 😜

TashaYar · 11/06/2019 17:28

Andylion the thread title clearly says “Channel 4”. Channel 4 has only shown one episode so far, so no-one on this thread has seen episode 2.

Myusernameismud · 11/06/2019 17:43

Anyone else wonder why Emily didn't say 'your wife saved my life, oh and this is her baby'? Do you think he just assumes that's Emily's baby? Is Emily just reluctant to hand her over to anyone just yet?
I was just waiting for the bittersweet moment where he realised that's June's baby and how lovely that is, but also how terrible it is as well.

littledinosaurs · 11/06/2019 17:51

@Myusernameismud I think that will come re Nicole - I really hope he and Moira take her in.

Although on a separate note I think she should still be called Holly not Nicole. Really don't see why Serena's name even gets a look in tbh!!

Andylion · 11/06/2019 17:56

I think you are the only person on this thread who's watched episode 2.

Yep. Got it. Smile

CurbsideProphet · 11/06/2019 18:04

There's always one poster who ignores the thread title and bounds in to tell everyone that they've streamed half the series already. I mean, how much clearer could the thread title be? Hmm

MotherOfSoupDragons · 11/06/2019 18:43

June wants her to be called Nicole in honour of her father. That's more important than Serena's choice (which was a nod to her father anyway).

AnotherEmma · 11/06/2019 19:12

In honour of her father?! I doubt Serena gives a shit about honouring Nick. I think she picked the name because she likes it. And June asked Emily to call her Nicole out of respect for Serena and the role she played in letting her go.

Wasn't there a scene between June and Nick after she was born, when June told him the name she'd chosen and he nodded? Am I remembering that right?

Myusernameismud · 11/06/2019 19:13

Omg did not even twig the Nick/Nicole link. I'm blaming Prednisolone brain fog. I also blamed my ugly crying when Emily was found on pred too, it has its uses.

AnotherEmma · 11/06/2019 19:13

Holly is way too close to Hannah anyway
