Hail survivors of The Battle of Winterfell.

The 'mysterious' episode 4 premieres tonight.

Who will be with us at 2am?

I am desperate to find out if Arya's kill is openly discussed and acknowledged, or does Bran take the credit, or does it remain a mystery.

Given Emilia Clarke has said Episode 5 is the one for which we will need 'bigger television screens' what will lead up to it?

Probably way off, but

Could arya sneak in and release elaria sand, we didn't see her die, just left in dungeon, whilst arya does that, the hound takes down the mountain, elaria goes after cersei, and arya sneaks away and comes back as the night king with his face, we know he kind of blew up, but again no body seen, as night king she can zombify, so maybe bring back Dragon as doubt dany would have left him in water so we don't know where he is and she's riding him. Put tyrion on iron throne, he's hilarious, be a great ruler,

Aurignacian · 06/05/2019 23:38

That was the best episode yet I think.

But hated the Bronn scene, seemed ridiculous

InglouriousBasterd · 06/05/2019 23:49

I took the passing of Ghost to Tormund as Jon acknowledging that he’s no longer a Stark child. I’m also thankful that this means I’m less likely to weep over a dire wolf death Grin

I wondered if the wildlings would stay away from the south - on Insta earlier the Mountain posted a pic with Tormund at the premiere saying ‘nice to finally meet you’. Suggests the characters never cross paths.

TakenforSlanted ”So, you've spent, like, 7+ seasons building up to the apocalypse, which happened and was over in a second? Now let's get back to petty political squabbles that will be meaningless in a few hundred years' time?”

Hasn’t that been the theme all along though? I think now that this is the point GRRM has been trying to make in the books; no matter how great the historic catastrophe or tragedy and how many times they get a chance to start over and do it better, humans seem never to learn how unimportant their petty machinations and jostling for power really are in the universal scheme of things.

I was tricked into believing that the fantasy/magical elements involving the White Walkers and defeating them were the point and I’ve spent years railing at the characters in books and show to wake the fuck up before it was too late. But now I’m convinced it was a clever double bluff. The supernatural forces were just a sideshow, a distraction, and, as each magical element has been stripped away - NK gone, Melisandre and her resurrectionist power gone, 2 dragons gone one to go, direwolves gone or effectively sidelined - we finally see what it was really all about. It’s the same old same old, the grubby reality of everyday humans being humans and doomed to repeat the same follies again and again.

Probably off by miles, but that’s what it’s feeling like to me right now.

Euron looks like Pacey from Dawnsons Creek to me

OkPedro · 07/05/2019 01:09

speckofstardust That’s exactly how I see it! It’s the human interactions, the relationships and the power struggles. I wasn’t disappointed in the least at how “the long night” played out. I’m more interested in Dany potentially becoming the mad queen, Cersei getting or not getting her comeuppance. What happens to Sansa, Arya and Jon. I’ve loved all the characters, that’s what has made GOT for me. I don’t read the far fetched theories anymore. If nothing comes of the story behind the NK and bran it won’t bother me

NunoGoncalves · 07/05/2019 02:48

It’s odd that they didn’t armour the dragons before knowing they lost one to a spear previously

I think that's what's going to happen next week. On the Ep 5 preview they showed them setting up the scorpions, Euron gazing into the sky, then the roar of the dragon but didn't actually show the dragon... Why not?

My bet is it's going to swoop out of the sky and Euron is going to be all "oh shit" when he sees it suited up in full armour.

tabulahrasa · 07/05/2019 03:33

I don’t think Rhaegal is dead...

We don’t see him actually die, Daenerys says... you saw my child fall from the sky, not that he’s dead and Euron is too sure he’s definitely dead because he saw him hit the water...

I mean, it might just be me hoping he’s not, lol, but, I think it’s a misdirection. That’s hes injured, but alive and will suddenly appear during a battle.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 07/05/2019 03:45

I hope you're right and Rhaegal is alive... But then even so he would be in no fit state to fly or do anything much really would he?

DeadWife · 07/05/2019 05:20

Not just you tabulah, was hoping that was Rhaegal that we could hear but not see when Euron was looking at the sky in the clip; somehow miraculously recovered. What perfect revenge that would be.

The Bronn scene was weird and incongruous definitely. He's usually likeable but I suppose it's in keeping with his character being a mercenary sell-sword.

Re. Last post I think we'll have to agree that some like to skip to the end of a book and welcome spoilers and some don't (?).

tokyosong · 07/05/2019 05:34

I liked tormund calling the whitewalkers "icy fucks".

I also really like Jaime and Brienne and think they have way more chemistry than Jon and dany. Jaime going back to kill Cersei makes sense, surely he's not hoping he can win back someone who wants him dead!

I thought Tyrion was doing quite well with pleading with Cersei until he mentioned her being pregnant, so does that mean she's actually not pregnant? In fact he was a bit annoying in this episode, how can he guarantee high garden?! Also he was mean to brienne and his locker room talk with Jaime...puke.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 07/05/2019 05:55

I'm surprised Sansa would go spilling secrets to Lannnisters. It didn't work out well for her the last time. Wonder if she'll get Jon beheaded too?

IceniSky · 07/05/2019 06:13

I think they cut Ghost's scenes from episode 3. I don't think we will see him again.

I think Dany will do what see means to do but it doesnt end how she expected. I think the wheel will break but with all the main contenders for the throne dying or the South being wiped out with wild fire. And then I think Tormund and his crew live in peace building his north back up and Sansa builds her North back up.

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/05/2019 06:43

I didn’t think the Bronn scene was pointless; I think he explained the whole point of everything. His speech about the wealthy having just been the best cut throats - kill hundreds and they’ll make you a lord, thousands and they’ll make you a king - all the conversations everyone is having about who has the claim to the throne and Bronn broke it down to what it really is: the strongest and most murderous win. I think it was Jaime’s prompt to go after Cersei as he realised how worthless the Lannister name is and how he didn’t want ruthless tyranny to win out but he wants to put that narrative right.

AfterLaughter · 07/05/2019 07:20

I cannot stand Sansa. Every season age pissed me off more and more. Nothings ever good enough for her. Tyrion hit it bang on the head with what he said to her. She dislikes Dany because she’s beautiful and more powerful than Sansa could ever be. She’s petty as fuck and to betray Jon’s privacy the way she has is unbelievable.

IhateBoswell · 07/05/2019 07:50

Euron looks like Pacey from Dawnsons Creek to me

Thank you fancy! Been bugging me!

M15sterPip · 07/05/2019 08:04

Arya has to kill Cersei, not Jaime. She's on her list.

What if the Jaime conversation with Brisbane was misdirection on the part of the writers? He (Jaime) can see Dany heading the same way as Cersei and doesn't want the same scenario all over again with Jon being Dany's lackey as he was Cersei's. The conversation with Bronn made him see that.

So my prediction is, Sansa and Brienne rock up with Tolmund's crew and save the battle at the last minute, Dany is killed by Jamie, Cersei is killed by Arya, Tyrion (also someone who doesn't want to rule, so fulfilling Varys' edict that the ruler needs to be someone humble enough to not want it) sits on the iron throne and Jon rules the north,

M15sterPip · 07/05/2019 08:04

Brisbane? Smile Brienne!

PreseaCombatir · 07/05/2019 08:06

She’s petty as fuck and to betray Jon’s privacy the way she has is unbelievable

Ah, i completely disagree
I think Dany is completely mental at this point.
She grew up thinking Viserys would be king, so all this ‘all my life’ is just bullshit, Sansa finds out that after all the threats and the show and the burning, that’s she’s not even the heir. Her brother/cousin is.
So if you were her, with the ultimate aim of an independent North, would wou back a bad tyrant who has tendencies to ‘burn them all’ or would you back your northerner relative? There’s no contest.

PreseaCombatir · 07/05/2019 08:06

*mad tyrant

PreseaCombatir · 07/05/2019 08:09

I’ll be well pissed off if Viserion is alive. They already made it look like he does during the battle, so if they do it again I won’t be happy

merrymouse · 07/05/2019 08:11

Bronn only explains how people gain power.

The problem that Tyrion and Varys are trying to solve is what happens next - how do you hold onto power?

The only reason they are considering Jon as a King is that they believe the people will regard him as their King - Romance of the 'rightful heir' story, male - regardless of what he wants or whether he would be good at the job. (His lack of tyrannical tendencies are also a bonus).

Cersei's grip on power is fairly tenuous - what is gained by force must be maintained by force. Cersei relies on Qyburn/wildfire and Dany relies on her dragon(s). Take them away and they don't have much.

M15sterPip · 07/05/2019 08:14

There are a lot of parallels between Dany and Cersei.

QueenOfTheAndals · 07/05/2019 08:18

Who has Cersei even got on her side these days? She blew up most of the King's Landing nobility 2 seasons ago. There's Qyburn, Euron and the (undead) Mountain. Her grip on power is very tenuous and if Euron dies it becomes even more so.

KnitFastDieWarm · 07/05/2019 08:18

Euron looks like Pacey from Dawnsons Creek to me

He bloody does as well! Grin I knew he reminded me of someone...as well as annoying the crap out of me every time he appears on screen
