So, now we battle for King's Landing and the Throne.

The penultimate episode of this most epic of tales. Can Cersei survive? Will Euron catch on and wonder how Tyrion could have known of the pregnancy? Will Arya and the Hound beat Jaime in the race south?

As ever, no leaks or spoilers please until we watch the episode live together. Our Watch begins....

I'm annoyed at cerci's death. After all the pain she has caused people, she went out as queen, as a victim, probably remembered as such. It's like all the shitstorms she has caused will be forgotten. But to balance that, Dany is the exact opposite. No one will remember the good she did, or the mercy she showed. She'll always be the mad queen now.

LyndaLaHughes · 14/05/2019 08:01

When Greyworm and Dany were together and she gave him Missandei's only possession she bought with her- I wasn't sure what it was- and he then threw it into the fire was that significant?

AngeloMysterioso · 14/05/2019 08:03

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL GOING ON ABOUT THE SODDING VALONQAR WHEN IT HAS BEVER ONCE BEEN MENTIONED IN THE TV SERIES AngryAngryAngry

Getting really bored of reading “maybe XXXX is Azor Ahai/the Valonqar” who fucking cares?!

JasperRising · 14/05/2019 08:03

Biancadelrioisback that is a good point. I found myself feeling sorry for Cersei and having go remind myself she blew up the sept and has bee. Downright cruel. I have found it a strength of GoT that you can have complex feelings about the good and the bad people. That said I think both Cersei and Dany have both gone too far into unforgivable.

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 08:11

I wasn't sure what it was- and he then threw it into the fire was that significant?
It was her slave collar, so yes significant.

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL GOING ON ABOUT THE SODDING VALONQAR
I know 😂 I think it's just because people have theorised it to death so that when it doesn't happen they feel they've been betrayed somehow. It's not just that, but GRRM has said that his prophecy's are like a double edged sword and not to be taken literally, or everything really would be predictable. Even if it had been in the show her death is still fitting, having been lead there by Jaime/set up by Tyrion. They are riddles not statements of fact. But I suspect they knew all along Jaime wouldn't kill her since they deliberately left that prophecy out the show.

GooodMythicalMorning · 14/05/2019 08:30

Dh and I were commenting on how much Arya looks like Ned right now, didnt notice Jon did. Will have to rewatch!

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL GOING ON ABOUT THE SODDING VALONQAR

For exactly the same reason that they are still going on about how wonderful Dany is and all the ‘foreshadowing’ about her having Kit Harrington’s baby this season.

People don’t like to let go of wrong ideas.

How many scientists have committed suicide over the years when their long-held theories have been disproved?

It’s human nature.

The fallout from this episode was ALWAYS going to happen - whether it had been 8 seasons or 2000. There was always going to be a single ‘snapping point’ for Dany.

In 10 years time people are going to look back on this TV series and laugh their arses off at the ridiculous overreaction to a beloved TV hero turning out to be a villain.

fancynancyclancy · 14/05/2019 08:34

I wasn’t sure if GW was in on the rampage or just overcome by anger. When he looked at Jon I wasn’t sure if it was a look of “I’m doing this with or without you, don’t judge” or “Dany can’t trust you”.

ElenadeClermont · 14/05/2019 08:45

Absolutely Jon looked like Ned. Arya was meant to look like Lyanna I think. The only true Stark-looking children.

Giggorata · 14/05/2019 08:47

I'm worried that Tyrion is in for a flaming now.... she already threatened him before she went on her firestorm rampage, and if one of the Unsullied tell her about letting Jaime go.... 🔥

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 08:50

I'm worried that Tyrion is in for a flaming now.
How can he not be huh Sad unless he avoids the shit out of Dani till the end I can't see how he's going to survive. Dani said one more mistake and it would be his last. I understand completely why he did it, but I was so angry at him. All I wanted was for Tyrion and Arya to survive 😭

fancynancyclancy · 14/05/2019 08:51

When jon & co were facing off against the Kingsguard Dany landed close by. They surrendered then which I assumed Dany saw. The message of ring the bells takes a while to reach the bells (lack of mobiles).

I couldn’t decide if Dany was always going to light it up & was just catching her breath or she just was overcome by grief, anger etc in the moment

Cottonwoolmouth · 14/05/2019 08:54

I think GW could have went for Jon if Jon hasn’t started fighting with another solder.

Sides were taken and Jons on the wrong side now.

I’d be surprised if the Starks are not no.1 public enemy to Danny now. Can’t see how she could let Tyrion and Jon near her after this. She knows what their reaction would be.

Maybe is Danny’s green eyes Ayria going to close?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 08:58

I’m not sure it matters, Jon and Tyrion can’t continue their support for Dany after that. She’s beyond redemption. They’ll have to find a way to get rid of her (oh hai Arya Wink)

I’m in awe at how little next week’s trailer gives away. There’s virtually nothing there to go on.

millythepink · 14/05/2019 08:58

Before the battle, when Tyrion begged Dany to spare the city if the bells rang, she exchanges a long look with Greyworm, before finally nodding agreement. I think she had already agreed with GW that there would be a slaughter, regardless. That's why she was tearful when she heard the bells because she felt she had no other choice than to burn the city. She believes that fear is her only option.

If Jon had given her a good seeing to before the battle, she would have been all post coital and loved up and would have forgiven the city. Stupid Jon.

Cottonwoolmouth · 14/05/2019 09:00

I think it was an on the spot decision. Once she let rip with the dragon the grief and anger overwhelmed her, to her the bells were too late/ not enough.

Queen of the ashes.

agirlhasnonameX · 14/05/2019 09:05

Yes I think on the spot too. She heard the bells and realised her anger and grief where too great to find mercy and that she needed revenge. Emilia agrees 😂

SweetSummerchild · 14/05/2019 09:10

I think Dany suffered from a sudden attack of furious rage.

All these thousands of people were living in a city built by her ancestors and were seemingly unwilling to rise up against her enemy as the people of Meereen had done (as she said earlier in the episode).

Despite all she had given up, all she had lost, all she had done for them, they would never love her.

From 100ft up on a dragon, it’s quite hard to see people as individuals - they are just one huge mass of betrayal.

GhostIsAGoodBoi · 14/05/2019 09:11

Would people be calling Dany a Mad Queen if she was a man or would they be like “Yeah dude burn all the peasants make them fear you”?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 09:12

Well they called her father the mad king for less so, yeah.

Prequelle · 14/05/2019 09:14

I don't think that going through the city party should have been Aryas role. D&D specifically said they chose her to do it because everyone likes her. But it seems a bit Arya show at the moment. It would have been more effective with The Onion Knight. He was brought up there, he is traumatised from Shereen burning so the kid burning would have had a bigger impact. I just think it would have been better with him.

And what was with that woman and kid who had more screen time then ghost?

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 09:19

The thing about Dany turning like that is that it feels credible. I have some sympathy for her (despite causing the end of thousands of innocent people Grin)

Now it would have been even better if the show had given it more time to mature and (dare I say it) Emilia was a slightly stronger actress. But still, that’s the beauty of this show, even the villains are sympathetic.

GhostIsAGoodBoi · 14/05/2019 09:21

@Laurie He did way more than Dany. He spent years torturing people in ever more creative ways. She’s furious but she’s not insane.

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 09:24

He never burnt the city down. Her death toll totally dwarves his and hers are mostly innocent victims.

I agree he was more creative though.

LaurieMarlow · 14/05/2019 09:25

That’s kinda the whole point, isn’t it. He was going to do what she did, but with wildfire. Jaime stopped him.
