We have some lovely occasional posters who have lived in Korea, are Korean or have Korean partners/family members who pop in from time to time to provide the context for some of the more baffling cultural references.

We are generally fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, film and kpop when the mood takes us. To get to grips with the lingo, try dramaloveaddicts.proboards.com/thread/24/korean-word-day?page=1

We have a few frequently used acronyms:
FL/2FL = female lead/2nd female lead
ML/2ML = male lead/2nd male lead
SLS = Second Lead Syndrome (where the FL/MLis too thick to realise how much better the 2ML/2FL is)

We also abbreviate titles if they’re long, but usually only after using the full title & acronym together. Some of the regular favourite actors have been abbreviated too for speed/efficiency, although “him off Black” seems to have stuck for Song Seung-Heon. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clues if we’re not making sense or have descended into acronym soup.

re the Mandarin Cantonese thing I just checked what language Meteor Garden is in & it's also Mandarin, which I found harsh after listening to kdrama, so interesting that you say the sounds are different. A while ago Bea you posted about the hopping vampire film ( Mr Vampire was it?) & I've just googled and that was in Cantonese so that might be fun to hunt down online.

I know! I hope they realise we're sitting through this crap for them!.....Best thing so far has been the 13yr old singer... The rest have just escaped from a 1980s variety show! 😳😱

I wonder how many armys are in the audience and is the atmosphere noticeably more excited because of BTS?...

There was a lot of squealing when Ant said BTS I think there may be some Armys in the audience!

Currently catching up on Absolute Boyfriend whilst the HPL subbers do their thing. I find the scary doll woman’s casual sadism so appalling, I had to pause and MN for a breather. (Teapot scene 😞)

I thought they were great but the staging & direction was pants! Even DH who has no idea who they are thought they were good.

I mostly watch Japanese anime TBH, but I've just stumbled upon Witch: The Subversion and it's really good so far (I've only watched half).

Also, watched part of the Chinese Mulan movie, but never finished it.

Is there other more serious series out there as I'm not sure I have the patience for all the drama .

Welcome Cheshire! There are some really good, weighty dramas in amongst the fluff. What kind of stuff do you like? Thrillers? Historical? Crime? Can you tolerate a bit of supernatural or kook in the mix? Also, which services do you currently have?

Boatyard well done! I saw the rocketman thread & immediately thought of HH KJW in Antique but was too shy !

I have Netflix and can track down pretty much anything else shifty eyes.

I really like supernatural, but more Tokyo Ghoul than My little pony and I'll honestly try any genre as long as it doesn't fall into the telenovelas extreme.

I'm very impressed people are learning Korean, I really struggle with tonal languages, so Jp fine, Korean and Chinese not so much. Though the K alphabet is fantastically easy to learn and the history around it is really interesting.
