It's here.

Eight seasons of love, hate, family, battles, history, mystery, myth and legend.

After laying waste to Kings' Landing, what next for Daenerys? Does destiny feel good when you kill thousands of innocents to reach it?

I will really miss these characters and their stories. Epic, must-watch television is rare. Will we ever see its like again?

And now our watch is ended.

So Bran just fucking sat there knowing he was going to be king and let everyone kill each other.

Sorry, but he could have just told them: never mind all that, I'll be king and you better just accept it.
He was king because they all killed/would end up killing eachother.

Loopytiles · 20/05/2019 07:46

That would’ve hurt Lweji! lucky for Jon he didn’t want the Throne.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 20/05/2019 07:49

Sansa was sort of right. The North saved Westeros at huge sacrifice to themselves and have earned the ultimately prize. However, given the climate situation, I hope the next monarch doesn’t live to regret that independence in the depths of the next winter when they’re no longer part of a united kingdom with the South which still has harvests, but merely a trading partner. Does the North have exports?

TakenForSlanted · 20/05/2019 07:49

Maybe around season 1, episode 3? Imagine the SFX budget that abridged plot would have freed up ... Grin

I didn't feel Arya becoming an explorer was particularly in character. I suspect spin off series there.

I am not sure it is quite fair for House Stark to get both a independent North and their candidate as high king of the (6) kingdoms. But hey if they are happy.

I really wanted Brienne to write a penultimate line in the story of Jamie Lannister that he fathered a child with Brienne of Tarth (and to write her own page too).

Loved Jon walking north with the wildlings & Ghost.

Don't like that Ghost seems to be of such variable size. As a direwolf he should be not much smaller than a horse. Sometimes they can be arsed to do the CGI. Other times they just have him ordinary wolf size.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 07:52

It was supposed to be "couldn't".
Not sure what happened there.

TheLastNigel · 20/05/2019 07:52

During the episode I was annoyed that Bran got the throne-just because he's got the charisma of a wet mop and he's obviously a bit weird....but that said it makes sense-he doesn't give a monkeys about wealth or power so ideal really-also he's all seeing and all that...

on reflection I think I'm happy.

Tyrion-got a job he'll ultimately enjoy and be good at.and to make jokes for all time-fine.

Sam-got to be Meister-good.

Brienne-got some sort of role and is a knight-good. Lovely when she was writing Jaimie's entry.

Ser Pod-good. Loved how pleased he looked.

Greyworm-gone on vacay to narth-fine-though he built his part up a bit at the end there and for the first time got on my nerves a bit.

Bronn-got his castle and a role he will like-good.

Drogon-great acting from him-presumably fine going forwards floating about the East-and did the only sensible thing in melting the chair-in fact he gets the gold star throughout for consistent good decision making.

Ser Davos-got navy-good

Gendry-ignored as per usual-but fine I assume, as lord of whatever.

Random dudes from Dorne-wtf? But whatever.

Uncle whatshisname-quite funny when told to sit down but where did he spring from? And was that the Blackfish there as well? Where the chuff has be been all this time?

Arya-off on adventures-was always going to be her end-good

Sansa-well deserved queen of the north and what she wanted-big tick.

Yara-nice to see ya'.

Tormund-happy to wander the North and reunited with his mate-good for him.

Ghost-biiiiig tick. A pat for the very good boy.

Jon-at first I thought hard done by-and what will he actually do in the North? But then he's always been quite dull hasn't he? He didnt want to be king-he's rubbish with women-he's not interested in Much it seems-let him go and live the simple life with his Dog-fair enough but it did seem a tad harsh. No reason why he can't go and visit winterfell once in a while I suppose-uncle Benjen was always nipping back and forth.

Dany-couldn't be happier and cheered when Jon offed her. I've always loathed her so I'm cheery about her demise! Felt a bit of a non event almost when it happened but then I suppose it would.a shame not to see the immediate reaction to it all from everyone else however.

I would have liked a little suspense at the end-a bit of undead stirring in the north or something to keep us guessing forever but I can live with it.
Over all it was alright. Some bits could Have been done better but then I couldn't write a decent script or direct anything so who am I to criticise
Smile

Thankyou for these threads-they've been as enjoyable as the show.
And now my watch is ended...

AllGoodDogs · 20/05/2019 07:56

I got up at 5.30 to watch, avoided this thread until now. I thought it was a fitting end. I took it as Jon leaving the wall for good, taking supplies and the wildlings off to start a new life in the North now the NK isn't there to threaten them all. Pretty perfect ending for him. Sansa and Ayra got what they always wanted. Bran was never a favourite, and I wouldn't want a favourite on the (now melted) throne.

I would have liked a snippet of drogon somewhere though.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 07:56

I hope the next monarch doesn’t live to regret that independence in the depths of the next winter when they’re no longer part of a united kingdom with the South which still has harvests, but merely a trading partner. Does the North have exports?

Two things to consider. Firstly, GRRM has hinted that the end of magic/the Others will mean the end of out of whack seasons. That should solve the ‘decades long winter’ issue.

As a sensible ruler, Sansa would arrange a suitable marriage outside the North to secure an alliance with another region. The ideal candidate would be a son of House Royce.

Ledehe · 20/05/2019 07:58

Why would people trust someone to be their ruler who knows the future but sits there expressionless and lets people burn to death.

Danys death was not GOT like at all. It was romanticized. Jon killing her I can accept fully. But it was so obvious it was going to happen, dagger in the heart was so cliche.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 08:02

It's almost a shame we didn't see the scene where Jon strolls out is says "what's up guys, fyi, just killed Dany, Drogon has melted the throne and fucked off with the queens body. Shawarma anyone?"

🤣🤣

Why did Drogon not kill Jon I wonder?

Random thought but what army does Bran have to protect the peeps of Westeros & surely there isn’t a lot of non burned peeps left?

CodenameVillanelle · 20/05/2019 08:05

Well the only people who were burned were the poor people of kings landing and the lannister armies. All those other lords still have people and armies.

SweetSummerchild · 20/05/2019 08:10

Why did Drogon not kill Jon I wonder?

My guess is that Drogon ‘recognised’ Jon as being a dragon lord. The telepathic connection between dragons and riders hasn’t been explored in the show but it’s a very un-subtle hint that it was there.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 08:10

So will they just give him an army? Doesn’t a king always have to have guards?
In reality wouldn’t a threat we don’t know about (maybe from west of westeros) be swooping in taking advantage of the instability & the lack of army in KL’s?

Jb291 · 20/05/2019 08:11

Hated it. Queen Smug and King Potato. What a pile of shit

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 08:13

SweetSummerchild I defo saw nods to that but was unsure if that would override his anger re Dany. Or maybe he just knew she was dead & didn’t suspect John was the culprit.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 08:13

Gendry-ignored as per usual-but fine I assume, as lord of whatever.

I held my breath when Arya said she wasn't going back to Winterfell, and then a sigh of relief. Grin

One thing I really liked was that when the wildlings headed out from Castle Black there were a few blades of new grass poling through the snow.

Cheesy but nice.

Lweji · 20/05/2019 08:15

Yes, they even had a "moment" before Jon went in.

fancynancyclancy · 20/05/2019 08:20

Oh & what did they do with the Dothraki? Just told them to get on a boat & sail home?

HigaDequasLuoff · 20/05/2019 08:26

Yes I liked the grass. A dream of spring is alleged to be the title of the last (never to be written unless done by a fanboy after GRRM dies) book. But I thought the erratic winters were due to weird planetary orbits on that world rather than magic.

I think dragons can sense emotions and recognised that Jon was genuinely grieving Danny so Drogon sensed that. If D had been killed by anyone else they would have been toast.

Figgygal · 20/05/2019 08:33

I thought bran only saw the past and the present not the future hence why he didn't know where he was going to end up

So basically Jon snows parentage means nothing and him dying seems to have meant nothing.

TheLastNigel · 20/05/2019 08:38

Drogon definitely recognised Jon having done the right thing hence he didn't kill him. He loved his Mother but recognised with his dragony intelligence that she had gone the full crazy. Jon and Drogon has a few moments there-im loving Drogons work actually-if anything he's the real hero of the piece.

Even when there are 6 kingdoms eventually someone somewhere will want more than they have and will attack someone else to get it-that's just human nature. That's why they need armies, navies and forts I'd guess. To police the kingdoms...
