Is it weird that Hilton isn't on the list, given his end?

Motherbrownskneesup · 23/04/2019 22:18

Who's Jed Herrings?

SinkGirl · 23/04/2019 22:19

Leeds I thought the same. I am sure that Ted and Powell know each other and know more than they’re saying, and I’m pretty convinced Lisa is a UCO. I did think that Ted may have been communicating with her via the same system, or monitoring the other exchanges (hence copying the spelling mistake). Normally I would think that using a voice to text system like that, it must either be a woman or someone with a very recognisable voice.

With the gun being fired, I initially thought he maybe shot himself so he would die more quickly, but then I thought it was just an involuntary muscle spasm... not convinced on either though.

Was just thinking about what else H could be...

Hendon police college
lineofduty.fandom.com/wiki/Hendon_Police_College
Gates, Morton and Arnott all trained there apparently

Hillside Lane station - links to Dryden, Jeremy Cole and Denton
lineofduty.fandom.com/wiki/Hillside_Lane_Station

Dot says that H is the one who promoted him, which made people think of Hilton - but I don’t think Hilton did promote him, just encouraged him to take the inspector exam. Makes me wonder who promoted him to DS? I know Gates took a chance on him when he had a gambling problem (really? wasn’t getting enough cash and excitement from the criminal underworld?), but was he already a DS when he joined TO-20?

We know that the Edge Park golf course is a focal point for the OCG and Ted is staying in the Edge Park Hotel - aside from just being a geographical thing, is it possible the hotel and golf course are owned by the OCG?

I definitely need to stop pondering these things. Still, if I come up with enough theories, one has to be partially right at some point 😂

longwayoff · 23/04/2019 22:45

For anyone suffering LOD withdrawals till Sunday, who isn't?, I recommend Between the Lines, a 1992 tv series about a police anti corruption unit. Neil Pearson and lots of younger versions of people you will recognise. Not on Netflix or Prime but is on YouTube and holds up well considering its age. Just watched an episode about people smuggling. Topical for Jed. Its not bad at all.

CraicMammy · 23/04/2019 22:45

Anna Maxwell Martin is presumably behind Operation Peartree, an external force’s investigation into an OCG on Ted’s patch...

AMM was a senior police officer in Alpha Papa...

Ted lives in a Travel Tavern...

H is ...... Alan Partridge?!

SinkGirl · 23/04/2019 23:06

If anyone hasn’t seen The Shield, I can fully recommend it. Not as twisty as LoD and definitely more gritty and violent, but it’s an amazing look at police corruption and the repercussions of that. It’s definitely my favourite series of all time. Sometimes it’s on Netflix, and of course it’s quite old now, but my god it’s still amazing. I feel jealous of anyone who hasn’t seen it and gets to see it all for the first time!

SinkGirl · 23/04/2019 23:08

Aha, indeed. A Partridge in a Pear Tree. I am definitely on board for that twist.

CraicMammy · 23/04/2019 23:38

Thanks for The Shield recommendation, I’m going to need something to fill the gap after LOD ends, and also (and I think I’m going to miss it just as much) Shrine of Duty!

BitOfFun · 24/04/2019 00:25

Ah, I enjoyed The Shield too. I don't think I saw the entire run though- I may look it up again.

Preggosaurus9 · 24/04/2019 01:32

I feel like there's not enough characters in this season. Corbett killed off so who's going to drive the plot now?! There must be someone waiting in the wings..

SinkGirl · 24/04/2019 01:51

I think the rest of the season will revolve around the investigation/interrogation of Ted, and / or the truth about Lisa McQueen.

BitOfFun if you never finished it then you definitely need to look it up. The last couple of series in particular are jaw dropping, but it’s all just following the consequences of what the characters have done, so things get more and more tense and shocking until the end. Bloody brilliant.

Wolfcubisthefemalenominal · 24/04/2019 04:36

Radio times suggests two new characters are about to come into this series

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/04/2019 05:34

Another recommendation to fill the LOD gap is the 2003 TV series State Of Play (not to be confused with the more recent US film version). Really clever script, gripping, superb cast etc.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 24/04/2019 05:38

There's something I keep forgetting to post but which strikes me every time I settle down to watch - the musical score to LOD is absolutely phenomenal. Those urgent slightly menacing violins ... really ramp up the tension.

StoorieHoose · 24/04/2019 06:10

the Shield is one of my all time favourites and does lend itself to be a good binge watch. I watched the wire after loads of people said it was like the Shield but the Shield is far superior

SinkGirl · 24/04/2019 07:23

I don’t know why people compare the two, apart from both being American police dramas with an long run from the same era.

I must admit I enjoyed The Wire far more the second time round. It is a lot more ambitious and some parts of it are amazing.

The Shield is like a Greek tragedy though - a bunch of amoral characters do some awful things and then every single action they take has a consequence, and it’s always bad. Watching the net closing in as they try to get out from under it is incredible stuff. I wish I could see it again for the first time.

Anyway, I’ll stop banging on!

I agree the score is very good- although I’ve been watching all of GoT again over the last few months which has probably the best TV score I’ve ever heard, so it’s probably suffering slightly in comparison.

I remember watching at least some of State Of Play, can’t remember if I saw the end, will see if I can get hold of it.

Just watching end of S3 - apart from to give him an escape, why are there AFOs outside the interview room when Dot is being interviewed? That’s not normal procedure is it?

NoWordForFluffy · 24/04/2019 07:25

Every time they're building up to something and the music starts to get ominous in the background, I always say to DH that something is afoot! I love the score. They did the same in The Bodyguard too.

LizzieMacQueen · 24/04/2019 07:58

@Motherbrownskneesup

Jed Herrings is just a play on red herrings ie clues that lead nowhere. Jed because the writers name is Jed Mecurio.

SinkGirl · 24/04/2019 08:04

Okay, something else I’m sure has already been discussed! When Dot gets shot, Kate rushes over to him and he is whispering to Kate. Then she gets her phone out and he’s whispering into it, and she says “say it”. The only thing you can make out is “Fairbank” and Kate is nodding and recording as the camera pulls away.

When we see the video of Dot’s DD it’s shot by someone else, filming them both while the paramedics are there, so a bit later.

What did he say to Kate? What did she manage to record on her phone? Has she known the truth since then? I wouldn’t be surprised if that comes back later - I’ve been trying to think of things that we’ve seen but forgotten about and this seems like a big one.

MrsChollySawcutt · 24/04/2019 10:07

Another recommendation of LOD withdrawal syndrome is the earlier Jed Mercurio series Bodies which is now available on BBC iPlayer. Be waned it's a bit gruesome in places, being about a firm of Obs/Gynae surgeons involved in a serious incident and then a cover-up...

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/04/2019 10:22

Have just ordered two AC12 mugs, one for me and one for my mate who I’m away to move 600 miles away from, meaning I’ve literally nobody left IRL I can speak to about LoD!

Some people get matching necklaces....not us

DinaCaliente · 24/04/2019 12:25

Wasn't there a scene in an early episode when Lise was in her car and missed a phone call then the next scene was Ted ending a call?

Someone on Twitter said the Chicken Licken reference ws deliberate.

Steve had been running round saying that Ted was H (the sky was falling down) and nobody believed him then Chicken Licken gets eaten by the fox and Steve gets killed.

SinkGirl · 24/04/2019 12:42

Yes, I thought they picked Chicken Licken deliberately as well!

That did happen in episode 1 or 2, but unclear if it was actually Ted calling or another misdirection

I just looked - unfortunately The Shield is not currently available on Netflix or for free on Prime but it’s not expensive to buy on Prime and the first episode is only 10p (whole first season is £4.99). Id definitely recommend watching the whole first episode, I suspect a lot of you will want to carry on after that 😂

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/04/2019 16:00

Yes I thought Chicken Licken was deliberate.
However in some parts of the world Chicken Licken or Chicken Little (as it's sometimes called) the chicken survives.
